This is a really interesting cover of the song. I love how it sounds. It goes in such a different direction than I was expecting. It's just amazing the endless interpretations one can have of the same piece of music, extrapolating different elements of it.

Really interesting to come across a cover of this song which I thought was pretty obscure. Years ago, I heard this song come on on the radio, on the Portland Oregon jazz station, on my morning commute, and I had this sudden impression that I was hearing what ancient music sounded like; The radio host explained the particular story behind the globular flute that Yusef Lateef used; he bought it at a Chinese market in New York City in the 1960s and it was likely an authentic ancient flute, possibly more than a thousand years old. This impression I had though was very strong; the particular quality of the instrument felt like it was from an earlier time in humanity when we were less advanced or something like that. It was just kind of like a raw kind of more stripped back primitive feeling. Which I attribute mostly to the qualities and limitations of the instrument he was using.

Thank you so much for you reactions and for listening to the music! I had a similar experience when i heard it, this tune immediately caught my attention and i knew i wanted to play it. I didn’t know anything about the background, so thanks a lot for informing me about that! I’ve played with different people in different settings and it’s always interesting what comes out of it. It’s a very simpel but powerful strong piece of music, masterpiece by mr lateef i would say!

@@Flutekees That's really cool that we had the same impression and I'm happy I could give some background info. I've played around with it a bit digitally, but never made any finished work deriving from it.
