In this episode of Years After..., we will visit PNR San Pablo Station to check the PNR San Pablo to Lucena Line Inter-Provincial Commuter and the train stations that is included in the line nine years after its closure. Kuya KC will share his experience during the 11am train bound to Lucena filmed last July 2, 2022.
The Philippine National Railways (PNR) (Filipino: Pambansang Daang-Bakal ng Pilipinas and Spanish: Ferrocarril Nacional de Filipinas) is a state-owned railway company in the Philippines which operates one commuter rail service between Metro Manila and Laguna, and local services between Sipocot, Naga and Legazpi in the Bicol Region. It is an attached agency of the Department of Transportation.

You can post your questions about the train line here. I will do my best to answer it. Thank you for watching the PNR San Pablo to Lucena episodes ^_^ I didn't expect that this will be discovered by thousands of people. I actually expected that it will be like 100 views in a month just like the previous videos before this series ^_^ I will definitely visit this line from time to time to check the situation just like what I did in Candelaria Station. I'm also happy for the community that was established here. Yes PNR still has a long way to go but little by little, Philippines will definitely catch up to its Southeast Asian neighbors in terms of train infrastructures. I hope that this will not be the end of our journey and I hope that you will continue to move forward with me as I discover the other places here in the Philippines through our 4 active shows (Kindness Cat Adventures, Kindness Cat Eats ^_^, Kindness Cat Cares, Years After...).

I had to look up on their site if there are other legs that had been reopened, but it looks like they aren't that quick to update because that leg you travelled on is still closed per their website.

It looks like many are just excited to try the train that finally restarted after so many years (many of the young people haven't seen the older version). So whatever the shortcomings of PNR, hopefully, they will be able to straighten things out for the convenience of everyone.

Mhmm, restructuring and maintenance of the initial PNR lines should be the priority for now. As the system improve and demand increase, then more rail lines seems feasible.

I was talking about the government. Sadly one of the reasons that it's not progressing is because they're not making money out of it. Not like the metro rails where get loads of money daily.

@@yomama383 Over 650 transport infra projects completed under Duterte admin By Raymond Carl Dela Cruz July 23, 2021, 3:47 MANILA - There are at least 671 infrastructure projects already completed by the Department of Transportation (DOTr) less than a year before President Rodrigo Duterte steps down from office, with over 200 more projects expected to be completed before and even beyond his term. In an editorial on Wednesday, Build, Build, Build Committee chair Anna Mae Yu Lamentillo said the DOTr has so far completed 214 airport projects, 451 commercial and social seaport projects, six railway projects - all these in addition to various road sector projects such as the Edsa Busway and Covid-19 mitigation efforts. “The President’s instructions were clear from the onset: Finish as many Build, Build, Build projects as possible in the soonest possible time. Whoever gets the credit is none of our business,” Lamentillo said. In the aviation sector, one of the big-ticket items is the recently completed passenger terminal building of the Clark International Airport by the DOTr and the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA), increasing the airport’s passenger capacity from the previous 4.2 million to 12.2 million per year. In the maritime sector, the DOTr, through the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) has inaugurated hundreds of new and rehabilitated ports before and throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. Among these port projects are the Port of Cagayan de Oro with the country’s biggest port passenger terminal building with a capacity of 3,000 passengers, the Port of Borac in Coron, Palawan, the Port of Iligan in Lanao del Norte, and the Port of Masao in Agusan del Norte. At least 101 seaport projects are ongoing to further help connect the archipelago. In the railway sector, six railway projects have so far been completed while the Metro Rail Transit Line 3’s (MRT-3) “massive rehabilitation” is ongoing and has so far increased the train service’s operational speed and headway in the midst of the pandemic. The Philippines in my opinion is in desperate need of multiple railway networks around the country. While Jeeps, Tricycles, and Buses do the job just fine for many, having a train system would be beneficial to many. Traffic is one of the biggest issues that we are facing right now, and building more roads are not going to cut it in many parts of the country. There's simply too many cars on the road that congests many highways and makes us waste a lot of time. Having a good public railway network can potentially get rid of many cars on the road, resulting in less traffic. Plus it helps connects cities together, increases productivity, and cut travel time by a lot. Imagine a future where you just need to hop on a jeep to the nearest train station in your town, and ride the PNR heading towards your workplace and get there in no time. I hope the government puts a lot of effort into improving it so that the trains can potentially reach higher speeds. Plus, they should also start building more railway networks in many parts of the country, especially the provinces. We still have a long way to go, so let's hope that they continue it.

Having a dedicated line is better. You will not be stuck in traffic. Also a dedicated cargo line will be beneficial especially to farmers who will sell their produce to the city. I hope this will became a reality

Hindi abot to sa Utah ng pink … for example, sick leni.. hanggang relief goods lang talaga yan si leni. Hahaha yung problem at pant Laylayan… di nila ma gets ang need ng mga infrastructures and good transport system. …. Of course utang ito… pero reklamocsila sa utang… hahahaha

Multiple cargo lines or even one cargo line stretching from either ilocos or cagayan to bicol would be a asset to the country. Higher capacity of goods being transported, low transport costs, faster cargo distribution and also environmentally friendly. Plus less traffic on nlex slex

Filipinos are very politically selfish(in which the cia-western colonizers took advantaged) ...the political pride are extremely destructive that they seemed not capable to work as one big organism. They cannot run a system like (railway,) in a very long run.... sadly i knew this because i am filipino

Thats what happens when people are deprived of what should be a normal kind of transportation. Noong panahon ni Late President Marcos, tumatakbo ang tren from north to south. It was very convenient for those who cannot afford bus fare. As a child naranasan kong sumakay. After him, wala na. Mabuti na lang may dumating na isang Probinsyanong Duterte na nagpabago ng lahat. Ngayon, parang ignorante ang mga tao. Lahat gusto maranasang sumakay. Di ba nakakaiyak? Dapat yan, hindi nawala. Hopefully, maipagpapatuloy yan ng kasalukuyang gobyerno at mga susunod pa. Papunta na tayo sa pag unlad. Wala ng makakapigil. Maraming salamat Tatay Digong that you came along when we needed a leader to lead us to a better future! Dami mong bashers pero natalo sila kasi mas madaming nagmamahal sa iyo. Hanggang pag alis mo sa pwesto, ang taas pa din ng rating mo!

Thank you for sharing your childhood experience about the PNR train. Yes malaking tulong talaga na sanga sanga un linya natin ng tren lalo sa maynila. Sa ngayon nagbabalyahan na ulit un mga tao sa bus plus matatraffic ka pa. Eto un bentahe ng tren hindi ka matatraffic. Imagine kung tiga Lucena ka then sa maynila ka magwowork tapos 1hr lang biyahe mo sa tren.

I think The Philippines should form a cooperation either with Japan or Indonesia in regard of railways system. Japan have world class railways system and highly capable railways specialists while Indonesia is a country who once experienced the same problem the Philippines are facing today, and the fact Indonesia is "the new kid on the block" of the railway business perhaps they can offer discount too, lol 😃😃

philippines already do a cooperation with Indonesia, they use Indonesian train including the locomotive for PNR, the train on this one is made by indonesia, also there’s already aggrement between id & ph govt about railways reactivation in ph

Hi philippines brother.. I think Philippines gorverment should develop the train railways system as soos as possible.. In my country indonesia, we already developed this since 2000. We use app for booking and payment we call KAI Access, one application for train reservation and payment, so in station we just show the QR and the staff will scan the QR and give permit to enter the station. Indonesia also developing the railways system and developed by PT LEN industry. Since we learn and study with cooporation between japan and indonesia now our system already developed and we can export the train sistem. Indonesia also developing bullet train cooporation with china for jakarta to bandung, in the future we hope we can develop bullet train it self. Keep learning and develop.. Semangat from indonesia

Thank you Indonesia brother. We are currently resetting the process of getting the budget for the needed improvisation as the previous agreement unfortunately got cancelled. We will have to wait for years for this line to handle longer services.

It's great to see people's reception to the train service! They seem to enjoy the ride and overall service. I hope this improvement will encourage the Philippine Government to invest more on railway system and PNR to keep pushing to improve its services up to be profitable. I also hope public's perspective about rail travel will improve and they will more willing to take the train! :D Watching this video reminds me a lot of the old days of my country's railway system. It was a bleak period and the system was in the brink of collapse. However, with small but real improvements, the system comes back strong. PNR still have a long way and many opportunities. Just like my country's railway system back then, if they take the right way, the system will be the pride of nation Greetings from Indonesia, I hope you guys like the train :D

All stations should be modernised. PNR seems “alanganin” sa funds to really upgrade all the stations to be world class. People are so excited with the new coaches. So far “dugyot class” pa ang stations at rail tracks. The Western tourists will certainly scratch their heads seeing these “unsafe structures”.

We still have a very long way to go on the PNR south side but the north side (North-South Commuter Railway Phase 1) is now on the way to completion and it will be a modern train line.

Ito talaga mahirap sa Filipino. Yung gustong lahat mauna, isip kasi nila maliit na bagay lang kaya ok lang huwag sumunod sa patakaran. Then yung maraming government employees naman, mahina o walang common sense. Kahit saan, iipunin ang tao then hindi naman kayang kontrolin. E kung bawat darating ay pagbibilhan na ng ticket, e di malalaman agad ang dami at wala pang singitan at ganyang biglang kumpulan ng tao. Dahil alam na kung ilan ang bilang ng pasahero dahil sa ticket, iwas ganyan at mauuna talaga ang nauna at kung hindi kasya sa susunod na ang mga nahuli. TSK! Pinoy talaga!

Naalala ko way back 1992 PNR FTI to ESPANYA ang byahe ko.. normal na yang ganyang sistema..hehe. Sana makasakay ulit ako probinsya naman. After 30 years.tanda ko na pala.

Traveling to Manila from Bicol was easy. by train.It was a cheaper and there were a few choices for convenience.I used to take the sleeper couch and woke up in the early morning for a cup of coffee and a few hours of sightseeing.Wish to take the train again for a trip sometime soon.

The train 🚆 is much better looking than the subway here in NYC. The only problem is no vending machines to buy the tickets. But it’s great helps for the commuters. Mabuhay ka pilipinas.

The train ride became a tourism route for most of the locals of Lucena, Tayabas, Sariaya, to San Pablo and the other towns and cities nearby the railway stations. Some and most have not experienced riding the train in their lives yet. It was their first time experience. They are having a fun ride with their families and relatives, and for the children to experience rding the train. Unless you have been commuting the LRT and MRT trains of Manila, train commute is nothing new. These commuters only came there to experience and enjoy the view ride - Mount Banahaw voew, rice fields and coconut plantation view. It is a whole new experience. Public commute via San pablo to Lucena is via jeepneys and buses only. So the re-introduction of the public train commute is new for most of us from the province of Quezon and Laguna, especially GenX to the Gen Z’s. There is Lack of planning and management for those leading the train stations. Im sure funding is the problem again. So goodluck and we hope that the improvement will be seen and will be supported by the national and local government.

PNR should not only activate lines and provide fleets, but also build modern payment systems such as cashless cards with automatic gates.

We'll see in a couple of months. Philippines have multiple train projects now running simultaneously and I have no idea which of them got highest priority.

@@KindnessCat Looking at the history of the rail revolution in my country, you can see that in 2010 the trains in Indonesia were still like Bangladesh, but 2 years later they changed completely to be like developed countries. What can be seen is that the 2 years of the revolution were focused on fixing the management system starting from HR, Finance, Maintenance, even Technology. For 2 years there have been no additional lines and no procurement of train units at all. But those 2 years saw changes starting from the ticketing system until customer service. After the new train system began to run smoothly while continuing to improve, then there were additional routes and fleets. Wow that was fast improvement. Looks achievable here. It just needs to be made the highest priority here in the Philippines. PNR remained stuck in terms of progress and if they make a significant improvement like proper management, faster trains, modern facilities, etc., they can create a decent train system that can match other neighboring Southeast Asian nations. I hope I can visit Indonesia to experience the train system there.

The ticketing system should be modernized/digitized because it is so chaotic. 2022 na ho at outdated na ang over-the-counter na sistema. Ito ang dapat mabago sa Pilipinas. Basta you’re utilizing government, services expect very long lines. From pagkuha ng lisensya, pagkuha ng permit, to registering for everything, puro mahahabang pila ang dadatnan mo. It’s time for a modernized and more efficient delivery of government services lalo na’t densely populated tayo kaya dapat masolusyunan na yang pila-pila na yan.

There is only one train going back and forth and it makes a trip 4 times everyday. It's a single track setup here.

Great job PNR!!! Kudos To DU30 administration!!! Way better than the old PNR Trains!… Pero marami pa rin kailangan ayusin! Specially lagyan ng bakod/ fence ang railtracks for safety reasons… Hindi lang para sa travellers, But also for the locals safety & protection. And dagdagAn tlaga na marami pang trains para Ma- decongest ang traffic!! And keep it clean & safe always! Godspeed!!! 👏🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭👍🫶

PNR should team up with town leaders where train stations are located for improvement of train stations and also safety. Just my two cents. The management should have implemented some rules. Look at the Chaos.... Trains should be also quiet just like the MRT And LRT lines to all passengers we are also expecting that cleanliness will be maintained

sa Management, lagyan nyo ng bakal na railings para sa pila para sumsunod ang mga tao sa pila, wag ganyan barabara ang pila.Attn DOTR, ano ba naman yan, ayusin yan, lagyan ng railings ng maayos, asap! Puro gasgas na ang mga bintana kailangan ang widening para less maintenance ng bagon at for the safety ng mga tao na nakatira sa baybay gilid at May namamato pa na dapat hinuhuli yun at ikulong.Thank god operational na ulit ang PNR trains malaking tulong para sa mga commuters.❤️🇵🇭

maraming pang improvements na kailangan lalo na yung Lucena Station. bangketa lang halos eh. hirap niyan pag maulan. Mas maganda sana kung yung line eh from Lucena to Manila na rin kasi malaking tulong yun sa mga employees dito sa Quezon at Laguna na karamihan nagwowork sa NCR. Actually napansin ko rin kahapon na konti ang pasahero sa Lucena. possible reasons: 1) Lucena to San Pablo lang ang biyahe.. halos 1 hr and 30 minutes inaabot ng tren. Sa bus nasa 1hr lang yan. 2) Kahit mas mura ang tren compared sa bus, taga city proper lng ng lucena rin makakatipid ng pera at oras kasi ang station nasa may Brgy Cotta pa. If taga Gulang gulang ka or Iyam, mas okay abang ka na lng bus haha.. Pero if di ka ngmamadali, tren is okay. 3) Konti lang din oras ng biyahe, 4 na biyahe lang sa isang araw tapos 4 na oras pa ang pagitan. Note: Maganda yung project, pero mas mapapakinabangan yan ng masa kung derecho hanggang Manila ang biyahe. Laking tulong niya sa mga empleyado.

Good observation po. May special trip na madadagdag if ever may Manila to Lucena line na. Sobrang tagal nun kung hihintuan lahat ng train stations in between. Kumbaga un mga high volume areas lang un hihintuan eg. Lucena, San Pablo, Los Banos, Calamba, etc.
