Orthotropics, founded by Dr. John Mew, is a branch of orthodontics focused on guiding natural facial growth for optimal function and aesthetics. "Mewing," a related technique, is also attributed to the Mew family.
This channel is part of the International Association of Facial Growth Guidance: orthotropics.com/
A non-profit organisation that aims to raise awareness of alternative orthodontic methods, with the ultimate aim of prevention. preventcrookedteeth.com/
About young influencers and celebrities having their teeth ground down to stumps and all risks involved. We see Katie Price a.k.a. Jordan posting photos of this on social media.
Please share this and make people think before having such damaging therapy.
PLEASE NOTE: THERE IS SOME CONFUSION AMONGST THE SOCIAL MEDIA INFLUENCERS AS TO WHAT CROWNS AND VENEERS ARE. PLEASE RESEARCH THIS WELL BEFORE MAKING ANY DECISIONS. ANY UNNECESSARY TOOTH GRINDING IS BAD AND SHOULD BE AVOIDED.
It is rare for me to recommend traditional orthodontics, however if there is only mild crowding (which is normally the case in these individuals) then a little expansion is far better than veneers or crowns on teeth. And if mild this is rarely retractive.
I strongly suggest braces on the upper jaw only, possibly with a little slimming of the teeth. Or possibly having "Thins", very thin veneers which only cover the teeth with no/minimal damage to them.
Ideally people should change their function and posture to match, or even have treatments such as hybrid orthotropics. However, this destruction is madness, people need their teeth.
If there are any other topics you want us to cover please let us know.

I have one crown and I hate it, everything about it. The feel of it, the colour.. I can’t even floss there as the dental floss goes right under the crown and sometimes I battle to get it out. Sometimes I would have been happier if I had the gap. It’s not right in the middle but on the top right and it was noticeable when I smiled but didn’t make me ugly. They’re not what they’re cracked up to be in my opinion. People who do this willingly are crazy!

My nephew was tripped by another student while playing basketball during recess and fell on his face, hitting concrete. His two front adult teeth broke off completely right at the gum line. I'd travel for MILES for a a true professional dentist !!! Even take a plane there. I once went 115 miles out of tow just to see what was going on with one of my wisdom teeth figuring the dentist must be good since it's an upscale city. He took xrays and couldn't find the reason it was hurting but he "would be happy to pull it for me.".....????? Okaaaay.....good bye. After much water flossing, brushing , and takin C with bioflavins, I relieved that swelling under that tooth. It may have been a piece of food under the gumline, and he couldn't even consider that possibility, because he'd rather pull it.

I’m a dental hygienist, I am asked every single day about having veneers purely for the aesthetics, most of these patients are young and have perfectly good, healthy teeth. They often don’t like my answer ( don’t be an idiot, avoid at all costs) but sadly there are a great many unethical dentists out there who need to fund their expensive lifestyles. Hopefully, newer guidelines and the suing culture that is more prevalent now may deter them, though if they get the patient to sign a disclaimer ( and the patients will because they’re not thinking ahead, just want instant gratification) they’re laughing. How many dentists do you see with veneers…… oh yeah, that’s right, none!

As a Dentist I can absolutely say prepping teeth as aggressively as in this video is malpractice. For a patient who wants a better smile the least aggressive and preferred aproach of most dentists is to straighten them with ortho and bleach afterwards. Also there are newer materials that in many cases will allow for "no prep" veneers where the veneers are super thin and the treatment doesn't involve removing tooth structure. There is a saying in dentistry...."Dentistry creates more dentistry." There is no substitute for intact enamel. Crowning all those teeth is going to create a "margin". The margin is where the tooth meets the porcelain; and with a crown now you have a 360 degree interface between the tooth and the porcelain that is significantly harder to clean and maintain. There are of course times when crowns are necessary. If decay has taken a significant portion of the tooth away, building the tooth back up and crowning it is a great option. The only thing I can recommend is to get several opinions before you let someone start grinding on your teeth solely for cosmetic purposes.

It’s not easy to find a dentist who isn’t part of a franchise chain anymore. I had the worst dental experience of my life at one of these. The dentist would not desist from trying to up sell me, after I repeatedly told her that I could not afford said procedure. I felt shamed, and was so grateful when our family dentist of 40 years briefly came out of retirement. Dentists are surgeons, and should not be allowed to operate in these unethical ways. I feel the same way about cosmetic surgery. I don’t want to prevent people from doing what they want to improve their appearance, but they should be protected from hard sell tactics, and cowboy operators.

So the filler can’t spread any further but I’m stuck with what feels like two bb’s in my lip. I only had a half a syringe too! These influencers are getting loads and loads of it. All over their face! My experience scared me from ever getting filler again. As much as I would love the easy solution, I’ve come to accept my lips for what they are. Dentists are making a killing right now, have been these last few years as veneers have become very popular. Sadly everyone wants to look the same, have no originality so they are all getting the same procedures done. Personally I find these veneers very fake and goofy looking. Not that simple. Some people have really f ed up teeth. Such as decay or just genetic deformities such as large gums, etc. Also teeth whitening is damaging. @@SourStrawberrys well, that's the point. Crowns and veneers were created for specific conditions and to be used only of necessary, the problem is that people are destroying their teeth for vanity and egocentrism when they have healthy teeth that can be fixed with braces
@SourStrawberrys
@SourStrawberrys 3 жыл бұрын
@@danielaacevedo1150 The point I was trying to make is even with cavities and genetic deformities you don't necessarily need veneers or crowns. Crowns and veneers are still a cosmetic procedure even if you are getting a root canal. Expecially veeners that only cover the front of the teeth. You can get a root canal and choose not get a crown. You just have to be careful not the crack the tooth that is now more vunerable. Because even after the root canal you have to shave the tooth down even further for the crown to fit. Why shave more off if you don't have to? Although you might not need these things for the tooth (veeners and crowns) it also might not be as simple as braces and teeth whitening to fix the astetics, either; other things can likely be done for that without damaging the tooth. I remember I had braces that damaged the enamel of my teeth and it looked horrible. The dentist fix this without giving me veeners. I think be did some type of fillings on the outer layers. One dentist told me he couldn't do anything about the stains; I felt let down like it got braces only for the my teeth to he horribly stained. Another dentist managed to fix it with no problem. Some dentist are more skilled than others and only want the best for your teeth. Some really don't care about a solution. Which is why you have dentist giving crowns to people in their 20's who don't need it just to collect money.

I’ve been a dentist for 25 years and counting. I am horrified. LITERALLY HORRIFIED! This is definitely malpractice as far as I’m concerned. This is what happens in an image obsessed world compounded by insecurity fueled by social media. Substance and integrity seem to have been thrown out the window with the younger generations. They are headed for a really bad wake up call as they get olden when the consequences are irreversible.

Since the dawn of manking people have been judged by the quality of their teeth. Good teeth show health and wealth and this is why many people absolutely dislike ugly teeth. Your smile can invite or reject other people and completely change their opinion about you. You do not need to be perfect but your teeth should at least be clean and healthy. A smile like a million dollar movie star is definetely not needed.

Truly awesome video! I hope everyone watches this! I’m now 54 and still have all my teeth except 2 that had to have crowns over 10 years ago…. At that time I asked about getting ALL my teeth done as crowns as I wanted perfect teeth but my dentist explained all this to me and how I will have all my teeth ground down and I said no way. Good thing because I’ve replaced these 2 crowns a couple of times since getting them and now have decided not to get new ones put in and to just live with 2 less teeth but that’s better than my whole mouth. What a nightmare it would have been now at 54! Don’t do it!

@@cosmicsprings8690 You seem to be lacking in self awareness. Your comment is both patronising and less accurate than the original poster's. Those with more self awareness are less likely to making up for lack of self esteem by pursuing these fashions believed to improve their appearance. It takes self awareness to realise that you will have a life beyond the more immediate future, (if you are lucky), and to consider the effects of current actions on your future life. These cosmetic procedures are not about self indulgence, as say eating a box of chocolates would be, but a desire to change their appearance motivated by deep feelings of inadequacy and insecurity, and an innate desire to belong with one's peers who are also doing it; a tribal/ clan instinct to belong, that all emotionally healthy people have. Having self awareness allows people to not blindly follow fashions as they understand their own motivations. Self awareness gives them perspective of being fully human, and therefore mortal, and having a future life to consider. I may be annoyingly pedantic, but I am authentic and not pretending to be something that I am not. A 'natural mystic' would have clarity of insight, and no need for egotistical patronising. Your lack of self awareness is ironic. You believe you meant well, but your fakery and assumed superiority based on nothing being directed at this young person I found cloying, unreasonable, uninformed, unhelpful, and ruffled my goat the wrong way. I recommend that you listen to people, including those younger than yourself, and consider what they say. You might learn something. Self awareness is how people become their most natural, authentic selves. Listening with all of one's being possible is how we can become wise. Self awareness seemed to be the key message for you, and for all your natural mysticism, you missed it.
