The California Beekeeper

Күн бұрын

Commercial Beekeeper and Queen Breeder, Jose Uribe, heads up to our Plumas County yard to do some maintenance on the weeds and the bear fence. He tests the fence to see if it is properly working.
If you placed a queen order with us this year… thank you! We are passionate about what we do and are planning on making a big difference in the industry.
If you are new to our channel, welcome! We are a small family owned and operated commercial apiary located in Northern California. We've been commercial beekeeping for the past 12 years, but branched off and opened Uribe Honey Bees in January of 2019, and launched our KZfaq channel in April of 2020. We specialize in queen breeding, pollination services, hive management and brokering.
Thank you for watching and supporting us! We love you guys!

Happy Birthday Jose! If you catch yourself out without your fence tester, pull a green weed, hold it in your hand and touch the end, work your way down until you start feeling it bite you. You know it's on then without the extra zap. Dad used to send me and brother out couple times a week to be sure the fence was working for the cows. Take care and God Bless.

Hold a piece of grass leaf and lay it on the wire about 6” from your hand. It mutes the charge enough to know it’s on without shocking you. Use it all the time to test pasture fence before climbing over.

Make the bottom wire a negative and attach to ground. Don’t use insulator on the tee post with the bottom wire. Now you have a bunch of ground posts.

Great to see your video and happy birthday man. We used to check the voltage using a screwdriver with a plastic end. Hold the screwdriver to the metal T post and then get close to the wire. The larger the spark the better the zap for the bears. You can use metal T post as corners also. They put a support T post at a 45 degree angle to the corner. Pour some water around your ground post every week will help also (gallon or two).

Thanks Russell! Hey those are some great tips!! I do normally have a screwdriver in my truck and I’ll have to try that next time I’m without my tester! Also good to know about the water for the ground. I always new I needed moisture but never thought it was that big of a deal. Now that things get very dry I’m encountering issues like these. Well thanks so much for dropping your feedback.

Use to get hold of the fence for fun when I was young, just take a long piece of hay and slowly get closer to the fence. It wouldn't take long and you could hold the wire.
