It's sad that this is a real reason to question if marriage is worth it at this point.

Catch me on the tail end because I would not pay her. Not a cent of spousal support. She has a career that pays well. Nope guess I know where I’ll be going.

So for a five year marriage, the judge refuses to put an end date on spousal support? Wth?

@@aixpert291 states will just start adding common law marriage to their books. The "family law" business is in so deep with the court system that they will rig the game if litigation revenue drops. It's going to get to a point where woman are going to be chasing men and men will be running away from them at full speed.

Ive never agreed with Spousal support. Child support sure, but you're an adult if you divorce then you pay for yourself. Just my 2 cents.

I understand the logic of spousal support, for men or women. If you are a stay at home spouse taking care of the home (doesn't matter if you are a husband or wife) and are married for X number of years, your employment history now has giant gaps, your applicable skills are not going to be viewed as up-to-date etc. What is reasonable for spousal support? Not sure, it's a hard question. I hate the idea of it, but at the same time I get what it's purpose was meant to be for.

@@frogbutts3628 the idea of alimony or spousal support predates the equality or feminist movement.. in fact it predates suffrage movement.. "The concept of spousal maintenance goes back to at least the 1600's, when separation was allowed, but not divorce. In the 1800's and up until about the 1960's, when a couple divorced, the courts assumed the man was unfaithful, unless proven otherwise." So yeah.. adults need to take care of themselves because that's equality

Sadly I'm in that position if my hubs and I ever divorced. I spent the last 12 yrs homeschooling our youngest and taking care of 3 of our parents during their last years and now my father on top of taking care of the homefront. However, I feel like if my husband decides he wants a divorce I better get my butt in gear and get a decent job knowing I will have to support myself after divorce. I could see support for maybe the duration of the divorce proceedings....never once the divorce is final@@frogbutts3628

Me neither and I swear I would not pay it. She’s a grown career woman. She lives in the house and he lives with someone. He pays the mortgage well she needs to move out if she can’t afford the house. Court system is never fair to most men.
