Excellent Intro! One point to emphasize for beginners watching this tutorial... In this video, he uses the word "people" several times. While creating the custom post type and meta fields, he says ... "what do we want people to be able to add." Remember, the meta-fields are being created for the wordpress admin interface. The people are admins, authors, editors, and clients, not the website users (visitors, subscribers). I had trouble keeping that straight in my mind when i started.

Dear Sir, I want more videos on Pods and it's use with Elementor , Elementor Pro. I really like your videos. For the 1st time I am using Pods , I was not able to understand in the beginning, but after going through your videos many times, now I am able to understand. But, you have very few videos on Pods for creating custom post types and custom fields. You basically use CPT UI for Custom Post Types and ACF for Custom Fields. PODS give both otions in a single plugin. Please sir, make videos on Pods so that it may help us in creating websites with lots of contents on different topics. Always learning from you. Waiting for your videos. With warm regards, Vivek Kumar

As always, an EXCELLENT video! But one thing this is missing from this (and pretty much EVERY video on customizing Wordpress data) is how to load data into your site, after the PODS or CPT have been set up. It's very rare that you have a website dealing with so little data that you can enter it by hand, one at a time. In most cases, you'll be getting a file maintained by a system elsewhere, and you'll be given an "update" file on a regular basis. Sticking with your example, if this website is a large dealership, you'll probably be getting a CSV file from the inventory department, with say 500 cars every week. Some records will be the same, some will be new, some deleted from previous weeks, and some with changes to price or description. There seems to be no good way to handle this. "Advanced WP Import" chokes with Elementor is installed because of special characters it sees in the Elementor fields. Other importers don't "see" PODS created fields at all. And WP-CLI will simply ignore any fields that are not part of the WP base product. So.... how do you load data to this?
@PietroMalaguti
@PietroMalaguti 4 жыл бұрын
You do it through the backoffice in Wordpress. If you want to do by the frontend then it's another matter. You need some more plugins like PAFE or Advanced Form Field for Elementor
@DogTog
@DogTog 4 жыл бұрын
@@PietroMalaguti Thanks for the reply, but I'm confused by your answer. I'm assuming you mean simply the advanced form fields built into Elementor, since there is no plugin by that name. They only allow you to upload data files to the media library -- they don't process them at all. And I've already purchased PAFE Pro, and there is nothing I see in there about importing data files, although it's possible I missed something because their documentation and video "tutorials" are terrible.

I am having this problem also. I found a plugin that does this, but it is obscure, but let me describe it. What I think you want is to have a Custom Post Type and metafields created, (lets say post type is cars, and meta fields include size, price, color, etc.) and then be able to quickly and automatically generate all the posts from a csv or spreadsheet file. The spreadsheet would have a column for each field including Title, Featured Image, Category, Price, Color, Size, etc. Each spreadsheet row would be the actual data. 1 row = 1 post. Every week you would delete all the Car posts and upload a new batch of posts using the csv file. Because the post visual design is coming from a separate template, generating the posts is all that is needed. Once they are created, the site page would immediately display all the new data. … This is what you mean right? If so… I tried the plugin "WP Ultimate CSV importer" but had trouble with it (as a beginner). kzfaq.info/get/bejne/r81pjZmqr9e2lqM.html … Suggested by Crocoblock customer service: wordpress.org/plugins/wp-all-import/ …. Suggested by a freelance developer i asked: codecanyon.net/item/wordpress-import-export/24035782

Thank you so much Paul C, Pods seems to be a great alternative to ACF + CPTUI. I made some tests thanks to your explanations, only thing is that I have been trying to use the Pods "Website" field type to output an URL, and I cannot find it on the Elementor dynamic Pods Field key, am I doing something wrong? I've checked on the Elementor integration with PODS, and it is indeed indicated to be a supported Custom PODS field.

One question: I followed your tutorial, also adding in some custom taxonomies, but when I try to add these to my single post template and go to add a Custom Pods Field, when I then click on the little spanner icon to select the field I want, I don't get the Settings option which would allow me to do so, only the Advanced option (which is not much use on its own). But I was not able to relate this in elementor as there just was no option, or I just couldn't find it. 1. Is there an option to nicely display files (word, pdf, etc.) like in an image gallery? 2. To be honest, once you get used to the concept of custom post types and custom meta fields, you'll very quickly become comfortable with any of the tools available. If I was to limit myself to one, it would probably be ACF (unless I needed a very specific feature or set of features that are not part of ACF or ACF Pro). I just realized you left out something very important: How do you show an ACF field on an ARCHIVE page? In your example, you only used non-ACF fields on your archive page. But what if you wanted to also show Manufacturer or price on the archive page, which would be a very common need. How would you do that? Oddly, Elementor published a video claiming to be putting PODS fields on an archive page, but they're not -- they're just editing a SINGLE page. How you have an answer that works.

And for any developers reading this: Have you ever been to a serious website directory of ANYTHING that didn't let you see a searchable list of the items with basic details (usually location or price)? This is a big "hole" in the capability of Elementor begging to be fixed with a straightforward solution that did require that I depend on FOUR different plugins from FOUR different companies just to make a basic (non sortable, non-searchable) item list? Give is a plugin that lets us enter a query of a non-Wordpress take, with some basic options like search and sort, and connect the returned fields in a loop that can be styled in Elementor. This would be worth paying big bucks for.

Howdy Mr Paul... , I reckon the MANUFACTURER should've been a TAXONOMY with PARENT MANUFACTURER and Children MODELS, can always be changed globally if changes are made whereas if custom field the every listing would need to be changed individually, like diz: prntscr.com/pugku9.... anywayzzz, only reason I mentioned that is for narrowing down search on frontend for specific model. In the backend of WP with a HUGE list of Manufacturers and Models can be quite lengthy and this plugin can help minimize the full length of the Manufacture Models list making it easier to find what yr looking for really simple: wordpress.org/plugins/taxonomy-filter/

I guess the best way to watch these video is to use a downloader. Since the downloader lets you download in 1080p 30fps. Then watch offline. It sucks but 60fps is useless for tutorial videos in the first place.

It sucks I have to watch your videos in 480p since 60fps doesn't play right on my computer...
