I remember when my mum agreed to have a satellite dish on our house here in the UK. We were late adopters due to the cost. But I remember vividly when the guy that installed it switched on MTV. It was the pan European channel from the early 90s. It opened me to the new euro pop, dance music that we rarely heard here in the uk. I become a fan of lots of the German and Italian dance tracks, captain Hollywood, Culture Beat , Dr Alban, etc. Who remembers Ray Cokes and his daily early evening show? Most wanted? Takes me back to good times. Davina McCall was first on MtV

I had the same situation!) Well, almost the same! The fact is that a satellite dish in Russia in the early 90s cost a lot of money, much more than in the UK, i think. But, fortunately there were guys who received the signal from the satellite and broadcast it to everyone within the next 20-30 kilometers, so everyone could watch this channel. MTV from UK was mega-popular here! And of course I remember Ray Cokes, his Cockney accent (I believe it's cockney)) and his show Most Wanted!)) It was nice and very unusual when he pronounced face like [fais], table like [taibl])))) We had a lot of fun and we really enjoyed it!)) MTV at that time was an example of true music tv channel. That's how it should be! Kristiane Backer was my favorite vj. BTW you can watch the extended version. Link in description.

Yeah used to love watching MTV's Most Wanted with Ray Cokes when I got in from school. Used to like Eddie Temple Morris too. Russell Brand was class presenting MTV's Dance Floor chart as well!

I wish MTV was still like this. Reminds me of the times with my daughter (1995) back and forth to lessons, school at home. Im an electronic MTV 80's parent. I am thankful I exposed her to all the great music! Not much good music today sadly.

Me too. We Croats also had similar performers at that time, just like you. We followed your trends and those were crazy times for us too. Maybe not as many as you, because you are still a big country, but there were a lot more of them in Croatia than now. You continued on, and we literally collapsed. We no longer have such a music scene as we used to.

MTV Europe was a really special channel. It created this sense of cross-continental interconnectedness and made me wonder about the people across Europe who were also tuning in, I got to see some of the music and culture they had which I would never have been exposed to otherwise.

MTV was always my go to channel, I was so excited for it when I got a satellite dish in 1993, the channel had real personality with all the Vj's presenting the shows, really used to love the themed weekends focusing on 1 particular band or singer the whole vibe of it was awesome. I Cannot believe how rubbish it is now.

The 90s, the time between the ages of 15 and 25. I'm from Germany and always liked watching MTV. In Germany today we have a station called Delux Music that plays calls from jazz to pop, including 80s and 90s shows.

In the U.S., we still have the MTV from '81 but it has spread into MTV, VH1, MTV2, MTV LIve but only MTV live has regular videos while the original 2 have youth oriented shows. Strangely, VH1 was created to continue the video tradition of MTV but it is almost completely non music now. MTV On Demand basically makes it all available at any time. The other big ones are Revolt and Axis which mostly plays urban and concerts.

Every summer in August in Bulgaria, in the city of Burgas, there is the "Spice Music Festival", where many of those bands come and play live. Yes, they are older. Yes, we are older. But the show is EPIC. I Love The 90's!

Родился на музыке 90-х... И с годами все больше убеждаюсь, что современная музыка достигла своего пика именно в 90-х..... здесь тебе и рок - Нирвана, Ганзен роуз, бон джови, металлика, панк (оффспринг, грин дэй),... Рэп - Ванила айс, Хамер и др, ПОПСА - Хьюстон, Джексон, мальчуковые группы, Спирс, Агилера, Лопес, Шансон - Круг. Ну и русский рок - Шуты, Земфира, ДДТ, Нау, Би-2 и многие, многие другие свою лучшую музыку сделали именно в 90-х. И конечно евродэнс и русская попса все лучше 90-е!

It was really great time late 1980s early 1990s! It was the time when ppl experimented with music lyrics, style. No rude words, not primitive music, almost no ugly tattoos and piercing. Beautiful music, good lyrics and pleasant style. Remember the 90s.

Тоже так считаю. Примерно начало 2000х стало отсчетом в пропасть. И деградировало все постепенно, теперь же даже непонятно что за хиты, есть ли хиты. Какие-то обрывки песен в соц. сетях вирусятся и то такое... Просто шлак. Просто запомним то время, круто что повезло жить тогда.

Wow, "get away" ....I just stumbled across this. I haven't heard this since I was probably 13 or 14 and had completely forgotten about this song. It's like someone opened a door and I didn't even know what was behind it, but now I recognize it all. I am 43 now and can still sing along as if no time had passed. Crazy. Nearly 30 years.

The music of the 90s was so imaginative, every week new albums of every genre came out My high school work experience was at TowerRecords in Picadilly Circus, while I was there I would go around checking the chart album releases the choice was mad. Then the music was limited in availability, now the opposite, but the originality is sadly gone..

Сколько смотрю всякие музыкальные подборки, это самый крутой, нет - наикрутейший сборник! МTV, каким мы его помним! Основное число клипов - это 92 - 94 гг. Тогда еще кабельное телевиденье было, и именно там я, будучи подростком, впитывал на всю жизнь этот музон. Очень круто, спасибо! Единственное чего нет, и пожалуй никак не вернуть. Это цветовосприятие. То ли дело в кинескопах японских теликов, то ли в трансляции с видеокассет, но цвета этих клипов были более насыщенные и контрастные.

Это точно, я в те времена жила на телике и в мтв была вся, прилипну к экрану и фиг оттшишь, залипала конкретно. Мтв это нечто, клипы огонь, ведущие, каждый с харизмой, каждый по-своему хорош, вот были времена. Сейчас смотрю эту подборку,и думаю вот таланты были😊😊😊😊😊

Да нет, есть музыка современная, которую скачиваю и слушаю, но что касается чисто популярной, какая-то тоска. Не даром постоянно делают ремиксы на хиты 90-80-ых, потому что что-то создать новое, оригинальное, и чтоб из каждого чайника и утюга лилось, этого давно нет.

I was there on Day 1 for MTV in 1981, watching "Video Killed the Radio Star" live as it started up on our cable channel. By the 1990s, I was in college and too distracted to watch MTV anymore. But, I was still buying tapes and CDs and had some of these songs on repeat.
