So during the episode of the "guy using plus sized gal for her money" I noticed one big mistake, at the very end when he asks for his guitar and the guy says no he is holding on to it for collateral that is actually illegal. He can hold on to the car because the work was done on it and get a sales title given to him to get back what he put into the car but he CANNOT keep things deemed personal property.

Actually yes they can. Anything in the car can be held till payment is made. Only thing they legally can not hold is anything that contains personal information like insurance, registration etc
