I’ve had numerous pneumothorax’s, one tension pneumothorax and two spontaneous, I am currently in hospital with my 3rd in under 3 years, had chemical pleurodises done on my right lung after a lung collapse, and have had two left sided collapsed lungs, and had Vats surgery done on my left lung a few days ago, they reckon it’s due to being tall and thin and being a young male in my 20’s, it’s a pretty painful experience to go through multiple times but it’s made me a stronger person For it, god bless you all.

Since you've had it multiple times I would love to ask, were your symptoms the same each time? I had bilateral pneumothorax and have been out of hospital for a month now and worry I won't notice it come back before it gets too bad 😅 did you also have trouble sleeping on one side or is that just me and after surgery how long did it take you to stop feeling rib pains? (Assuming we had the same surgeries, I believe so anyway) hope you recover well man:) (also a tall slim guy in my 20's :c) any information would be very appreciated and very helpful, just want to hear what someone else going through it experiences😅

@@MrFlyingsquirrel19 Hey no problem I don’t mind explaining man. Well i had back pain all 3 times as the first symptom, but in general my first lung collapse was a tension pneumothorax (the most dangerous type) I was in a tremendous amount of pain, and my breathing was very very shallow like baby breaths cause everytime I tried breathing, it was like someone was crushing my chest and back at the same time. My two left pneumothorax where a lot different besides the back pain, it wasn’t as bad to breath so to speak, but the pain felt more central in my chest especially my most recent one I just had 2 weeks today, the ambulance had said for me to take 4 aspirin tablets and to be near a defibrillator. This made me think I was having a heart attack As the centre of my chest felt tremendously heavy. Yes the trouble sleeping man is 100% normal I can’t sleep on my left side due to all the cuts and holes from the tubes unfortunately. As regards to the rib pain etc that’ll most likely last a long time as nerve damage is caused by the surgery, something the can’t really afford your likely to get random pains from time to time ( nothing to serious) but will most likely last a good while.

@@MrFlyingsquirrel19 one piece of advice I would give you is if you notice the pain lasting any longer than an hour or two or it starts getting worst, get yourself into the hospital man, and trust your instincts to no if something is of, I do hope your feeling better I myself only came home 2 days ago and am still recovering I do hope I’ll never have to go through it again. Such a draining experience both mentally and physically

hi i have a couple of question. first of does pneumothorax comes back even after surgery ? and is it a common disease?
@Brian2229
@Brian2229 Жыл бұрын
@@sailoryul The chances of a repeat Pneumothorax after surgery is less than 5% I was told, but it would only be recommended to be done if you had multiple lung collapse’s. I was told the disease is on the rise in Ireland 🇮🇪 anyways that is, but in saying that it is still quite uncommon overall worldwide.

A tension pneumothorax can cause complete collapse of the nearby lung and can push the heart and major blood vessels to the other side of the chest. This is a life-threatening emergency. Tension pneumothorax most commonly occurs in people with penetrating chest injuries.👍

I really hate pneumothorax, I had that happened to me spontaneously which chances are like 1 out of 10,000 in men of happenings and I was so unlucky I had to go through surgery just a few days ago. The hole wasn't small either, they told me I would probably die or get the surgery done to survive ASAP. It shows how delicate we are and we need to take care of ourselves. The surgery was really painful and I suffer but at the end I survived and I am still recovering from it.

I had a spontaneous pneumothorax when I was 17. I was eating dinner, coughed a little and didn't think much of my chest pain shortly afterward. Especially because I was used to having a little chest pain from when I was younger and had croup (a lot). Long story short I went to bed and woke up early in the morning with strong pain and difficulty to breath. I told my mother. Luckily we were living 100 meters away from hospital (as I was already walking very slowly my mother drove me as far as possible and we went to the emergency room.) Thank god the doctor had a bad feeling and rushed me (already with an oxygen mask) to the x-ray Machine). At this point I had terrific pain and significant issues with breathing. I was crying non-stop but got treated with oxygen for around 6 days. Thankfully my pneumothorax was treatable with oxygen as I didn't have one before and I hope it stays like this!! This was a great video showing the important facts and what to watch out for when dealing with chest pain and breathing issues especially when dealing with a young man.

@@obamawastaken9069 hello, didn’t you have a surgery after your second collapse? @@idriscolpan2223 Hey, I was just rereading my comment and I meant to say 2 years but mistyped. But to answer your actual question I haven’t had any surgery yet but I am on route to having one this year. (for anyone with concerns) Had bilateral pneumothorax 2 months ago , was in for 3 weeks with drains either side (nurses called them handbags since they were connected to 2 small hand carry pumps 🤣) I smoked wayyy too much weed before hand (bonging 😩) noticed pain on 3rd of November and went in some time around January, I'm tall and slim and I used to sit down all day (for anyone wanting data lol) and since quitting smoking I've felt so much better, spirometer/airlife thing is up to 4000ml per breath 😄 can definitely heal from collapsed lungs or a collapsed lung. Eat loads of protein to aid in healing if you have wounds still and don't smoke! (Granted Ive had one or two which is significantly less than I would have had and notice pain starting again, if you're reading this trying to find an excuse to smoke again, just don't, it's not worth it😄 your life is worth more) oh and the pain was very much located right under my collar bones but I assume it would be different for everyone, furthermore rib pain persists for a while and it can be hard to distinguish sharp stabbing pain associated with recurrence and rib pain, if anyone reading this is going through It rn I could use a buddy to chat it all out with too lol

@@badboyhall2007able I had tension pneumothorax and my right lung literally wouldn't inflate. It was my second pneumothorax as my first one resolved itself. I was aspirated and given a chest drain for 10 days, where I was back up to full size, but I had a "bulla" (2cm blister-type thing) on the top of my right lung. Considering both pneumothoraces were on the same side and the time-span between them was less than a month, I was transferred to a specialist hospital, where they focused on respiratory stuff. Had my surgery and came out of hospital 4 days later. Having my X-ray to make sure everything's fine soon

@RSw_Why
@RSw_Why 3 жыл бұрын
@@ylfaer for me, I didn't specifically feel pain, but more aching than anything else. On my right side, (the side of the lung that collapsed) I would feel a serious discomfort in my back, and around the shoulder. Idk if that was just me. Sometimes, I would have an "asthmatic grunt" is what my mum called it. Basically sometimes I would grunt when exhaling for whatever reason, probably because I had less air in my lungs that usual. Personally I felt fine breathing when not moving, for example laying down or sitting down or standing still (though, sitting down and laying down was the time where I would feel the aching I described earlier the most). I'd have no shortness of breath there but after a short distance walk it kicks in. Hope this answers your question.

@@willy.2002_ thanks for sharing your experience. That is scary. Glad you're much better now. I read somewhere that the doctor can remove the pleura membrane so that the lungs would stick directly to the chest cavity to prevent future lung collapse from re-occurring. Not sure how that works as I'm not a doctor. I had a scare two nights ago and my doctor suspected pneumothorax but thank God my x-rays and blood tests show everything to be normal, doctor now suspects it might just be a pulled muscle instead. But I do share the fear of actual pneumothorax sufferers now that I've researched it a bit more! Wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy! Stay safe.

LOL, watching how I blasted all over the "place" in less than a month was shocking, I used what I talked about the other day, and although it actually took about 5 weeks for my volume to double, I just go'ogled Jan Venstaker's Shooting Ropes and her reaction has been priceless!
