On the suggestion of a comment on my original Pocket Hose Brass Bullet review, I put the hose outside under pressure to see what happens. The results were not good!
Just for fun, I decided to put a few more things out in the Las Vegas heat to see what happened to them.

Also I find it very rare to find someone who does product reviews without making it boring, but you are one that succeded. I found the 5-10 vids of yours I watched entertaining even laughing at some parts. So good job and keep makin more great reviews

HA HA I just had a flashback to when I was a kid in South Florida. In the summer we would get bored and put things out on the sidewalk and watch them melt. It got so hot one summer that we went out wearing our flip-flops. Within 10 minutes of being outside they had scorch marks on the bottom of them and then within about 20 minutes they started melting on our feet.

Hello James! Thanks for the extras in this video. Very nice and interesting. I do wonder why/how the record got soft at first then harden bk up. That heat polished off that candle, the soap held up pretty well thought that would have melted quickly as the candle did. Thanks again for the As Seen On TV videos.

I have had two pocket hoses. The first one was free and had plastic couplings. It worked good one summer, but l left it out during the NE winter and the spigot screw on part snapped off. So l got the brass one this time and l brought it in for the winter. In my experience, any hose will start to have leaking problems when left under pressure for a long period or if left out in extreme temps hot or cold. The benefits of the hose vs a regular garden hose as far as it being lightweight and easy to move around with and roll up neatly, far exceed the negatives in my opinion.

I appreciate the review. My pocket hose has lasted 4 years with no issues so far but I don't leave it outside after I am done with it. I do have a metal hose as well that is always connected to the back of the house that is used for but for those quick clean up jobs, the pocket hose works great for me. So Far..... I am curious how the pocket hose would hold up if it were stored in a work trailer or a truck job box as those get pretty hot inside them as well.

I think the packaging said something about storing it indoors when not in use. My experience with hoses of this type relate more to the number of expand/contract cycles, and that they aren't very durable. They last a couple of years and then start to leak.

I wish I would have seen these reviews before I bought my pocket hose brass bullet. I have 2 complaints: 1. The package says it is 50 ft but it was only 46 ft and came up a bit short to water plants. 2. After only using it for 10 min per day for 1 week it developed a pin hole leak right in the middle which will eventually become a failure point.

Frustrating! I think zero-g is slightly stronger hose but there're tons of reviewers saying their zero-g burst, many showing photos of it. You have to be extremely careful with all these hoses or be a lucky person. Keep them cool in shade while not used & don't keep it under full pressure too long. Otherwise just buy $120 heavy duty professional rubber hose. Pocket Hose is only expanding hose I know that uses rubber. Toxic reports show over half dozen different toxic chemicals at unacceptable levels from other hoses. Only safe materials are rubber & polyurethane. That excludes the zero-g. Pocket Hose is rubber inside, albeit thin.

Ok. So I purchased the Silver Bullet pocket hose. Unfortunately, you really can not leave it out in the sun. Both of mine sprouted multiple holes. Not happy but, as I just learned, the instructions say to keep it inside. I left it out all winter and it worked fine up until a couple of days ago when the temperature soared to 95 degrees. Both hoses were on the ground outside and both failed.

I live in LA. The valley where it does get cooking in the Summer months. Bought my first Bullet Hose and within 2 weeks it leaked. They begrudgingly replaced it with another which did the same leaking after 3 weeks. I didn't want to detach/reattach after every use so I took my chances w the hot weather thinking maybe I'll get at least a few months out of it. The point of switching to the lightweight expandable hose was to have less of a twisted nuisance the heavy duty hose created in the small back space. It works well in that regard but for me, having to detach and reattach every single day to water a couple plants seems to be a bigger nuisance. If you don't mind that then I guess this hose can last longer...but leaving it outside exposed to heat (without water pressure) destroys it quickly.

Living in Florida, I've burned thru a number of these type of hoses. Normally it lives in a ceramic pot in the shade most of the day. This latest incarnation lasted the shortest amount of time, approximately 2 weeks. While in use it burst - not unlike the manor that yours did. Fortunately BB&B has an extremely liberal return policy. Hold on to the plastic package and the receipt and they will exchange it. Note: it's unlikely you will ever actually get the hose back into the package, but at least you tried.

Heh yeah there is no way to get the hose back in the packaging. I was starting to think THIS was the Pocket Hose that would work. I don't think an hour in the heat is an unfair test, nor should destroy a hose.

This hose is an epic fail even when it's not in the direct sun and that much heat. I live by Savannah GA and, like most people, I leave my hose hooked up to the faucet all the time. Obviously I don't leave the water on but it sits out. It's in the shade most of the day. I've had it maybe a year... maybe.... and not much to water until spring. Even last fall it was leaking at both ends and not just a tiny trickle. I put a different attachment on the end but the leak isn't even at that attachment... it's where the hose attaches to the yellow end of the hose. My attachment works great. The hose also has a big leak at the faucet. Its garbage.

I wonder how it would fare being in the sun not under pressure, or with water flowing through it. I'd imagine it would be a different story. There are collapsible hoses that have different color sheaths as well, perhaps a bright green one (for example) wouldn't absorb as much heat as that black one.

The metal hoses will likely rust in the heat. Heat causes oxidation even in some stainless steels, which is why stainless BBQs end up rusting. I don't know if 110/140 in direct sun would be enough, but it could be.

I'm from the mideast where even your backyard of concrete and gravel would be filled with weeds the first summer without a gallon of Roundup! Hmmm, maybe I'm a little jealous - lol! Well, not when I look at that thermometer. Except that we have humidity. Once its over 80-85 degrees, all you have to do is THINK to break a sweat :x(

Hey da Bob. I just got back from two trips to the Midwest and it's so different there. I'm not a humid 85 is any better than our dry 110! We get weeds in the Spring, but they mostly die off in the Summer. I did a plain rock yard because I hate doing yard work and it's a lot to keep up a yard here. I've started to think that I need to do more back there!

I know this is old, but I think the packaging should say that you have to keep it indoors when not in use. Water heating up probably caused the retractable material to expand. Along with the constant water pressure, it burst at the side. I would have probably done ok with the water running, but you would be wasting a lot of water finding out.

Not to make any negative assumptions about your dogs' behaviors, but can we be certain neither of them got out to the hose nozzle and accidentally bit it, causing the tear? I couldn't tell if they were both kept in the fence--or are just so well behaved that would be unthinkable. 😉

That's a good question. I leave the metal hoses out there with them on purpose to test durability. I didn't leave the dogs out there when I was testing this hose, and I always brought it inside when not in use. I'm confident they weren't a factor.
