This is episode number 239 of the Plein Air Podcast with the incredible plein air and landscape master Don Demers.
Listen and watch as they discuss:
- How your two intelligence centers (your heart and your mind) inform your plein air paintings
- Thoughts on illustrators versus fine artists
- The importance of layering
- And much more
Bonus! In this week's Art Marketing Minute, Eric Rhoads, author of Make More Money Selling Your Art, shares thoughts on how to balance the practice of making and selling art; and what it means to have a "title" as an artist.

Eric, once again you ask the most perceptive and interesting questions of your guest. You allow them to open the door to their inner workings, to be able to bring out the very best of their thoughts and feelings. And of course (and as I've commented on previous podcasts with him) Don Demers is one of the preeminent artistic minds that we have today. His observations and art philosophy are just marvelous. Thank you so much for having him on your show again. I could listen to him every week and and never tire of what he has to say.

Great interview, wonderful artist! Brought back many memories of the beaten to death discussions about Rockwell being an "illustrator", not an "artist". Waiting for class, in the coffee area, it almost made me want to join the table with the ever-present Hare Krishna recruiters. Having spent four years, at two apparently prestigious art schools, '70 - '74, hearing the tired response that "You can't teach art.", Fortunately, I went in knowing that red and yellow made orange. It took me 35 years to realize that I did, indeed, produce a fine, significant body of work (photo), despite essentially being self taught. Thank you for this podcast and your incredible paintings!

That phrase is really scary “good enough”. I would tear up a painting that I thought that about. Good interview! Thanks from New Orleans!!
