Tonight was our second July author chat and we loved having return guest Jean Hanff Korelitz come back to chat all things The Latecomer and she doubled our fun when she brought along her friend Julia Whelan who also narrated the audiobook!
Jean and Julia chatted with Jennifer Claunch, group moderator, about the book's premise, each of the primary members of the Oppenheimer family, the art referenced in the book and Jean's source for curating such a dream collection, her favorite character to write, as well as a bit about the adaptation status of Jean's recent books and more! Interspersed throughout the chat, Julia and Jean conversed over their collaboration, Julia's favorite character to narrate, the prep work and editing of an audiobook, Julia's love for the book, how she got started in audiobooks, the first 2 books she narrated, the site she recommends people review if they are interested in becoming a narrator (www.narratorsr..., the elevator pitch for her upcoming book Thank You for Listening, what she is currently working on and more!
❤️As always we like to end our chats by asking what our guest is currently reading and/or recommending, here are Jean's favorites/recs:
~Nothing to See Here by Kevin Wilson amzn.to/3ccyvlx
~Now is Not the Time to Panic by Kevil Wilson amzn.to/3PBguMm (pre-order now, it publishes on Nov. 8, 2022)
~The Imperfectionists by Tom Rachman amzn.to/3RLraJU
Julia candidly admitted she doesn't read too much outside of work, but she let us know that she is currently working on and loving Cormac McCarthy's upcoming duology. The first book The Passenger is slated to come out October 25, 2022 amzn.to/3cpxkPZ and the 2nd book Stella Marlis to be published on December 6 2022. amzn.to/3cosQsW Get those pre-orders and library recommendations in asap!
If you are in the NYC area be sure to check out The Butcher Boy at @irish_rep, it's written (lyrics/script/music) by Jean's son! The first preview is Thursday!
We'd be remiss if we didn't also take a moment to get Julia's upcoming novel Thank You for Listening on your radar; it drops on August 2, 2022 and you can pre-order it here: amzn.to/3yPmtX4

Good question, I Just finished the book and keep wondering why Phoebe chose to go to Roarke.

Lol Hearing Jean being so hard on Harrison. He was unlikeable, but so brilliant in his thoughts - she wrote his ramblings eloquently. I wanted to ask if Roarke was named so because of Ayn Rand and the philosophy expressed in her books, The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged?
