Some of the areas included in the 37-acre, diamond search field at Arkansas' Crater of Diamonds State Park are not even diamond bearing!!! In my opinion, they should be removed from the official, diamond search area. In addition, there are over FIVE ACRES (equal in size to 5 football fields!) of great, diamond-bearing, lamproite ore that are out of bounds to diamond searching.
In this video I also mention one of four trenches that were scooped out and fed into a state-of-the-art, diamond recovery plant from 1920 to 1925. I just made a short video that will show you photos of that old, trench map and explain about the commercial, diamond-recovery work that was done there 100 years ago at the site that is now an Arkansas state park.

Can you make us a map of your opinion of the best area's to search? I have searched every area in the park over my many visits. The most common area is the south as you first come in. Thanks

Sorry to bother you again, but I was checking out the map again and wondering is the best material in lamporite lava or lamporite ash?

That is a good question. I say it is good because I know the answer. Bad questions are the ones that baffle me. Ha! The lamproite lava came up too slowly and cooled too slowly. As it stayed hot longer, the diamonds completely resorbed out of it and turned to co2 gas (carbon dioxide)--they burned up. The lamproite ash tuff and breccia came to the surface at the park at an estimated mach II (twice the speed of sound), but no one can be certain of that because that was back before radar guns that state trooper were invented. That was so long ago that state troopers had not yet been invented! Those were the good old days....Now, back to a more serious geology lesson. This glowing red hot, liquid rock (lamproite) came to the surface from 100 or more miles deep. It hit the waters of a shallow sea at a high rate of speed. What once was a pipe shape tube of liquid magma became funnel shaped as it approached the surface and there was less overburden resistance. When it blew out, the extruded, liquid, lamproite magma went airborne in a steam explosion that occurred as soon as that liquid rock hit the water of that shallow sea. When we think of ash, we commonly think of burned wood. But this heat caused rock to burn!!! You need three elements for any fire: heat, fuel, and air. The magma was hot enough, the rock was the "fuel" for the fire, but nothing burned until it hit the air. As the liquid, lamproite rock was airborne, much of the rock burned. The rest cooled quickly. The diamonds were somewhat resorbed, but did not turn to carbon dioxide (co2 gas). Then, "What goes up must come down." The now cooled lamproite and diamonds and the ash from the burned lamproite all fell back to earth and filled the huge funnel that the volcanic eruption had created. It cooled into a solid, lamproite ash rock. The state park uses a disc to break up and turn this solid rock. The sun, wind and rain break it down into what looks like dirt that has diamonds scattered throughout. Now, that was the long answer to your question. The short answer is: There are 78 acres of lamproite at the 911-acre state park. Only 37 acres are open to the public for diamond searching because most of the other lamproite that is out of bounds does not contain any diamonds. Now, aren't you glad you asked? Ha!

I loved the answer. When I do anything I need all the information I can get not short answer that leads to more questions. So thanks again. My wife and I will be down March 25th 29th trying to make the best of it

@@304Plumbing Thank you for going back and watching my old videos. I bet you're talking about this video. I didn't know it's been 3 years already!!!! It will be 4 years in July. Time flies when you're having fun. 7,300 people have watched it so far: "Most fishermen will not reveal the location of their most productive spot to catch fish. Likewise, most diamond miners at The Crater won't tell you where they have found most of their diamonds. I WILL! If you will watch this video, I will even show you the spot and tell you why I like it. I have found 177 diamonds so far. Most of them were found in this area. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pN6bqcx7r9jPnYE.html
