This video is for those wanting to know about Australian Parrots in the wild with emphasis on what they eat. The parrots are colourful birds and Australia was called the land of Parrots by early Dutch sailors freighting from the spice Islands. Enjoy.

I've owned parrots (small green ones) since childhood. In adulthood, mostly the lovely cockatiels. I just lost a beloved lutino female to cancer a month and a half ago after 17 years. I miss her so much. I love your documentaries on birds but especially on parrots. I just subscribed. Thank you for all your hard and dedicated work to bring us in the comfort of our homes all this wonderful wealth of information! ❤🦜❤

A little know secret is that Eclectus birds have a call they only show their friends. In the morning they can be heard calling "Aussie Aussie Aussie, Oi Oi Oi." a very original call, even for a bird.

Where I live in Adelaide, I frequently see yellow-tailed black cockatoos, red-rumped parrots, Adelaide rosellas, sulphur crested cockatoos, galahs, rainbow lorikeets, little lorikeets, musk lorikeets, and in areas nearby I also see eastern rosellas, corellas, and crimson rosellas. I have seen australian ring necks in the wild too!

Many years ago now I had the pleasure of seeing a pair of hooded nesting in an anthill hollow. What made that day so special was within an hour we also saw red and black faced Gouldian's feeding together on the ground in the same scrubby country. It's a complete shame on Australia that these birds have been put under such pressure. The vivid blue on the lower backs of Red wings is one of the most breath taking sights to see in Australian parrots in my opinion.

I love the way you talk about Australian History and Nature. Such amazing movies are sadly not really made anymore; so I am all the more grateful for these fantastic videos and insider knowledge! I have some bonded pairs of parrots (pets) and I am wondering HOW they communicate when to do things as a pair (or in the wild: as a flock) - as they often take off, screech or do things at exactly the same time. Must be their brain stems synchronising or something like that.

At end of 12 min mark and into 13 min mark 2 Pale headed rosellas were on the ground feeding. One was feeding the other and narrator said it was an adult feeding a fledgling. Not fact. It was 2 adults engaged in beak feeding which strengthens bonds in the partnership. Pale headed rosella young are born with red heads. I have seen many of them in avian rescue/rehab in Queensland.

So many species - it's hard to keep up with them all ! Nice presentation. I'd be interested to know - how much faster is the Swift parrot - than it's nearest cousin ? Does speed make them less vulnerable to predation ie. are they notably more successful for this ?

It would depend in how well and fast it managed to adapt to foraging for its own food if it managed to work out how to feed itsef fairly quickly then i wouldnt see why it couldn't survive in the wild.
