The most succinct description of the player archetypes I've seen is; Timmy likes playing exciting/fun cards, Jonny likes playing weird/interesting cards, Spike likes playing good/strong cards.

I'm enjoying hearing Erics perspective on the new cards. Whilst I'm a Spike myself too much of online discussion spaces are a bunch of Spikes all viewing cards through only the Spike lens.

the big thing here is that these cards really help people who are in a class where they're a bit behind the curve. a 5 fist guardian doesn't need Wolf Mask: a 4 fist guardian really deeply appreciates it. Same for Mystics, a 4-head mystic is going to love Cat Mask way more than a 5 head mystic that is already Good Enough.

I love the idea of Fine Tuning on Charlie Kane. Take a Lab Assistant (science asset) and put Fine Tuning on it. Now Charlie can exhaust the Lab Assistant for ? and book, then Fine Tune the lab assistant to unexhaust, and exhaust the Lab Assistant again for ? and book. (Also works for Medical Student.) Overpowered? No. Hilarious and pretty good? Yes.

Obviously I haven't played the masks extensively, but I tend to agree with Justin about the masks. They are good for sure. They pull their weight, but they never felt broken to me. I've only played Cat, Wolf, and Mouse.

Patrice discarding Persistence with Cornered and then committing it to the test from the discard pile anyway.

Transmog would givea clue when attaching: From the faq about "if": Some abilities have triggering conditions that use the words "at" or "if" instead of specifying "when" or "after," such as "at the end of the round," or "if the Ghoul Priest is defeated." These abilities trigger in between any "when..." abilities and any "after..." abilities with the same triggering condition. To be clear "when" interrupts the game and "after" happens at the very end of everything else.

About the masks i also think they should be alternate skills for the class but only because they are masks. They should theme into you disguising as someone else. That said, allowing all classes to do anything is not a good thing. Maybe if it was just flat uses and they discard.

You don't really want to design cards that "shore up" a colors weakness. Good game design wants the different colors to have different strengths and weaknesses, let all colors do everything or being able to solve there color problems within the color just means you make tier 0 cards that need to go into every deck. Yes X Role already can answer its weakness, letting all roles do that just makes the issue worse it doesn't solve anything.

This could be a wrong opinion, but I am seeing the masks as deck space. If I run Wolf Mask I don't need Overpower and Manual Dex and I save two deck slots. I'm just excited to play more fun cards instead of having to include all the basic skills.

Ehhhh. Yes and no. Overpower and Manual Dex both let you draw a card and they cost you 0 actions to play. Wolf Mask: 1 resource, 1 action to play. Overpower: 0 resources, 0 actions, draw a card. I'm not saying one is better than the other, only that I don't think the idea of it replacing Overpower/Manual Dex is necessarily accurate.

@@tcr7 The fact that you had to draw overpower in the first place means the draw it gives you is just net neutral on card draw. The mask stays around forever so you basically have an overpower whenever you want/need it (the other card you drew that is in your hand that isn't overpower is basically the draw overpower would have given you.) The action is a big thing though. You don't always have time to waste on dropping another play action.

I really like that perspective actually. Like really, really like it. If your deck is focused on 1 of the 5 things they do, you wouldn't need to include your standard, double-icon skills like you do in most decks. Granted, you gotta get your mask out early somehow to fully take advantage of it

@@dozensofdonuts8695 Yeah I think that is the biggest swing. Early mask >> Late mask. But they are items so a lot of search effects find them.

@@EyesOnTheTreeline The point is that it is +1 card over a mask. That is important. Having the card draw to get to your best cards is important and the cantrip skills help with that. I'm not saying the masks won't be worth it. But we are effectively looking at 3 actions for a mask vs playing a cantrip. 1. Action to play the mask 2. 1 resource to play the mask 3. Mask does not draw you a card I still think a mask is worth it, but the idea of a mask replacing overpower seems a bit short-sighted to me. There are real costs (and benefits!) to the masks.

I'll absolutely be taking Versatile on Kymani to get Wolf Mask. I think it's worth increasing the deck size by 5 just to include 1 of these. That's how you know a card is powerful: when you are willing to increase the deck size just to put one of a card into your deck.

That's not how you know a card is powerful, that's how you know how much people overhype cards. That definitely is not worth a versatile in kymani

@@DrDifra Kymani is not a flex; Kymani is a primary fighter. It's otherwise difficult to increase their fist and the Wolf Mask does that in a beautiful way.

I realized Long Shot makes less sense to me than I thought it did. If I understand correctly, it doesn't innately let you attack an enemy at an adjacent location? But that line of text allows it to interact with Marksmanship?

You can only commit it to a fight or evade test due to it having 0 icons but saying you can in the text. That test may be your own (since you are performing the test in your own location) or an allies. If it is an allies fight or evade test, they may be either with you in your location or in an adjacent location. When committed, they/you get no extra boost to the test, but they/you do one more damage from the attack or evade. If it's an evade, this typically means you just did 1 damage. If it's an attack, it simply means +1 damage. Well, not exactly +1 damage. It's a separate instance of 1 damage. But that will rarely come into play. You can safely just say +1 damage.

Correct, it doesn't let you attack an enemy, there has to be a fight test going on at an adjacent location already and then you can add it to that test. Most easily, this is going to be because another player is fighting at an adjacent location.

Yeah, the masks seem ok in general. I ran mouse with ||Jack and it was fine. I don't think I'd have kept it except for getting to play it for free most times. A lot of classes don't care about win harder. Shotgun, clue getting Runic Axe, and some of the new cards. I'm most excited for how they can juice under performers like Sister Mary.
