Learn a melody by ear, as soon as you get it right change key. Go round all twelve keys. Your fingers will start to think for themselves. A tune is a real clear focus.

My first piano teacher was a great, but she never told me about breath-body awareness while playing piano. I only heard about "musical breathing" between motives or phrases. So obvious, but I'd never really thought about these things. Thank you!

To come into your body and allow your subconscious to direct your practice goals and to avoid rushing..... Metronome Meditation, set the click at say 6bpm 4/4. Breath out after the accented click count 'one' internally, pause and wait for the next click, breath in, count 'two' . Try to get to 65, that should coincide with a strong click, congratulate yourself heartily if you make it ! Afterwards, as you address your instrument, 'admit' what it is that you would most benefit from beginning your practice session with that day. Do not have a computer running distracting software or images or magazine style advice which is designed to keep you confused and unfocused and hungry for more.
