Good question! It's most likely a nickname, we pronounce it very similar to English, just with the German "E", sounding more like "Lay-on"

Greatest franchise on earth, I was still in E town when. The club ran for it in '06. I was 21, it was such a ride. Now I'm 39, I had the privilege to take my 3 sons to all 4 games in Vancouver as you drove the Canucks under the ice. Do it for us, do it for Edmonton, and most importantly, do it for yourselves! You've earned this!!

I've been a fan since a very small boy, 1984 1 of my first memories was watching everyone freak out at the TV, I knew the word hockey, it was a game, and Oilers made everyone happy, Today, Still no other team could ever replace my beloved Oilers, We here in Edmonton are cheering you on, we cheer you on like we work, We give it all we got! There is nothing like hockey night in downtown eddy during the season. Watching with everyone else at the bars, or at the moss pit, then celebrating on Jasper Ave or Whyte. I moved a few years back but boy do I miss it 🥺 Oilers are such a special team and their fans are too.
