Plumbing Apprentice's Life. We turn on domestic water in this summer home for the season. Follow this Journey as I train my two sons the plumbing trade. Gonna be a long but good journey.

I’m a sophomore in high school and I already know that I want to pursue the field of trades. Where I live in Indiana it’s in such a high demand and and I would love to do hands on stuff while working my job. I am blessed of the opportunity to be able to have to ask questions and gain knowledge of these jobs, my uncle and dad both are in a apprenticeship program and are one year off getting their journeyman’s license in plumbing and I wanna do this cause of the fact that it’s not as hard as I thought it would be able to apply for one considering the certifications needed for it. Even though I advise it, you don’t NEED to be a straight A student be able to attend plumbing school which I think is great. I can’t wait to learn more about this field.

Yes, it's a good trade, you get out of it what you put into it, it's not always easy and fun, it will be very stressful and you will want to quit alot of times,, the work will be slow to crazy busy at times, not everyone can be a plumber, when you put the time, and hard work in the knowledge will come and the talent,and confidence, only then will you be a plumber

Sooo many haters hating.... let these guys live. At least he's being a good dad and showing his kid a trade. Also at least his son is willing to learn. Seems like a good father son relationship. They probably have a blast living the American dream! Let these people live.. 2 thumbs up!!

100% I went from working bars to bouncing to infantry to university and now at 31 im chasing down an adult apprenticeship after working for a landscaper who was a commercial plumber by trade. Way to many 'intellectuals'these days talking about hyopthetical shit and not enough doers making things happen. My step dad was a carpenter, tailor, leathersmith by trade and spent nearly a decade earning a fortune working cattle stations. I appreciate intelligent people but when the shit hits the fan who you gonna choose? A lifestyle blogger over a hard yakka working class tradesman?

My dad died when I was 17, before he taught me anything, and he had over 25 years experience in construction. I will forever envy any man who’s dad taught them a trade. This video is awesome to see. Miss ya dad

Wow, I’m 17 now and my dad is 43 and has over 20 years in construction, I couldn’t imagine losing him right now, I’m so glad he’s teaching me about construction. Sorry that happened, I hope you are doing alright man.

I watched this video over 9 months ago, before I started my plumbing apprenticeship, as I was seeing what the job was like. I had no idea what I was watching or what you guys were doing or talking about. Now that I've been in probably 300-400 homes during my apprenticeship, I know exactly what you're talking about and doing. It's fun to sort of know what's going on now haha.

I just started as a apprentice about 5 months ago with this plumbing company. Before I didn’t know nothing about plumbing, and the people I was working with where getting mad that I didn’t had no experience. They wanted me to know everything already and wanted me to learn everything in one month. I was about to quit because they where making me feel like I wasn’t getting the hang of it, but I’ve been working my ass off to prove them i got this. Watching you this video just makes me wish the guys at work had your patience for me. I’m not giving up on learning this trade because now that I have some months in, I do like the job.

Chuck Barron I finally got my foot in the door after plenty of plumbing companies turned me down. I’m taking a pay cut but I think it will pay off down the road. I’m doing a plumbing apprenticeship with my dad and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve accidentally left a meter key in somebody’s front yard and then have to buy my dad a new one.

Great job on the video editing. The background music doesn't drowned out what you guys are saying or doing. Perfect job I wish other people producing videos would watch yours and take note of how it's supposed to be done properly. On another note I am a general contractor and find it extremely hard to find young people who are willing to work. Unfortunately our young folks have been indoctrinated with the adage that manual labor is somehow demeaning. What I find you meaning is having to pay somebody else a lot of money to do something I could have learned to do myself. Great job and good parenting.

Every generation calls the younger generations lazy, I bet your grandparents thought the same of you. There are many motivated men and women looking to enter the workforce. Never learned plumbing with my father he would always make me just watch and never do anything then get mad when I didn’t know how to do things correctly , I could never ask him questions cause they were stupid questions because I was just supposed to know I could never do anything when I wanted to try to do things , I remember the first faucet I changed in a house I had to watch a KZfaq video to replace it

That’s how my father was too. And still is to this day. Sometimes it seems like it’s best to just learn but yourself through trial and error. Every time I tried to learn from him and the first mistake I made or couldn’t understand fully he’d flip out.

Anti freeze straight to the sewer. A lot of people don’t know but a lot of chemicals can absorb into water but they never come out.

Been a apprentice for a while now I think the best thing to do is the get the tools ready before the tech even needs them. Have everything ready to go. Clean up and bring tools out when you know you don’t need something and just get in there and start working. If you know what you have to do and know how to do it just go for it. People like to see a drive and will reward you for it

Was thinking of being an electrician but as I did my research I realized that I don’t have the best long term memory and everything has to be perfectly up to code and codes change every 3 years and the code book is the size of a text book. I’m thinking of being a plumber instead lol

@@ChuckBarron st. Louis mo. I've wanted to be a plumber since I was 17 or so. Im 26 now. I just forgot about it for a while. Probably because some people in my life at the time gave me a hard time for picking that as a career. Also I started to become depressed since that age. Now that I'm better, I just remembered that that was what I wanted to do. Honestly, this is the only career I'm interested in. I'm bit sure why, but the idea of any other job gives me anxiety. This is the only career choice that I'm really interested in. The one where I'm excited to learn and practice. I can't wait to get some experience. Thanks for replying.

It’s a good idea to flush those toilets like 4 or 5 times and check under the sinks for leaks I’ve found many drips that way also good to fill tub and sinks too make sure they hold water

it wasnt till i got old and more at ease with life in general did i understand what needed to be my view point in the sense of how better my own future skills could have been better serve by a simple understanding that we learn by other mistakes, as well as our own hence there are no dumb questions, just be safe and practice those habits that will leave you each day intact

On the service valve before the meter set u should operate slowly to pack the regulator. If you open to quick it could stacy stuck closed. Just a reminder. I used to install those.

Honestly plumbing seems interesting to me if I wanted to learn more about it would I have to take college courses first or would I be able to start off at a plumbing job without experience and learn through a job ?

It’s hard to get into a union and it’s very political. In my opinion just go to a plumbing company that’s willing to teach you, because many old plumbers won’t want to teach you. Avoid the school for a few reasons. First they won’t teach you much and you will have to pay them back. Second, many companies won’t want to hire you because of a lack of experience and they won’t want to pay you plumber wages because a pice of paper say they need to.

Plumbing schools on florida require a licensed sponsor to enroll. I found a job and then they sent me to school after a year. I'm in 4th year now. Best decision of my life! Good luck!?

This looks like such satisfying work. I’m currently working a dead end office job which I don’t like. Im looking into the plumbing trade for a career. Should I signup for an online course and get a certificate to learn the fundamentals then apply as an apprentice? I’ll be moving to the cherry hill nj area soon.

It's actually called a "curb key" guys.. not a meter key or whatever you guys were saying lol. I work in Syracuse NY as a apprentice plumber. My first year working with my dad was exactly like that. But my dad was tougher.. and alot of digging. Keep up the good work gentleman.

Another pliers plumber, no flat jaw wrench ,mar up all the chrome. Some day when you can afford a new Lexus and you take it to the dealer for a bulb in the dash out ,I hope they work on it with a claw hammer and a pry bar.

Hello. Can I ask you a small question. I have a toilet upstairs in my house. I live alone I never use it. Can I just turn off the rear main feed valve to the tank and empty out the toilet and just let it sit until I’m ready to renovate the bathroom? Is there any danger inherent in doing that? I found your video because I signed up to be a plumber. Why does it take so long to become a journeyman? That looked fairly easy. I wondered what you have to do if there is a broken pipe in someone's wall? Do you have to tear out the wall and rebuild it after?

So much to learn in plumbing....basically a health department of safety for all humans. as far a holes in walls....we make em neat but usually do not fix. I have fixed in some cases for sure.

It's a load of bull really, but it can be obtained much faster by going to trade school as apposed to shop which needs 4 whole years. The perk of shop is that you get to do a lil bit of everything making you more valuable in the future.

So I've been doing plumbing for little bit now and I'm in my first year of school, the plumber i work for is always calling me a fucking idiot and putting me down and its not like im not trying. theres never a minute where my hands are in my pocket or im just fucking off, im constantly giving it my all and he doesn't seem to care. I try to ask him questions about the job and never get an educated response. Are all plumbers like this to the helpers? Or am i just working for a jerk

@@biggumstevens1784 Depends what company you end up working for. It usually isn't cakewalk work like this. You'll be down in the trenches digging ditches, manhandling heavy cast iron pipe, doing all the brute work. It'll be months before you ever pick up an actual power tool. At 40, you should make sure you're prepared for all the extensive manual labor that's involved before you jump in. I was like 23 when I got in, was in peak shape and that work was still tough for me to keep up with. Was on a crew roughing in a new development, roughing in one house right after the next, it was brutal. Think I was getting paid something like $20/hour non-union. If you can get in with a union, your starting pay will be a lot higher but it's very hard to get into the union. Lots of competition and you gotta know people if you want to have any shot at being accepted.

@@losferwords100 I was in security police and fire union, I basically have trained to be a cop so I am not in horrible condition. Lifting heavy shit isn't that bad, and digging ditches isn't that bad to me either.

@@biggumstevens1784 It'll still be rough. It's hard to compare if you've never worked in construction before. Everyday is training day depending on the crew you get on with I guess. Some guys out there are animals and will work from sun up to sun down and then do it all over again the next day. Other crews are more laid back. If you're green and want to jump in, new construction is the best place to get your feet wet. Service work is the easier side of the trade, you can get into that later. That and commercial work. You'll figure out real quick what kind of work you like the most and then hone in on that. Most guys like service work like this (drain cleaning, water heater replacements, fixing leaks, etc.), I always liked new construction but do some service when the building market gets slow. I don't think anybody likes commercial work but maybe you will. Don't know until you try.

You can’t really learn plumbing starting off in service. You need knowledge/experience with all 3 building phases to be a competent service plumber.

Super Great Point!! I did a ton of new new construction from track work with slabs, to custom homes. It gives you a sort of x-ray vision on service in a home.

I'm 23 and just graduated with a degree in business. I'm actually pursuing a second degree in CS while at the same time going to trade school for plumbing. My family owns a lot of property and I see how much these plumbers make and I just hate seeing uneducated morons make so much money, no offense. I said to myself I'm a really smart guy and I cant allow so many unprofessional and unreliable tradesman make so much money while I work a 9-5 making shit. The 2 most in demand fields, in my opinion, are Software engineering and trades. Trades will become increasingly valuable as more and more people attend college and seek a regular job. I hate hate hate unethical and unreliable tradesman... I cant stand them. We had multiple plumbers who would show up 1 day and then would disappear for like 3 weeks and they have the audacity to charge 1k for 4 hours of work to connect like 7 pipes. I would do it too but I would atleast get the job done as quick and clean as possible. You cant go into someone's home mess up all the floors and shit and just leave after you're done. Clean that shit up, that's how professionals work.
