Plowing 8" of snow with Kubota B2601. A few weeks ago I customized an old Western truck snow plow to fit my compact tractor. This is the first chance to test it after a real snow.

Hello from Michigan, I have found that if you don't want to go back over what you have plowed already ,speed is the key, it will help move the snow farther away from the blade. Also with a long driveway, go down the middle with the blade straight then angle the blade and push the snow to both sides.

Take the teeth off your box blade and use it to drag in front of the garage doors. Plus use it to push backing up.

Flip your scarifiers around and the box blade is an awesome snow tool as well. Can doze it backwards, and clean up blade trails going forward. Can also get up close to obstacles like garage doors and pull it out. Will take a while to figure out the most efficient way to do your lot...... Montana Dan

I've always manually "edged" the buildings before plowing/blowing the snow. The time and effort it takes to do so is a lot cheaper than the mistake that will cost you. But that's just me. - Nice rig, I like it.

I plow my driveway with a 12 hp lawn tractor and a 46" blade . Your tractor would probably be a little large for getting into the smaller places I plow and I have to push everything onto my property because not allowed to push snow into the street, but it gets done, if it is too deep I pull out the snow blower. LOL

I have a snow blade for a skid steer loader. A few things that I have learned, some the hard way. On my skid steer the plow frame needs to be level with the loader arms all the way down so that the blade is always at the same angle to the ground. I just run the loader frame all of the way down. If the height of the back end of the snow plow frame changes it will change the blade height when sitting on the skids. I use a whole bunch of large flat washers to adjust the skid height. They are a bit expensive but it makes very fine adjustments possible. The extras are always up on top so they don’t get lost.

Find a piece of pipe that just fits over the riser on the shoe and use your band saw to cut different thickness spacers. Cheap. Then store on top like he said.

Problem with plows on FELs is they stick out to far and like to push the tractor sideways. As you use it more you'll probably find you can go faster than you think you can now and the plow works better at those speeds

A lot of people gravel drives take a length of black pipe, use an angle grinder and cut a strip down the middle, then tack it onto the existing cutting edge, it certainly will save gravel but if you get 1" of snow then ice on top I dont thing you'll like the results of the front blade, although if you have a rear blade it should counter act that.
@harveylong5878
@harveylong5878 3 жыл бұрын
yep thats how we do our gravel lots. plow shoes were waste of time, dug in anyways. pack in the first snow event, hopefully freezes up and makes a 'barrier' atop the gravel, so the pipe will glide over over plowing the snow mostly down, come back with bare cutting edge to do a final scrap

Put chains on your tires. I have a small new holland 25hp4x4 and you can't stop it with the chains and a bit of skill. I love the angle blade I may have to get one and put the bucket and snow blower away.👍
@adamj8293
@adamj8293 3 жыл бұрын
I've thought about that. Do you have chains on the just the front, or front and rear? The way they build the B2601 I don't think I can get chains on the rear without adding wheel spaces, which is kind of a dumb design.
@zeus3358
@zeus3358 3 жыл бұрын
@@adamj8293 it is very tight on the rear tires. I just make sure the chains are fairly tight. I have a couple hydraulic lines that are close. I do need to get wheel spacers for the front tires if I want to put those chains on. I have turf tires, which are nice on the grass but suck in the winter. Also my oversized snowblower on the backend helps the chains bite in.

I been planning to build one of these myself. I got a plow blade from a side by side. its missing all the attachment parts so I need to do some building of that part. I been putting it off now for 2 years that I have had the plow blade. its made by Warn. did you notice a lot of side forces pushing the loader frame right or left? that is my biggest concern is tweaking the loader arms with so much side force.
@adamj8293
@adamj8293 3 жыл бұрын
I’ve heard other people mention that but I didn’t notice enough side force to concern me. The front end of the tractor is light enough that it will slide the front tires before it will bend anything. At least that’s what I think based on my limited experience with the plow. I suppose you could slam some frozen piles and cause a problem but as long as you aren’t reckless I wouldn’t be concerned. Especially with a side by side blade, it’s probably a lot lighter than what I have.

I am having a dilemma. I now have a case 1845 skid steer. I found a kabota B1402 M with a front end loader with a 4 foot bucket. It also comes with a 4 foot Roto tiller and rough cut mower. My skid steer is great for clearing snow but that’s basically all I use it for. I would definitely get more use out of the Kabota tractor. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Would the Kabota be good for snow removal?

@adamj8293

I’ve read that too but really don’t think it’s very likely. In my experience the machine will slide before the loader would bend because the tractor is so light. I suppose you could bend something if you plow like a wild man, but use a little common sense and you’ll be good!

I mounted a western plow directly to the front of the tractor. Take the loader off Use loader control for angle and lift. Simple. Cheap. I purposely made the mount bracket the weak point so as not damage tractor or blade. Can switch between loader in snow plow in 15 minutes most.
