I just wanted to thank you for speaking so clearly! I am deaf and while closed captions are usually very necessary for me, when I am watching a demonstration, they get in the way. I am so grateful that I didn't need to use the captions, for the first time ever in my entire life! This literally has never happened, so THANK YOU for being awesome!!

Michelle, I love this video!! I am definitely sharing this video with my teacher friends as soon as I finish writing this!! Love watching your videos from my patio on Sunday mornings when the weather is perfect!!Your tips and strategies are always spot on!! The idea of copying and pasting right over the original (to give you multiple options) is so smart! I of course love the UNDO button; it is a teacher’s best friend. I have had to use it more times than I want to admit.

Thank you for the time you take to make these videos! Much Appreciated! I love the copy and paste tip. I made a chore chart for my daughter and I had all the Xs she needed in columns and rows on the side of the slide. I just went back and aligned them to be on top of each other and place the stack of Xs on the slide. Thank you for that awesome tip!

My first grader and I have been enjoying our virtual curriculum here in Middle Tennessee! As his educational coach working with his teacher remotely (both synchronously and asynchronously), I have been trying to find fun and easy ways to present his assignments without the use of a printer. His teacher frequently sends along some of the assignments via email as attachments (.jpg and/or .pdf). Being that we do not have a printer in our home, I have been trying to come up with paperless solutions. Being a lover of Google Slides, I knew it would work in translating many of these printable document-based assignments into paperless assignments, but you took what I already knew to the next level! I already had the knowledge of "locking" certain aspects by making them the slides' background, but your copy and place multiples of the drag-able manipulative aspects was exactly what I needed! Thank you so much for posting this! I'll share it along to my son's teacher and see if I can help him make some of these assignments easier paperless-friendly learning experiences!

In Google Classroom, choose the option to Make a Copy for each student when you create the Assignment. Then when the kids finish the assignment, they go back to the Assignment *within Google Classroom*, and that's where they Turn it In. The Turn In button doesn't appear on the actual Slides deck once the kids have their own copy. It will only be on the Assignment in Classroom.

I'm going to try using Doctopus to share out copies to each individual student. This is an Add-On in Google Sheets. To use it you begin in a Google Sheet. Manage Add-Ons and go from there. You will enter each student's name and email. Once you build a roster, you can use it again and again. After the Slide Set is distributed, you as the teacher can control their access and look at each student's work. I generally use this for essays, but I want to try it for sorting activities. As for turning it in, they could take a screen shot and turn in the photo if it is a one page activity. For multiple slides, they might have to save as a PDF or video before submitting to our LMS. (Not using G. Classroom)

Yes, you assign the slide as a "copy for each student" and check manually

In Google Classroom, click on "create assignment", then click "add", select Google Drive to find the activity that you just created, then to the right of the title, click "make a copy for each student" then click "assign". For a visual of these steps, go to this video and start it at 10:20. Hope this helps! :-)

Is there a way to keep them from resizing the items they are dragging? Can the shaped be locked in size etc?

You can't lock the shapes, images, or text boxes in Google Slides. Students will still be able to move and edit them, even accidentally. Hopefully one day Google will make that feature possible.

I believe, if memory serves me correct, you assign this through Google Classroom and you will select "make a copy for each student" when you assign it. Then each student will have a copy of this in their Drive that they can complete and "turn in" to Classroom.
@isabellesunn2151
@isabellesunn2151 4 жыл бұрын
Angi Yowell so that means they have to leave the classroom assignment and go look for it in their Drive to get the copy of the slides? Because I know the one I assign to them (and yes I have given them each a copy) doesn’t work/move. I tried it as one of my students who was doing all the assignments.

@@isabellesunn2151 The kids don't have to leave Google Classroom and go look for the Slides assignment in their Drive. It's right there on the Assignment in Google Classroom. They click on it and open it up and then they have their own copy. I assign Slides projects via Google Classroom all the time. I always choose the option to Make a Copy for each student. I've never had a problem with students being able to move the movable objects within them.

Mrs. Grimes yes I know how to do that but the children who were doing the assignments on an iPad said the active was not interactive- they couldn’t click and drag the pictures or the words . Most ended up making it a matching activity. It was fine but I just want to know if there is another way because sometimes when they drew lines to match it was a disaster!

Hi Michelle, When a student drags something, do the other students see the items that were dropped? Do you send out individual GoogleSlides to each individual student? Tip: rather importing an image as the background, you can use View -> Master -> Upload Image That will "lock" the image without degrading the quality.
@mrs.grimes987

Create an Assignment and add your Slides deck to it in Google Classroom, and choose the option to Make a Copy for each student. They will all get their own copy that they will be able to edit. Then they can go back to GC and turn it in when they're done. Students will only be able to see what they've done to their own copy.

@@mrs.grimes987 Ah, does that only work in Google Classroom? We have Canvas so I am not sure if I would be able to replicate that.
@mrs.grimes987
@mrs.grimes987 3 жыл бұрын
@@traciebosket I've not use Canvas so I'm not sure. But if you create a Google Slides deck , you can create a Shareable Link. After you do that, copy the link and paste it somewhere. Then change the very end of the link, beginning with the word 'edit' and anything that follows it to 'copy' (but don't use the apostrophes). I'm guessing you can share links in Canvas? If so, you just share the link you edited. When students visit it, it will force them to make a copy. They would have to be logged into Google first though. That's the only other way I can think of that you can easily get copies to all your students via Canvas.
