Love this little painting for many reasons. The movement and lines are magical making a strong composition. Your greens are amazing along with your neutrals. I was shocked when you choose yellowish tones on the rocks in the front, but it totally makes sense. Your commentary is perfect and easy to follow. Thank you for sharing these videos with all of us.

Jessica, love your videos and of course your art. I have a little question, i've heard that lindseed oil is flamable, so do you have a specific rutine with your papel towels and their disposal??? I would really love to know your "rutine". Thanks
@JessicaHenry
@JessicaHenry 4 жыл бұрын
Hi VKnowles, Linseed oil in large amounts on rags can be flammable in the right conditions. In my 30 years of painting, I have always simply wiped my brushes off on paper towels, thrown them away, when the can was full, I threw the bag from the can away. Never had a problem. I think when people wipe up large spills of linseed oil, and cram the drenched rags in a cramped garbage can, they can heat up and ignite. That is not an occurrence in my studio, nor in anyone's I've ever heard of. Either way, I'd hate to mislead anyone into doing anything that violates their conscience. Some professional artists I know take heavy precautions to avoid spontaneous combustion. To each his own. :)

Hiya Jessica, could I just ask a stoopid question? how do you keep your palette clean? My pallette gets in such a mess I end up throwing it away and I mostly use the wax paper variety but would LOVE to use a real one professionally xx lots of love Debs in Spain
@JessicaHenry
@JessicaHenry 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Debbie, (Not a stupid question at all!) The palette is a big concern for many and in fact, I am planning on doing a video (or a webinar series...) just called "Palette Talk" to be offered on our web site soon. There are tricks to keeping your palette clean, and to begin with, you want to scoop out only as much paint as you feel you may need for a passage. I only use my brush for mixing, (not a palette knife) which can use too much paint, making a bigger mess that needed and wasting more paint. My Palette for painting outdoors is very small, so I am frequently scraping off my work area, wiping it down, and beginning anew. To be fair, I am bad at remembering at the end of a session in the studio, to wipe off my palette, and occasionally I have had to sand the whole thing down, and apply a few coats of Spar varnish to it...it happens... but i do love the real thing!

Armand Zottola: why don’t you use smaller brushes for the foreground?
@hardheadcat
@hardheadcat 6 жыл бұрын
You probably been asked this question before but how long do your paints last on your pallet you have way more than what you need
@JessicaHenry
@JessicaHenry 6 жыл бұрын
Because I paint nearly every day, the seem to keep almost indefinitely, but if I didn't they'd dry up after about 3 days. I always put out more than I need, because I like to paint thick and don't want to stop in the middle of a painting, and also it's frustrating to get out more paint while filming, too. I'm always trying to make my time in the field more efficient. I can always take the extra paint, back home and put it in a small plastic container with a lid and put it in a freezer. In fact, I put the paint directly on the inside of the lid of a plastic container, for freezing.

Do you ever have people bug you while you paint? I've watched some videos of other plein air painters encountering strangers in remote places and sometimes their comments can be brutal! XD lol...especially when the onlooker pops up at the 'ugly' stage of the painting and they don't have the vision to see what it's going to become.
@JessicaHenry
@JessicaHenry 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but I have a unique gift of completely blocking out all other sound. People can be right next to me talking and if I’m focused, I won’t hear them at all. I could be tortured and still have no clue what was being said. So, lame comments from people don’t bother me. Maybe my kids helped with that too. They’d come in the studio and ask “are you gonna leave it like that?” Or “... are you done?” And a personal favorite “... what is it?...” I’ve heard them all! 😂😂😂
