What’s been hampering me is the fact that I’m a trumpet player for my school’s symphonic band and play tuba in Jazz band which only happens once a week.

My band teacher always said to imagine there’s a big size tootsie roll in between your Moellers. So idk if that helps but yeah

Have you made a video on how to slur better? Because I cannot slur without making a growling sound. Any exercises I could do?

NOOOOOO BAD BAD BADDDDDDD! Don't drop the jaw.

why arent you supposed to
@ldxstormeaglex2194

@@mizu0340 Because you can't get back into the high range if you do. If you drop your jaw you will get stuck in that range basically. There are ways to open up the oral cavity without having to destabilize your embouchure. You can certainly get away with it. If you take a breath before you go into the high range that gives you time to reposition, but that won't always be possible.

@@ldxstormeaglex2194 yeah dropping the jaw is correct and shouldnt change as you transition to the high range, if you change your embouchure going into the high range it'll make it sound pinchy. The best way to get high range is to focus on blowing fast and focused air and it's faster than you think. If you speed the air up as you go higher in passages (or lower as well) then you will have a better tone on the high and low range. Dropping the jaw shouldn't destabilize your embouchure anyway

@@mizu0340 If your jaw position functions over the entire range of your horn (and doesn't drop when moving ranges) then there is no problem there at all. The problem with jaw drop is that many players use it as a crutch to get into the low range. Dropping the jaw in this way makes it so your low range embouchure is functionally different from your mid/high range embouchure. This is the destabilizing part. Generally the jaw spacing that works in the high/mid range is what you want to use in the low range. The idea is to get your teeth as close together as possible while still permitting a good sound. That's the more stable setup. A single embouchure that works over the entire range of the instrument with minimal movement is the best. Jaw dropping is a destructive movement.
