This is nostalgic. I used to fly A-10s out of Myrtle Beach AFB. The apron area from where you launched is where the 353rd, 354th, and 355th Fighter Squadrons were parked. The large concrete pad to the left of the taxiway, near the approach end of Runway 18, which you taxied past, was the "last chance check" area. This is where ground crew would pull the safety pins from weapons and give the exterior of each aircraft a final visual inspection prior to takeoff.

When were you stationed in Myrtle Beach? I spent 6 years in Myrtle from 1984 till 1990. I worked in Line-D for Falcon CMU in the bomb dump. We operated out of the little brick building out by the engine test cell. I had a close friend and neighbor off base in my condo building that also flew for Falcon. He crashed his A-10 and died tragically though.

I had the opportunity to fly in a DC-7 once as a younger child. It was stripped down and used as a cargo plane my uncle was the pilot and he and my father bought the plane in an attempt to start a cargo transport company. They only made one trip flying cattle to Hawaii I didn't go on that trip but I did help load the cattle and that was quite an experience.

The DC-6 is such a majestic old bird, real classic. Can only imagine what it was like to cross the Atlantic back in the day on a Pan Am DC-6. Love how they modeled the brake sounds too, sounds the same as the Boeing B-29 brakes do

At 13:25 you said that you would not engage takeoff wet because it’s not raining. Takeoff wet and dry does not mean weather. If you watch the PMDG videos the guy mentions that you would use takeoff wet for when your airplane is heavier than 91,000lbs. Basically there’s some sort of water pump system in the engines that allows the engines to have more power during takeoff. I love your videos though! I can’t wait to see your videos for the PMDG 737!

Nice flight video here, and good view of the beach after takeoff. Also i really like the landing playbacks. I mostly fly newer more modern aircraft but...you have me wanting to fly this DC6. I can definitely see the fun in flying old skool airplanes. With me also being a fan of the 80s era jet airliners, such as 727, L1011, DC9, things like that, I cant wait to see some of those come to msfs2020. That md80 will be a good addition.

You should try a 1950's Lockheed Constellation. Fly it over some high mtns. in a storm. A lot of these type of planes were the start of modern commercial airlines. Only problem is they really should have an engineer, just to stoke the boiler and blow the whistle.

Just to let you know, takeoff dry or wet is not runway condition. It's based off weight. Anything over 86k and you need take off wet. To give the plane the needed lift to fly. Take off wet puts water in the cylinders to give them more thrust. PMDG has a tutorial about the system on their yt channel for it

Nice vid love the DC6. I like how it’s presented tutorial style. By the way, “pilotage” is the term for using ground references for navigation. “Dead reckoning” is pointing towards a prescribed heading and hoping you hit your mark. That’s what Lindbergh used to cross the Atlantic.

Jeff, why aren’t you playing DCS yet? It’s the most realistic simulation and you literally have to learn the start up procedures for the every Jet and helicopter in game. Fighter pilots play it and say the start up procedures and radar technology is no different than the high Fidelity DCS models. It’s incredible. Hope to see you in a server one day.
