The plate mod looks really nice. How are you mounting the CSL DD on without flipping the plate around though? Do you only use 2 bolts? How effective is the pivot-bracing mod? Doesn't seem to do much more than adding extra thickness? Great content!

Yup only 2 bolts (my friend also has the CSW 2.5 with only 2 bolts too). As long as they're done up tight it's completely fine. Pivot bracing mod took a lot of slack out of my rather aged playseat challenge, it was less noticeable on my friends newer one. The good thing with it's design is it can be re tightened if you ever notice slack coming in again.

@@PaultheSimRacer Yeah I guess the slight play in the chair might dampen the strain on the two bolts. Would remove my potential headache with it being too far forwards or backwards if I only need to worry about aligning two bolts. Do you have a exact measure of the m6 bolts you use for tightening the base? I read that the 20mm ones that come with the Playseat is too long. Will 15mm do or is it too long also? Thanks!

@@Nito-xf5yd I'm using the standard bolts that came with playseat challenge (as is my friend). Seems totally fine - I've used only 2 bolts for years with no issues. As you say, otherwise it all ends up too far forward / back. Note I never flipped the plate over, it's still the original direction - just pushed back to the furthest back setting and then the wheel bolted to the sensible spot (where the quick release just passes the front of the plate)

@@PaultheSimRacer I wonder if only two bolts would also be fine for a DD1... since it's all flat on a plate, one would think it doesn't really need the triangle shape bolt pattern (given also that I won't be running it at 100%). I want to do it just to avoid drilling, hope I don't end up snapping it off lol

Thanks for this video. I was really worried I made a bad mistake when I upgraded from a g27 on the floor and my wobbly desk. Now i upgraded to a logitech dd wheel and grabbed the logitech × playseat challenge. But as soon as had it installed, itwas horribly wobbly without even turning it on. I'm so thankful there's a solution.

Lowdown shifters makes a plate stiffening mod that is an absolute dream. High quality metal parts. This seems like it may wear and loosed over time due to the nature of 3d printed materials. But it does seem to work well in the video. Thanks for sharing mate!

bought the full set of enhancements after watching this video… this is a game changer that i did not know i needed. the added stiffness to the wheel and wheel based (i think mostly coming from the double cylinder additions to wheel base support). huge thanks !!

What does less flex actually mean for the detail you feel in the wheel?

@@desistyle3 everything is more stiff. A dumb example would be a none fully screwed chair, you can still sit on it and it works, but you feel that its a tiny bit shaky vs fully screwed, there is no other movement that your input. This is what was happening with my wheel base. Try to lightly shake your wheel base while siting in your playseat, you will see there is a little ''flex'' that makes it move, but for precise racing games those small delay or imperfection is impacting your overall accuracy. Thats what i meant by i did not know i needed it, because i did not know it was that big of a factor!

What's up man, ordered some of these parts after watching your video a couple weeks ago. Got everything mounted with my CSL DD, works as expected. Only got the wheel plate arms and the pedal tray reinforcement bracket, that alone made a huge difference. Thanks!

Fantastic. I ended up making an entire wooden floor for the pedals that goes under the seat. And I use a reversed clamp for the wheel plate. The reinforcement for the pivot seems like an absolute must... When I have spare money

If you guys are looking for something that braces your wheel plate in whatever position you want without losing any leg room I’d strongly suggest Lowdown Shifter’s brace. It’s a great piece, made of metal, it’s very quality made and it works. He also has a pedal chassis connector that works great. Customer service is awesome as well. I’m very tall so I need all the leg room I can. This sacrifices no leg room whatsoever. I’ve outfitted my rig with a whole bunch of his bits and I’m super impressed with it all. He’s working on that steering arm pivot brace right now. I can guarantee you it will not be 3d printed plastic. My two cents 👍

Have the same setup, but my doesnt flex as much. Good to see you could make it better anyway. I use mine with the Fanatec CSL DD wheel and pedals. (I am getting the loadcell soon, so I am a bit worried about the future :D

Hi there, awesome video. I have the tray support bracket and it's an great my csl dd. I didn't know about some of the other mods from them. I'm wondering if the csl pedal mods will fit the new csl pedals or are they just meant for the old ones.

Yup - the footage of it folded up at the start of the video actually shows the parts fitted to the rig. Still folds up fine.

Thanks for the video. I'm wondering now with these mods if I could get away with a Simucube 2 Pro wheelbase. Obviously I could turn the FFB down a little if it's too strong, but at 11 KG the wheelbase might be too heavy. Still very tempted.

I'd love to try one (or a DD1) ... I'll be honest, with the mods and the FFB turned down a bit - I think it'd definitely work on a playseat challenge. I'm going to do a video in the future about CSL DD on playseat - even before the mods it actually worked okay really. The back and forth movement isn't as bad / noticable when driving - but the mods have certainly just improved it that additional level.

Hi, this is Mark - I designed all the Indigo Lime parts that Paul bought for this review. I originally designed the braces for the wheel plate for a racer who uses a Fanatec DD1 - that is a similar weight (I can only find the packaged weight at 13kg) to the Simucube, and it worked well for him.

@@markbagnall8928 Thanks for that info. I think the unpacked weight of the DD1 is about 7.4kg, but that's still quite heavy. I expect the Simucube 2 Pro could still be usable with the mods. The lighter 17nm Simucube 2 Sport is also an option.

Quick question about how the playseat behaves under breaking. Do you notice any significant lift in the chair? I’ve seen this mentioned before but always thought it would depend on how much you push down on the break rather than push forward, if that makes sense?

Yes, with loadcell brakes. I started with a G920 and didn't have a significant problem with it. But when I upgraded to CSL Elite LC, the lifting became more problematic.

Most of our customers don’t have lifting. I have tested to see why. It depends on rig setup and how the driver brakes. I don’t have any lifting with T-LCMs but I can make it lift by pushing back with my shoulders when braking. If I just use my legs and don’t tense my body the force goes to the seat through my bum - no lifting.

What about putting a weight (like a pack of 6 bottles of water) on the part that connects the seat to the pedal tray in order to prevent the seat from lifting up under heavy braking? Do you think it could work?

I do that. I have a 45 lb barbell plate that I lay over the top of that joint and it helps enormously.

I have to install a fanatec Gt DD pro steering wheel on the Playseat Challenge and therefore I had to turn the support for the steering wheel front back. Is it possible to use the rinforcement for the wheel in this position? so I have to unscrew two bolts every time I put the chair away and screw everything back together when I use it?

Has anyone from Australia used these (or similar)? I’m tossing up between a Playseat Challenge and a. GT Lite. The Challenge looks better but the GT has a proper angled pedal mount and reinforcements to not lift with braking. Thanks for the video. To have all these mods sent to Australia from their eBay store is $300+. The challenge is already $400 here so that’s $700+ all up. Just seems like a lot 🤷🏻♂️

@@PradeepBharadhwaj7 hey mate, so I bought the challenge and put some loadcells on and immediately looked for mods. As you know it would have been around $300 to make it reasonably sturdy… so I actually sold it and bought the Playseat Trophy while it was on sale for $798. I could have had a modded Challenge for $600ish or the Trophy for $800. Trophy is miles ahead in terms of rigidity and can mount and handle many different pedal sets. It can handle direct drives and what not too and has many adjustments for pedal height and angles and is way more comfortable. I stopped folding the challenge up and was just sliding it to the side - which I can do with the Trophy as well as it’s really light and takes up the same foot print. It’s actually easier to slide to the side than the Challenge. If you have the space, I strongly advise to just get something more sturdy from the get go. You are already looking at mods so it’s something you will likely need. If you do need to fold it up though, the mods on a Challenge aren’t too bad. I was looking at the pedal tray and clips from Lowdown Shifter.

How does your front seat leg stay on the ground? Even with just 25kg of force with my sprints, mine just lifts off and unless I put some weight on it I don't see how that can be fixed.

Can you use this mod combined with the CSL DD? Because to mount the CSL DD you had to swap the plate around.

I just found out, yes you can use it with CSL DD, even if you use 3 screws and swapped the plate around.

Part of the reason why you had wobble to is because you had that expensive 15 lb direct drive wheel sitting on it it's not made for that.

@@PaultheSimRacer Thanks for the reply! Btw tip for you and people who wonder if playseat challenge is gonna have a revision. I've asked Playseat about their new chair - playseat trophy. It kinda looks like foldable, but the've told me it's not. But it can be detached into 2 parts which is not as convienent but should do the trick for some. As I am planning to switch to CSL DD next year, I was looking for foldable solution that can stand this. From what I see, I've just found it. This movie was very helpfull to me, thanks!

@@MiPDarnok Oh wow - I didn't even realise they were releasing that ... just watching a video now about it. Could be good if it splits into seperate sections you can store. My rig mostly stays out now so it's only on occasion I fold it away.

@@PaultheSimRacer Yeah exactly. It's more expensive than playseat challenge, but when I've added mods into calculation - prices become more comparable. I will wait for someone to test this new rig, hopefully they will address this topic. If it's not as cool as it seems, I will stick with challenge + mods

Anyone considering buying that stuff, do not. The bundle is like 130$, for that amount you can get a 3d printer and plastic needed, and print the stuff yourself, hardware might cost you an extra 10$. There are similar or even better designs online for free, except for the pedal hinges, but that one I might copy and upload for free at some point, since I have my own design, but this one seems a bit sleeker. P.S. Ender 3 printer goes new as low as 99$ but usually it's around 150$, so keep that in mind, also used ones are sometimes overpriced, cause they have some useless upgrades, so consider just getting a new one, newest ender 3v2 is about 200$, better looking, prints the same as an original, so get the cheapest you find, do not get anything used than a Creality, cause they usually suck or are 10 years old printers. And when you have your own printer you can print even more upgrades for playseat than there is on the video, for a cost of a plastic, it doesnt take that much electricity.

that's ridiculous. $200 chair + $100 reinforcement parts. just buy a gt omega rs6 no seat for $200 and a second hand seat for $50 i get that you don't have space but i think most people do lol

I found a very similar mod (to the wheel plate reinforcement) on Etsy Germany, the two differences are it costs only 22€ plus shipping (8.5€ to Italy) and it has knobs instead of screws to tighten it, so it is much handier... I think it is more effective than this one
