Here are 5 of my favorite Big Ideas from "Rethinking Narcissism" by Dr. Craig Malkin. Hope you enjoy!
Dr. Craig Malkin is an author, clinical psychologist, and Instructor of Psychology for Harvard Medical School. He’s also one of the world’s leading authorities on the science of narcissism. In this book, he shares “The bad-and surprising good-about feeling special.” The short story? Narcissism is a lot more nuanced than we might have been led to believe. Big Ideas we explore: the Myth of Narcissus, the Spectrum of Narcissism, healthy narcissism (no, that isn’t an oxymoron), how to bring it forth in our lives, and the passionate life (passion + compassion = magic!).

Malkin has a really cool test in the book to help us get a sense of where we land on the spectrum. The Narcissism Test is available online here: www.drcraigmalkin.com/the-narcissism-test

Wow great video! Can’t wait to check out his book. It’s nice to see this perspective on narcissism instead of the demonizing view of narcissism that we typically hear now

Well done. I had a problem with 'narcissism' being at the cenre of the scale (less than 7 or 8) as I understand it and use it in my practice but to each his (her) own. I would use the words 'ideal ego' for number 5 on the scale. I really enjoy your synopsis of various works. Thank you very much. jwl

How do I know I fall into the worst of the categories? Because All I took from this is that I have to become someone I'm not in order to be a good person.

Everybody has something that if they pursue the thing they would be a master of it. But today any sign of speciality is judged as narcissism. People will tell you that you have too much self confidence, but maybe you have the right to be that confident simply because of your efforts. It is certainly better than faking it like a bravado.

an echoist seems like someone who would be a tribal'est, someone who joins a tribe and always follows the tribes values, vs an individual. Tribalism is a big deal, maybe that's not the best word for it, more like social conditioning or something.. anyone have any thoughts on that subject?
