Now recommends aspiration
The vaccine is to be injected only intramuscular (i.m.),
and in no case intradermal, subcutaneous, or intravenous.
In animal models, direct intravenous injection of an mRNA vaccine has led to Myopericarditis (both clinically and histopathologically).
Although inadvertent intravenous injections are rare during application of intramuscular vaccines,
aspiration of the needle is a sensible precaution when vaccinating against COVID-19 and can lead to increased safety.
Ferdinand, thank you
Denmark
en.ssi.dk/news/epi-news/2021/no-19-21---2021
Basically, we need to change the vaccine administration guidelines to include precautionary aspiration, prior to pushing in the vaccine. This will prevent cases of inadvertent intravascular administration of vaccine.
Here is some discussion to suggest inadvertent intravascular vaccine administration is a variable in the aetiology of complications after adenoviral vector vaccine administration and after mRNA vaccines.
These adverse events, although rare have reduced public confidence in covid vaccination, especially amongst the young, where vaccine rates are lowest.
It has long been known that intravenous injection of adenovirus leads to TTS in mice
ashpublications.org/blood/article/109/7/2832/125650/Adenovirus-induced-thrombocytopenia-the-role-of
Now, new covid vaccine specific work agrees with this previous work
Thrombocytopenia and splenic platelet directed immune responses after intravenous ChAdOx1 nCov-19 administration (29th June 2021)
www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2021.06.29.450356v1
The authors conclude, ‘Our work contributes to the understanding of TTS and highlights accidental intravenous injection as potential mechanism for post-vaccination TTS.’
‘We show that intravenous but not intramuscular injection of ChAdOx1 triggers platelet-adenovirus aggregate formation and platelet activation.’
‘Hence, safe intramuscular injection, with aspiration prior to injection, could be a potential preventive measure when administering adenovirus-based vaccines.’
Also after giving mRNA vaccines
A new study finds that giving mice intravenous mRNA vaccine also causes heart inflammation in mice.
Intravenous Injection of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) mRNA Vaccine Can Induce Acute Myopericarditis in Mouse Model (August 2021)
academic.oup.com/cid/advance-article/doi/10.1093/cid/ciab707/6353927
‘Our study indicates that IV injection of vaccines might partially contribute to this clinical phenotype, thus warranting a reconsideration of the practice of IM injection without aspiration, which carries the risk of inadvertent IV injection.’
Agreement from ‘fact check’ from Leo Nicolai, Cardiology Fellow, Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich:
(German Centre for Cardiovascular Research)
healthfeedback.org/claimreview/incorrect-vaccine-administration-is-a-potential-cause-of-post-vaccine-adverse-effects-but-more-research-is-still-needed-to-confirm-or-reject-this-hypothesis/?fbclid=IwAR0nBbM6v0V2WPFn4LxIdfR4FNAvIzLGKhzFPdQPG8mu_FR1InB8OzYQgMc
‘Indeed, there is peer-reviewed work showing in mice that possibly intravenous injection of mRNA vaccine leads to myocardial inflammation.’
‘that intravenous injection of adenoviral vector based vaccine (AZ1222, ChAdOx1) leads to thrombocytopenia and platelet-directed immune responses, offering a possible explanation for vaccine-induced thrombosis/thrombocytopenia’
‘these data might indicate a simple measure to lower the incidence of vaccine-induced side effects,’
‘There is a lack of data on frequency and effects of IV injection in humans.’
Denmark has changed their national guidelines
en.ssi.dk/news/epi-news/2021/no-19-21---2021
Based on a precautionary principle, we recommend aspiration before injection.

As a horse owner learning to give vaccinations, I was taught to give meds that were for intramuscular use only by first aspirating to make sure it didn’t go in a vein or artery! It is common sense for goodness sakes.

This gave me a new perspective about the decreasing quality of healthcare in the USA.

@SplayMnBoss Heavy metals include lead, mercery, cadmium, arsenic, copper and a few others, but none of the vaccines contain any of those substances. And its just false claiming that nanobots or luciferase is in the vaccine lmao. Even if luciferase was in it, it isn't toxic to humans. Lastly, the safety data sheet for sm102 that people are using to say it is causing harm is a 90% chloroform/10% sm102 solution with any harm related to the chloroform. Lipid nanoparticles are already within the body anyway and it is the carbon based nanoparticles that are associated with toxicity, not lipids found in the vaccine. Of the listed ingredients you claim, i'd say nanobots would be the most absurd and im not sure where you got this info, but unfortunately there are no nanobots in any of the vaccines.

Wow. I have a story. My son was born in 2002. When they were giving my wife the "walking epidural " I was watching holding my wife and helping, I watched the doctor insert the needle and start injecting. My wife instantly said she tasted metallic in her mouth and started to lose her site. The doctor stopped and drew back on the needle, and blood came into the needle. She said is wasn't a big deal. My wife ended up in intensive care for two weeks with a blood clot in the lungs. Everyone told me it wasn't related. Man this makes me mad.

Basic practice for me is to always aspirate before injection of local anesthetics. Muscle memory, just do it always. Bad practice IMHO from the doctor. However, IV local anesthetics do not cause blood clots in the lungs. IF she ended up sedentary prior to the blood clot due to symptoms of local anesthetic toxicity due to the IV injection, then there might be a connection. But by themselves, I do not recall, and to be sure I did a quick literary search, there being any connections to clotting events directly. If she was bedbound for a time before the clot due to toxicity effects, yes, otherwise as they said, unrelated. Still just bad practice to not aspirate always...

The first time I got a pre-prepared government statement which included the unbelievable statement that if blood was found upon aspirating, both the dose and syrynge would have to be discarded and this would be a waste of precious resources. !!!! I replied to this expressing my consternation that preventing serious harm to the patient was considered unnecessary and a waste, but didn't receive a reply. The study was designed to see any cardiovascular events 1 yr on from contracting Covid, Data was taken at the 30 d mark after contraction back in 03/2020 and followed up 12 months on, 01/2021 (looks like almost 12 months on?). "We show that, beyond the first 30 d after infection, individuals with COVID-19 are at increased risk of incident cardiovascular disease spanning several categories, including cerebrovascular disorders, dysrhythmias, ischemic and non-ischemic heart disease, pericarditis, myocarditis, heart failure and thromboembolic disease. These risks and burdens were evident even among individuals who were not hospitalized during the acute phase of the infection and increased in a graded fashion according to the care setting during the acute phase (non-hospitalized, hospitalized and admitted to intensive care). Our results provide evidence that the risk and 1-year burden of cardiovascular disease in survivors of acute COVID-19 are substantial. Care pathways of those surviving the acute episode of COVID-19 should include attention to cardiovascular health and disease." "Because some COVID-19 vaccines might be associated with a very rare risk of myocarditis or pericarditis, and to eliminate any putative contribution of potential vaccine exposure to the outcomes of myocarditis and pericarditis in this study, we conducted two analyses. First, we censored cohort participants at the time of receiving the first dose of any COVID-19 vaccine. Second, we adjusted for vaccination as a time-varying covariate. Both analyses were conducted versus both the contemporary and historical control groups. The results suggested that COVID-19 was associated with increased risk of myocarditis and pericarditis in both analyses." "This study has several limitations. The demographic composition of our cohort (majority White and male) might limit the generalizability of study findings. We used the electronic healthcare databases of the US Department of Veterans Affairs to conduct this study, and, although we used validated outcome definitions and took care to adjust the analyses for a large set of pre-defined and algorithmically selected variables, we cannot completely rule out misclassification bias and residual confounding. It is possible that some people might have had COVID-19 but were not tested for it; these people would have been enrolled in the control group and, if present in large numbers, might have biased the results toward the null. Our datasets do not include information on causes of death." Ref:Xie, Y., Xu, E., Bowe, B. et al. Long-term cardiovascular outcomes of COVID-19. Nat Med (2022). doi.org/10.1038/s41591-022-01689-3

@KoDaBro He is not saying there is a massive amount of blood vessels in the Deltoid to the point where we could start using that area from which to draw blood. He is saying the risk is present (appears to be 1 in 1,000 to 3,000) and occurs to people in rare cases that can be mitigated by simply aspirating. I am an RN trained at the University of Washington since 1994 and my father was an ER doctor and the Medical Director of the ER in my city for 30 years. Policies can be wrong and need to be changed. It happens all the time. Aspirating adds no risks but can reduce risks and takes seconds. Why anyone would resist this is beyond me. I for one, will never give an intramuscular injection without aspirating, as I was trained apparently when smarter heads prevailed. It is also a well known fact that about 3% of the population can have physiology that is different than the average person. (For example, in 3% of people, the major artery of the upper lip is on top of the muscle where in 97% of cadavers, the main artery is below the muscle much deeper in the lip.) This could also occur in the Deltoid and could account for some of the rare cases. All anyone is trying to do is keep people from getting hurt, no matter how rare when preventable.. The physicians first oath is to "Do no harm", and should be a nurses as well.

@KoDaBro He has compared all the studies. There is another doctor who has also been vaccinated on KZfaq that goes over the studies and it shows conclusively that there are segments of the population (males ages 16-40 for example) where the risk for Myocarditis is MUCH higher with vaccine than from getting Covid. I will provide a link to the other channel that goes over these studies

@KoDaBro I am going to respond .to just one post although I could respond to them all..too busy to live on KZfaq. 😅 Yes, I do know there are risks about the blood clots, heart issues etc post Covid, hence why I was referencing studies that show GREATER risks in certain categories of people and age groups for vaccine vs. Getting Covid. I am absolutely NOT anti vaccine. I stayed away from both of my parents for close to a year until they were both vaccinated because they were in a high risk category. Your perception of Dr. Campbell is interesting. The only studies I have see him reference have been peer reviewed. So, maybe we have seen different videos of his? I don't have enough time to get into the nitty gritty of all the other aspiration stuff....too much to explain. You do you. I know with 100% certainty aspiration is an important practice for safety and for your own safety I would recommend finding a provider that will do that for you. No one will be injecting a vaccine into my children or me without doing that. Call me crazy but I have been in the medical field for 28 years and am also a massage therapist. One could say I have more than a cursory knowledge of anatomy and physiology. Oh, and I am also a certified phlebotomist and an certified IV therapist. We only do blood draws from pretty superficial veins in the body. When you hit a deeper vessel in the muscle, you can blindly inject on accident into it, but you can't see it or feel it as when you perform phlebotomy. This is why we don't do blood draws on the Deltoid. It doesn't have extremely superficial vessels. The risk however, for injecting into a deeper vessel in still present, however rare it might be. Just because something is rare, does not mean we shouldn't take every precaution in preventing it. If it was you or a loved one that had had this happen to you, I venture to say you would be more willing to listen to people who know what they are talking about. And you most likely wouldn't think it rare enough to not take a simple precaution.

So glad to see you covering this. I was researching aspiration last week having seen someone mention it on Twitter in comments.I found a study that was done in 2016 or 17 if I remember correctly, so I brought up the PDF and read the report. It made absolute sense. But the argument was that the patients preferred the faster shot, as it was less painfull. When aspirating they suggest to keep the needle part withdrawn for a time period of 5-15 seconds, which was basis for another argument that with so many to vaccinate it would take up too much time. Horrifying to think, that the lack of a safety procedure which only takes 5-15 seconds to perform has caused so much heartache.

No one can be 100% sure that an IM needle won't puncture a vein or artery, but should be seen as "good practice" to aspirate (withdrawal) prior to injection to reduce any risks. Why this has not been picked up earlier is shocking. Great work Mr Campbell, your analyses and research is second to none, thank you for all your hard work over the last 2 years.

No, they don't vary to such extent in the deltoid region. A simple Google search can help you here. And no, is not shocking. When you board a flight nobody can assure you 100% your flight will not crash. Yet you do not hesitate. Of course if they'd invest in every plane the same amount they invested in the space shuttle the risk of crashing would be reduced 10 fold but you'd never fly again (unless you'd pay 100 times the current price).

I agree 100%. I was trained in the late 1970s to do IM injections. You cannot check for needle position unless you aspirate the syringe. Any IV drug user knows this procedure for confirming needle position within the vessel. At my first Pfizer vax in March 2020 the veteran RN administering my IM injection was flabbergasted when I explained the WHO protocol on Covid vaccination had omitted the aspiration step. Of course, she aspirated the syringe when she gave me the IM injection in Washington State, USA. No metallic taste on three, aspirated vaccinations. Love your work, Dr Campbell, from a retired Paramedic.

As a nursing graduate from 1961, I was instructed to ALWAYS aspirate. Also back then only a Dr. was allowed to inject into the Deltoid. We as nurses were only allowed to inject into the gluteus maximus. As well …taught to imaginary divide and inject into the upper right quadrant. Having watched Dr. Campbell by the time I got my booster…I inquired of the administering nurse about the practice of aspirating . She said the practice had been deemed unnecessary so was not done anymore but she had been taught the way I had. She also said there had been talk of going back to the aspirating step. 🇨🇦here.
@susan9188

Spot on. Imagine the damage that would be done if nurses gave IM injections anywhere in the gluts? There's a very large nerve that goes across the gluts that could paralyse a patient if a needle went in it, let alone large blood vessels. Thats why it has to be giving in the upper outer quadrant. As a retired RN I will start refusing vaccines if they don't stick to the tried and tested methods. It's outrageous!

Agree! When I (amfrom Sweden) did my assistant nurse education (1990) I got the privilege to do an i.m (only nurses did the i.m injections) into the gluteus of a patient, just as you described, and as Susan also explained why (the sciatic nerve...). I even had to loose the syringe from the needle for 10 to 20 seconds to make sure no blood would come out. This was the procedure back then, don't know if it is still in practice today (removing the syringe from the needle and/or aspirate)...

As a retired Registered Nurse who was taught to always aspirate,I would have never just shoved medicine into a patient without aspirating first. It takes 1 second. If you can’t afford 1 second extra with a patient then you need to find another career. Although it was rare I did on several occasions aspirate blood. You stop and redo everything. That does take extra time. But if you are a caring human being (and I certainly hope you are if you are giving injections of any kind to anyone or any animal)you do whatever it takes to take care of your patient. After all if you were the patient wouldn’t you want to be cared for in a kind, humane and safe manner. That nurse should be reprimanded for speaking to you in that manner to begin with. The nurse is supposed to take care of the patient not be a smart a*s. Like someone else has said to be a smart a*s,you have to be smart. Otherwise you are just an a*s. She is the latter.

Johnson and Johnson are currently facing class action law suits over carcinogenic baby powder but people take an experimental vaccine from them for a disease they are very likely at no risk from. Good Germany! When I worked as a diabetes nurse, I recall attending several Becton & Dickinson needle producing company where Dr Krauss and his research team were training diabetes specialists to ensure that the needle length was adjusted to the depth of the fatty tissue in order to make sure that insulin was injected into the fatty tissue, NOT into the muscle, which would result in greatly accelerated absorption of insulin - causing potentially severe hypoglycaemia! All subcutaneous injection needles were changed into shorter ones - not 12mm long ones as was routinely used in adults and even in young children like our 4-year daughter who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Nowadays, many people with Type Diabetes can use patch pumps to deliver their insulin with a tiny needle of 2mm cannula! What a difference this has made to our daughter’s life as a busy mum of three and working with women who have given birth to a baby and are finding their new situation extremely difficult and stressful! No more hypos! Hence, injection technique as well as the needle length and the injection site are crucially important for the safe delivery of vaccines and insulin.

Hi John, I’ve been an avid daily viewer since the start of lockdown but was unsure how to add a comment on KZfaq (hopefully you’ll get this) and would like to thank you for your sound advice keeping me, my family and colleagues safe. In November I went to get my Moderna booster (my previous two jabs were Oxford). My pharmacy was running an excellent injection clinic in an empty shop in my local small shopping area a couple of doors away from their pharmacy. It was always well organised with volunteers to help booking in patients and shepherding them where to go at given times and had about 5 or 6 vaccinators. There was always a queue out side, with everyone at a distance of each other and wearing masks etc. It was whilst we outside that either volunteers and nurses would start the booking in process by asking your name, address, check if you were on their list and went through some safety questions etc. It was at this point I asked if the vaccinators would be able to aspirate? She immediately replied “No it’s not in the guide”. So, I started to have a conversation with her when her colleague, a nurse joined in our conversation and again quoted the guidance and tried to explain how injections work and that there are no blood vessels in the arm. I replied calmly and respectfully that surely it is my choice as to how I &agree to be vaccinated? Their response was, “If you don’t want the injection then we can cross you off the list here and now and I can go about unvaccinated and take the risk of getting Covid, but it’s my choice, get the jab the only way they do it or go away and get poorly but it’s my choice”. I obviously said I want the jab, but was quite upset inside by their choice of words and actions. So, I then went indoors and quickly went into a booth, where I thought to myself what the heck and asked my vaccinator if she would be able to aspirate? Yes of course was her reply. Job done and all that upset didn’t need to have taken place. I did discuss this at a later date with one of the organisers at the pharmacy who was going to discuss this with team at the Vaccination Clinic, especially those outside giving advice and bookings and that it should always be a patient choice and should not be decided by those doing paperwork, ushering and other non vaccinator’s. Thank you for all you advice over the last couple of years or so x
