We use to call the Kano choke in MK 3 "the baby shaker" when we were young

MKX Kano player here! It was less that we didn't believe Cutthroat was his best variation, it's that we WANTED Cybernetic to be good because most of us were zoning enthusiasts who saw a mid hitting projectile. I only ditched Commando eventually because my training partner was one of the better Sub-Zero players who pushed the meta forward for the character, and playing a grappler into Grandmaster was depressing

Commando Kano will always be my favorite NRS character in MKX and probably top 3 NRS character. Two command grabs, two parries, extra strings and a hit grab. Every grappler players dream. Nowadays NRS is scared of grapplers and will never make a real one again. Really sad.

I legit had no idea that MK3 Kano literally had an air grab, I have never seen this man kick someone in the chest while airborne in my entire life.

I still remember the "Dundee" combo that was shown off before MK11 released and how disappointed I was when you couldn't equip all 3 moves anymore

I think "THE CRAAZY KANO BALL!" should be a standard way of saying this phrase.

Kano is literally one of the most iconic bad guys in fighting games. But its really a shame they never got Kano to do anything significant in MK lore, especially in the modern series. in the latest games (MK9, MKX, MK11 etc) he was nothing but a jobber. Sonya dies in MK11, at least let Kano to get it done, show that he is actually dangerous, give him moe role in the stories but no, NRS never cared about lore anyway, all they cared about was lolz and trollz. what a shame :)

Dang Kano has a up and down track record, glad these last three games he did amazing. Though both in X and 11, he had to buffed We will see if he becomes DLC in 1 soon. Also today is my birthday, thank you for this birthday gift

Kano was one of my favorites in MK VS DC but me and my brother were only online warriors and played in clan battles when we played, we didn’t know at the time there was offlines for the events that reo and Tom Brady went to but I’d imagine kanos gotta be high tier. Every other attack in rage breaks block so Kano could loop 4,3 until before rage runs out and do the DF1 combos. Kano had eye laser restand in the corner so you could 0 to death someone in one touch if you used rage. In rage I remember finding a 100% + combo and this was when I was in 1st grade 😭😭😭, good times 🥲

Yknow what would be fantastic? A "Comp History Catchup", where anybody whos recently had a new character addition in a newer entry (dlc for 11, mk1 characters, so on so forth) where you blitz through a handful (or all) of the characters already covered and see how they're shaping up in newer entries, making a new episode every now and then to touch up on whos back. Could do a smaller chunk so you can make it an episodal series which would also give time for more characters to come back, like Ermac and Takeda most notably, since both have been covered already.

I absolutely love Kano and was so disappointed when he wasnt in mk1.

Kano's always been my favorite. I find him to be the most relatable villain character and the only funny one. He's down to earth, practical, and sarcastic about the crazy stuff going on all around him, sort of like an evil Johhny Cage.

Krazy Kano ball has more utility then you think. It’s in the small list of 4 or 5 moves that for some reason the computer doesn’t know how to react too … if you spam it against the computer and your not on the endurance or bosses in trilogy even on the hardest ladder the computer struggles to react to it. You can’t guarantee spam it like you can rain’s weather ball but it still works good. The computer isn’t programmed to block rains weather ball 90% of the time even on the hardest ladder lol until you get to motoro where it bounces back and Shao will block it lol

UMK3 kano gets rated down quite a lot because he can't deal with instant air projectiles, and functionally in UMK3 "you can't fight kabal" means "ggs go next"

Trilogy Kano main here to say never forget his alternate costume! His blade spin special can be held as long as you tap the punch button, and could stop some of the best non-projectile specials in the game from connecting

Imma just call it the Kano PinBall. That was the name that popped into my head first.

MK vs DC Kano - - He plays the D1/Up2 meta like everyone else. - Has one of the best sweeps, and one of the best overheads in the game with standing 4 (with practice is hit confirmable). - His best button in neutral is standing 2, which is fairly easy to hit confirm into df1. If 2 is blocked, 22 is an easy block confirm, however any special after 22 is blockable, but at least it gives him a 2 hit string he can use a little bit. 44 is also a decent string with a smaller gap than his other strings and can be used against the wall as a combo starter. - He has one of the best anti airs in the game with upball or kanoball. His knife projectile is also one of the best projectiles in the game and a great combo extender. - The promove version of upball or his normal air kanoball can be used as a rage escape, which not many characters have, but isn't completely safe vs Flash's Spin, Liu/Sonya cartwheel kick, or Raiden's superman. - Promove upball can also be used at the end of combos to leave him standing next to the opponent instead of 3/4ths screen away. - He conditions you to hold block out of fear of upball/kanoball/up2. - He conditions you in general out of fear from his parry which is one of the best moves in the game and decently safe. His parry + damage is why he is higher than mid tier. Also parries wakeups and most importantly: It parries up2/d1. Very little risk for parrying after knockdowns. Can mix it up with kanoball on knockdowns to keep conditioning the opponent. - Eventually he is able to condition you to the point where standing 4 hit confirm becomes an option, or at the very least, less chance of being punished due to being caught off guard by standing 4's insane speed/being an overhead/decently safe. - He is one of the few males that does well against female characters by having upball to replace the up2 meta, which whiffs vs females for all males. - He does not have a Rage Exploit Combo Midscreen that can be set up in any decent way. However, after hitting someone with rage, he can run up an attempt a 43 with very little risk due to super armor. Best strategy here is to delay any attacks after a rage knockdown, unless they roll. Quick Recover is the best option vs Kano's rage knockdown midscreen. Anything else he will likely find a way to convert. If they Quick Recover, Kano's best option is to upball into run into a very tight, but guaranteed 43 43 43 Rage Exploit - He does have Rage Exploit Combo Wall, which can be used after an up2 plant, upball/promove.. 43 43 43 is his Rage Exploit Combo, and the damage scaling is fairly easy to reset compared to other characters. - His rage exploit combo weakness is that df1 hits the ground, which allows the opponent to escape with rage. This is actually huge. Thankfully, Kano gets enough damage as it stands without needing an REC. Overall, Kano has very few weakness, strikes fear into the opponent from his damage, parry, and ridiculously fast startup on many moves, which includes after knockdowns. He is one of the best characters in the game, but his buttons would make you think he is mid tier at best. He is not completely safe (See above about Flash/Liu/Sonya), not every move is parryable (Sonya's Kiss for example). He is a character that requires you to actually use your brain to fight against, and most definitely has to be counterpicked. And of course, punishing his gaps if the Kano is lesser skilled player. He is anywhere between 5th and 8th on my Tier List for the game. Online his strings are blockable midstring. He virtually cannot combo from any string or normal online. He is also limited to just one df1 per combo online for some reason. His upball promove is extremely spammable online, has virtually no hurtbox, and very little recovery. By the time you chase him down after a upball promove, he can simply do it again. Again, he must be counterpicked by a character that has moves with range (See above)

When I played MKX I really wished that he'd have a variation-universal overhead Would've made Cybernetic Kano much higher in the tierlist

Love the breakdown. As a Kano fan myself, I feel that he is an underestimated fighter as he is an overall solid character. I love in the later years they played up his dirty fighter brawler style. I would love tonsee in the future he gets more of a Combo moveset bc lately it seems to have less combos and always seems to be unsafe. All in all, I love this character and even though he isn't in MK1 base roster as it's probably best to give him a break. I just hope upon his return he has a few improvements and as with most villains gets a better role in the story other being a jobber.
