One of the most talented actors in the Indonesian film industry, Ario Bayu, shares his journey behind the big screen. In addition to his remarkable career in the film industry, he has experienced rejection in almost a thousand casting auditions. He has mostly played roles in Indonesian blockbusters such as Laskar Pelangi, Soekarno, and among many others.
Furthermore, Ario Bayu discusses his new roles as ‘Soeraja’ and the creative process behind them in “Gadis Kretek”, a series adapted from a novel that tells the story of a talented artisan's self-discovery of the kretek industry in Indonesia during the 1960s.
“Gadis Kretek” is out now, watch it only on Netflix.

He's sooo underrated. I rarely praise Indonesian actor but damn his charm in gadis kretek is overflowing. Not to mention his soothing voice. ❤ after seeing this interview, It's just so cool that he's also smart and articulated. Hopefully he'll get more recognition in the future. He definitely need to go international.

Just experienced my first Indonesian movie, and I must say, I was captivated from start to finish by "Cigarette Girl." The stellar directing, rich cultural and traditional storyline, impressive acting, breathtaking cinematography, and the stunning lead actress and actor made it an absolute delight to watch all five episodes. Can't wait to explore more Indonesian cinema!
