This is the army that inspired me to start building and playing 40k. I was so disappointed when I learnt that I couldn't buy that defiler model haha. It has now inspired me to make my own converted CSM army though, I love the story aspect behind it. Awesome work!

Give Tau Nick my best wishes! I just started building my own army and I can say that it was at least 20% of his love for the Tau that I started building mine! I look forward to the next time we see him battle and I want him to know I am rooting for him. For the Greater Good! Seeing this army again though was a real treat and I loved every little detail on them!

That chaos army is a great reminder of just how brilliant the scope of 40k lore allows for so much creative freedom. It’s a big galaxy half thrown into darkness with no interplanetary contact so just about any backstory you can come up with for your army could fit into the canon if it follows the rules. So great that you can tell most of that story just by looking at your army. Well done!

I come back to this army so often. This is the most impressive army I am aware exists. The conversion, the feeling of it, the bubble domes…the lady marines aspect is just icing on the “they are your models make them yours” cake. I really love this army. Every time I do a conversion I think of it.

Do it. I did with Khorne with Beastmen heads. It looks amazing and easily makes the unit a centerpiece.

I think Deamonettes as marines would be cool, but i think their heads on a marine body would look abit strange and disproportionate. I think you’d have to make custom armour suitable for a deamonette frame, which is admittedly a lot more work but might look better. Just my thoughts

Good idea. I have an Emperor's Children army. For my Noise Marines, I used ammo crates from a WW2 set, filed them down, and turned them into sound speakers, with which I replaced the heads with.

I have to say this original game was one of the first I seen as I have just started getting into this game! Had that “challenge accepted” moment with all the inspiration you guys have done with these armies and love that you guys have began to showcase not only the games but the set ups of the terrain along with videos like these! Amazing story, amazing hobby skill on display. The HZD vibes came through really well on that Defiler. I am really digging the Tau as well, with that incredible battle damage. Plus, having the pilots outside of their battle suits is a really nice touch, and kind of "humanizes" those units a bit more.

Well they technically did, and didn't. The warp is weird. Sure the gods manifested in the physical realm at different times (most notably Slaanesh), but from what I gather they've always existed in the warp due to it's non-chronological flow of time

All the lore I've read in the rulebooks and Codexs says Khorne, Tzeentch and Nurgle were "created" during the War in Heaven and Slaanesh by the Aeldari. The phrase "since the beginning of time" implies they had no start point when they clearly did.

@@kevinjackson7169 There's a story wherein an Ork Warboss entered the warp with a Waagh, only to emerge minutes before he entered it, prompting him to attack his own army just so he could get a copy of his favourite gun. I know it feels like a weak counterpoint but fact is that time is indeed weird in the Immaterium, even though it was also described as far calmer in the days of the Necrontyr. The lore contradicts itself a bunch, probably due to the difficulties of having a time-chronological dimension exist parallel to a timey-wimey dimension and having it make sense.

I absolutely adore this army to death. Though I gotta ask the question - a lot of Chaos Nick's army here is of course out of the GW range. The dragon, the demon prince, those are creature cast. You wouldn't normally be able to play in a GW store or at a tournament because of those issues, right? Not that this takes away from how amazing this army is of course, I'm just thinking about like, limitations on where you can play with them because of how they are built.

I'm building a BA army. I love that my army has a story too (like you) the story is that this small force of BA has been fighting for so many years on a feral planet and they had lost all the communication with the chapter so the models in my army are dirty with a lot of weathering on them (the story is forced but I like it very much and painting them is really relaxing and fun) Edit: sorry for the English, I'm from a non-English country.

Do you have guides or tips on how to simulate these conversions? Specifically the Defiler and Obliterators, I've got a Death Guard army that I like to think represents the decay of metal and machinery more than flesh, and I've got out of my way to try to keep the Nurgly-ness to a more rusted tone. That Defiler and those Obliterators would fit like a glove with some tweaking and large amounts of green paint and oil paints!

The Obliterators are based on another conversion out there (Google "Zabdi Pattern Centurions"), otherwise as @uhlmann mentioned, I have some pre-painting pics on my Instagram. That sounds like an awesome idea, and yeah, oil or enamel paints are going to be for friend for a decayed metal look!

No, but I've only been to a handful of tournaments with this army. As long as they are appropriate size, represent the appropriate wargear/"intent" of the model (i.e.: a heldrake has wings), and you communicate with your opponents, I've never had an issue.

Some tournaments specify that you have to use GW models, but this would be in the tournament rules which you would receive ahead of time. The only real problem you might have with a conversion is if it drastically larger/ smaller than the model you are proxying or looks unrecognizably different. The only other area that might cause an issue is lore contradictions. Some people really like role-playing during their matches so if a conversion diverges from canon drastically (like an America-themed space marine chapter or male Sisters of Silence) then those players might not enjoy themselves as much. However, in most instances, people usually respond really well to a cool conversion, one tournament I went to even had a best-converted army prize which people voted for. The guy who won had an Imperial Guard Army that he had converted to look like a Chaos cult that was still trying to hide their corruption, it was really well done.

Gralevicz is most likely from polish origins as in my language (czech, neighbour to poland) it is kralevic and it´s like "noble" or "worthy to be a king". Superb army, I´ve been collecting CHSM for 20 years.

based on what nick said about ppl not knowing what the models always are representing, I Would love to see turntables of some.... no all of these models. and an overlay with the units name and what the GW ersion looks like on the left, while the turntalbe is spinning on the right. So much cool stuff !

I love how his defiler (whatever the big walky thing is) looks like a Watcher from Horizon: Zero Dawn. Aramin also looks spectacular with the revenant Dark Angels theme.
