They didn't work. Liverpool let spurs keep the ball. they didn't care once they took the lead as they know they can keep a clean sheet. Credit to spurs for trying though to break them down. I can only recall 2 clear cut chances from inside the box. The rest were long range or weak foot to force error. You got to see it as a tactic of the other team once they had control. If they didn't them Liverpool would need the ball to score or wait for a set piece. You look at the preparations both managers did. the training match Liverpool played and the relaxed approach from spurs. My opinion is spurs got it right. Each time Liverpool do this training or go on holiday they are tired and the game is slow. Spurs ended the season poorly but looked fresh for the final. Poch trusted his players. That's why I respect him

well, you re human being, so you can see how the tatics worked. in many cases, it was players fault. But no putting Lucas Moura instead of Deli Alli and Half of a Harry Kane makes a lot of difference, you can see in the second half, Liverpool got better when Origi takes the place of Firmino. And tottenham even better.

Planning and executing are 2 different things, if it was only about planning then you wouldn't need good players just good managers

What chances

It's only a nominal 4-3-3. In practice it's much more flexible as firmino has a wide latitude to roam the pitch to pick up the ball and link up play. In addition the attacking width usually comes from the fullbacks not the wings while to two 8's usually drop back to cover the flanks. It can also shift seamlessly into a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-4-2 diamond.

herrdoktorprofessor my bad. I didn’t state what system. I’m talking about the pressing system. This match just proved to me that the kryptonite to Klopp’s pressing system so far is to build up through the wings and also the pitch size. Again, the 4-3-3 system imo without the ball on a big pitch is a problem.

Problem is, Klopp struggles to improve his system as he doesn't have enough squad depth. This transfer window he needs to make some quality signings and bring a CAM player (in my opinion) in order to have more formation options. Unfortunately, most of Liverpool's bench players aren't nearly as good enough as the one's on the starting eleven (with a couple of exceptions), so he lacks the impact subs to change the game or improve his system.

Periklis Maniatis I hope we get a playmaker and work on our build up play through the middle since we are already good thru the flanks. But he needs to work on a new formation when playing on a bigger pitch.

@Essence Wolf True, what I am saying though is that the quality gap between our starting eleven and bench players is massive. Most of the big European teams don't have such a big ''quality gap'' between their starting eleven and bench players. We need to improve our rotation team a lot If we want to challenge for more than one trophy next season. Especially If we take into account that other teams in the premier league will also improve(and If we want to do one place better and beat man city in the premier league).
