I can't even begin to describe how truly phenomenal you are!! I've been wanting to post a comment since I started following you in March. You have helped me tremendously with teaching online. You have the most wonderful rapport with your audience, your videos are incredibly well made AND helpful. You have a real gift obviously as a teacher, and then, relaying that to those of us in education through your videos. I'm very grateful for what you have done to help us, educators. Thank you so much for EVERYTHING!!

omg thank you so much!!!!! I did online teaching years ago in homeschooling but things have changed so much. I am retired and a supply teacher now and just got a six week assignment. Having never used google classroom or google meets the last two weeks have been long and tiring...... thank goodness my grade fours are very helpful and they even present their screens to show me what they see on their end. Today is Ketchup day for me! So learning about the rubric creating and the review button will definitely help. I wish I had seen your google form video the other day. I did manage to create my own and actually had my students upload their work, which their regular teacher thought they might not be able to do. Thanks again

Another thing I do when grading google slides - I use a png of a red X with a transparent background to mark incorrect answers. (I just keep it copied so I can just quickly paste it.) Then, it is easy to scan the slides in the side panel and count up the red X's to get the grade. (I teach 8th grade science.)

I have taught public school for 30+ years. Constantly upgrading and changing to make things relevant for class and students was so challenging. If I were teaching today , I would have to PAY you for your wonderful ,detailed and just magnificent classroom tips for teachers. You are just amazing as a young teacher. To all other new and veteran teachers, try to emulate or do some of these ideas. If you can't do it all ( as everyone is different) do what you can to enhance the learning of the students. I can't imagine any student getting bored in such an elightening class with a pocket full of new ideas and consistent learning segments. I am learning from you every time I enter your you tube. It helps me enhance my real estate teaching. It's not just elementary. Thanks a bunch. Trust me when I say, you are such a help to all educators. Please keep doing what you are doing and you do it with such a vibrant attitude and lovely smile. You love your work.

I also like to use "View Your Work" in the Student's Classwork section. It shows the assignments, the missing work, and returned graded work. I can have parent/student/teacher conferences with families to show my students' progress. On our Wednesday's (which is our intervention day) I can do a check for missing work with my students. I let them present their screen to me, then select missing work, have them click on the missing assignment and pull up a tab for each missing assignment. That way when they work asynchronously their tabs are up and they can work to finish their assignments. Presenting their work is done in my other class, one at a time. I'm able to monitor the class while I have my assignment checks individually. I can answer questions of my students who are having difficulty with completing assignments. Whew! Your awesome Mrs. Emerson! I look forward to your videos and refer them to my coworkers on the regular! You know your stuff and I so appreciate your expertise! Thank you and keep striving!

Thanks for this! I really liked Tip #2 and the comments you chose to use with students, especially where you let them know whether the assignment is done or if they should go back to make changes. Here were the comments Michelle Ferré uses with her classes. I plan to borrow and modify slightly for my students. 1. "Great job on this assignment! Thank you for working so hard! This assignment is now complete." 2. "Thank you for working so hard! If you want to improve your grade, you can make changes and resubmit." 3. "I need you to go back and check your work before I can grade this assignment. Resubmit when you are done so I can grade your work!" Thanks again for all these time saving tips!

Awesome video! Great tips! I was happy to see that I already do several of these things. I really need to start using the rubrics. I didn't know about the drop down to return multiple students' work. I'll definitely be using that one. I like the idea of "ketchup & pickles". I remember doing something similar before we went virtual. I really like your setup of this. Do you have some kind of fun activity for the other kids to do who don't have missing work? Any suggestions for incorporating this with middle schoolers?

Thanks Michelle! I’m relatively competent using Google for education products but I still learn at least one thing that makes watching worthwhile. And you and your positive pants are inspiring. I have what may seem like a strange question but I noticed that your assignment list seems to have colored dots at the beginning. Can you explain how and why you do that? Asking for a “friend” who is also into color coding for organization. 😊

Thank you - this is just the video that I needed! When do you choose to assign graded comments vs ungraded assignments?
@christinec112
@christinec112 3 жыл бұрын
Elaine Herzog If I have a reading assignment, where the students just have to read an article, I’ll make that ungraded, but the students need to “turn in” so I know they read the passage. Usually I’ll make a separate companion assignment like a quiz or graphic organizer on a Google doc to then assess if they actually absorbed the reading. Then, that assignment gets a grade.
