OK, I'm SO EXCITED about the dropdown!! I love making to do lists and checklists to keep track of projects, and I've been color coding by highlighting to show the status of each item on my list. Now I can use dropdowns! This is an update I would never have seen on my own, so I'm very grateful 🙏

Great tips! The email draft Building Block could also be used if you’re collaborating on an email with others. For example, information going out to families from a grade level team. Or, you could even teach your students how to use it if they wanted to email a teacher about a group project. A fun way to teach collaboration on communication!

All in all, a fantastic summation of updates. Bravo! I was saddened, however, to hear that you did not find many of the Sheets updates interesting or useful for teachers. The Timeline feature (found in the Insert menu) has a lot of potential (although I acknowledge that this may not yet have been released when you recorded your video). I also think the new functions that were added, including the ability to create custom functions, are extremely powerful for data-minded teachers (originally announced in August but later delayed until late September). Keep the great videos coming!

Hi Levi! Thanks for sharing your feedback! This video was recorded right as the timeline feature was being released so I didn't have an opportunity to truly experience it before recording this video. As for the custom functions, I do think that's a great feature but I'm not sure if it's something a majority of teachers would need/use. Of course, if you have a different list of updates you think would be helpful, you're always welcome to create your own video to share!

Thank you for another informative video! I love that you provide us with this information and take out the guesswork! I do have a Google Sheets question for you. I revamped a district wide form that was in Google Docs and put it in Google Sheets (thank you for your awesome Google Sheets tutorial. I was always so intimidated by Sheets until your series). This form goes out to individuals in Google Classroom as a copy so they can fill it out. Is there any way to protect cells when you make a copy for someone? I feel like there isn't, but I figured if there was a way to do this, you would be the one to ask! Thanks again for all of your hard work and dedication to your fans!

Thank you so much for watching and commenting as always! 🥰 I'm so happy you enjoyed this video! That's a great question... as far as I know, there isn't a way to protect the cell once a copy is made. Only if you provided a view-only link. But, maybe that's something that will change in the future!

@@PocketfulofPrimary Thanks for responding! Yes, I agree that Notion is very "extra" for the most part. I think I am liking it so far as I am student teaching because it's helping me keep track of all the new things I have to learn and keep track of all that I might otherwise forget. The email chip CAN be useful. One example might be that you need to collaborate drafting an email to school parents with your team or principal. In that case so you could start a google doc and add the email chip and share it with your collaborator(s). Then once you are all satisfied that your message is clear you can then use the M icon to send your email to the school parents.

The email drafts are GREAT if you are on a team and often send emails as a group. For example, I'm a Digital Learning Integrationist on a team of 5. It has made it SO much easier for us to collaborate on an email. Classroom teachers may not find this super mind-blowing, but admin and other leadership teams do/will!

Another great video!! I have 2 questions: 1 How can you have a certain font instead of Ariel? I like using Centry Goth but it always goes toAriel. 2, I have a Mac and about a month ago when I turned it on it’s making an awful bell sound. How do you get rid that? I have watched a few videos and can’t get it to stop. Can you help? As always, thank you so much for helping us!!!
@PocketfulofPrimary
@PocketfulofPrimary Жыл бұрын
Hi Heather! Thank you so much for watching! I need a little more clarification for your questions... when you say "have a certain font," do you mean in Google Docs or Google Slides? For Google Docs, you would need to change your default style settings (you can Google to find directions on this if you need them). For Google Slides, there isn't currently a way to set your default font unless you make a copy of a set of slides where you have already set the theme to be the way you want. For your Mac, when is it making a bell sound? You most likely would need to change your sounds in your system preferences but it's hard to say without more information.

I’m looking forward to the Google Practice Sets that are to come out in 2023. There are still some features I miss: being able to set a timer in Google Forms. (I know there’s a way to get it, but I work at a public school in Sweden, and my county won’t allow us to install plug-ins onto our computers). A way to create puzzles of an image in Google Slides (once again, saw this as a plug-in, but this time for PowerPoint - that they charged $40 for).
@PocketfulofPrimary
@PocketfulofPrimary Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for watching and commenting Jessika! 🥰 I agree... it would be FANTASTIC if Google added a timer option to Google Forms (or even Google Slides for that matter) without the need for a plug-in.
@missjessilla
@missjessilla Жыл бұрын
@@PocketfulofPrimary Indeed! I’ve seen so many great videos on sites like Nearpod but we’re not allowed to use them due to GDPR. So a way to include timers would be awesome - that way it would be easier to let kids who were absent from class to do their homework check-up or a quick quiz at home.

@@PocketfulofPrimary another feature that would be great to have is to merge document (kind of like you have various spreadsheets in Excel), and before you open a pupil’s document it would be great to see how many pages they’ve written. I would have loved to be able to change the background colour for various pages. I would also like for there to be a way for me to lock detain texts so that the kids can’t change the instructions when I make it so that they have a document each to edit. I’ve had multiple experiences where a kid somehow manages to delete or alter the instructions in a document. Likewise I’d love to be able to lock what font and spacing they’re to use, as well as how many pages/words they’d be able to write (minimum and maximum).
