Wow Peter, this is just mesmerizing. That painting at the end was absolutely la pièce de résistance. I would just love even to have a copy of that to look at all the time, or very often anyway😁. The detail is superb. Thank you for these extras. They are most appreciated!

No Xuande dice bowl? thats a long standing favorite of mine from the Cleveland. Would you touch on the Salting bequest sometime?
@PeterCombs4 жыл бұрын
I' made a note on that, we'll do some digging around to see what we can put together. GEaorge Salting was one of the greatest art collectors in history across all cultures and periods who ever lived. Heres a list from the V& A regarding his gift. archive.org/stream/saltingcollectio00victuoft/saltingcollectio00victuoft_djvu.txt Best Peter

THANKYOU FOR A WONDERFUL TOUR OF CLEELAND MUSEUM OF ART.. WILL MOST LIKELY NEVER ET THERE AND THIS WAS MY BEST OPPORTUNITY TO SEE THESE WONDERFUL THINGS. WHAT WAS THE SOURCE OF WEALTH OF CLEVELAND, I WONDER. THEY ALSO HAD THE FINEST AMERICAN AMERICAN ORCHESTRA IN CLEVELAND. I HOPE IT DOESN´T END UP LIKE DETROIT.

I'm hopeful you will see this new comment cuz i just watched this amazing tour you hosted and I saw and heard several new things, which is why i love to revisit posted videos like this. And i was so wowed when you discussed the last item being the painted scroll AND THAT IT WAS A SEE THRU SILK!!! That was just stunning. Thx you again Peter for all these videos during the pandemic. Half the fun is watching your personal excitement as you share your passion with us all. Be safe!

As with the Egyptians and other old civilisations it is amazing how creative they 'used' to be when today they can only copy the past. You have to Wonder how so many peoples just stopped inventing and sort of gave up, did they decide consciously at one point that they had attained perfection and from then on could not do better? I know that in China they often referred back to the past and re made pieces even down to the stamps but they were on such a roll. Is it because they were only creative Under the domination of emperors and the fear of death? In Egypt there is a similar break when Under Pharaonic rule they made the most incredible works and today they can hardly put up cinder block buildings and seem to have little pride in their past.

IN LIFE, EVERYTHING IS BORN, FLOWERS, FADES , AND DIES. IT IS TRUE ABOUT EVERYTHING, BUT TODAY WE ARE LIVING IN THE ABSOLUTE MOST UGLY AND REPULSIVE ERA EVER. THE MUSIC, FOOD, ARCHITECTURE, FURNITURE, CLOTHING, PAINTING, MANNER OF TALKING, VULGAR HOLLYWOOD, ISRAELI ZIONIST VIOLENCE AGAINST CHILDREN, ETC.

RU WARE AT 59 MILLION DOLLARS A PIECE. I DON´T CARE HOW RARE IT IS. THE OBJECT DOESN´T HAVE MUCH BEAUTY AND THE DOLLAR PRICE IS ABSURD. IT IS JUST NOT AN EQUIVALENT CROSS VALUE.
