10 of my favorite post-hardcore records.
Edit: KZfaq is having a fit over the song clips, so this video might get canned at any moment. I have filed a dispute on fair use grounds, so we shall see if this survives.

Excellent list, I have almost all of these albums. Here's some more post hardcore masterpieces: For your Special sweetheart by Jawbox, Plays Pretty for Baby by The Nation of Ulysses, Manic Compression by Quicksand, Analphabetapolothology by Cap n Jazz, Good Health by Pretty Girls Makes Graves, Experiments in Expectation by Kill Sadie, Wiretap Scars by Sparta. You definitely covered the best and most important records of the genre. Good job!

Awesome video dude! There's definitely some overlap in our top 10, but here's mine not in order: - At The Drive-In - Relationship Of Command (probably my favorite album of all time, I had to name my band after one of the songs lol) - Glassjaw - Worship And Tribute - The Blood Brothers - ...Burn, Piano Island, Burn - Fugazi - End Hits - Foxy Shazam - The Flamingo Trigger - Shudder To Think - Pony Express Record - Don Caballero - Don Caballero 2 - Slint - Spiderland - Drive Like Jehu - Yank Crime - Bear Vs. Shark - Terrorhawk and since I can't narrow this down, I'll say these are my very honorable mentions: - Fear Before - The Always Open Mouth - Clikatat Ikatowi - Orchestrated And Conducted By - Frodus - And We Washed Our Weapons In The Sea - Thrice - Vheissu - Unwound - Challenge For A Civilized Society - Lowercase - The Going Away Present - Made Out Of Babies - Coward and tons more

Good sample of post-hardcore. You don't see a lot of post-hardcore in the VC, I'll have to check out some of these bands. I'm more partial to the earlier post-hardcore bands like Husker Du, Fugazi, Unwound and Nomeansno. My favorite post-hardcore album is Nomeansno's Wrong. If you're unfamiliar with Nomeansno, they're a little like Fugazi but a little more jazzier and humorous.

Thanks for this great collection of masterpieces and also for your smart guiding tour through the history of post hardcore, that works like a perfect time machine for me!!! ❤ In Refused’s tradition there was an awful band scene in scandinavia, especially JR EWING („Ride Paranoia“) with thier mind blowing energy and RUMBLE IN RHODOS („Intentions“), which I really danced to nights and nights away!!! I guess THRICE crossed a lot of subgenres connected to post hardcore and left their footprints and grew and grew more with nearly every album!!! I love this band for the long and unique journey they made through the genres in a kind of progressive way!!

This is a phenomenal list. All of these albums are amazing. However, if it were my list I'd probably throw The Used's self-titled record in there as well as Finch's Say Hello to Sunshine. The way Bert McCracken could scream perfectly on pitch with The Used and the way Finch went kinda into a prog-post-hardcore direction on Say Hello to Sunshine just make those two albums standouts for me in the post-hardcore scene. For an honourable mention I would definitely have thrown in Everyone's Out to Get Me by Get Scared. It's more modern (it came out in like, 2012, 2013?) and kinda fits into that makeup-wearing, random breakdown scene of post-hardcore that's extremely looked down upon but Get Scared really are a diamond in the rough. There's a lot of shitty bands in that scene (Black Veil Brides, etc) but Get Scared really had a great sound and their first two albums (Everyone's Out to Get Me is their second one) were absolutely amazing. Also, I don't know if you would consider this band post-hardcore but I would also throw Box Car Racer's only album into an honourable mention slot.

htMichael- just found your site and very impressed with your knowledge of classical vinyl labels. You know more than probably 99% of the population, even those interested in classical. I’m sure your classical background in the oboe world has helped. I grew up in the fifties and sixties so Vinyl was always part of my world, though I took a detour for about 20 years when CDs made their appearance. I had quite a large collection and one day was invited to a friend’s house who played vinyl exclusively. That was it for me. I returned to vinyl with a vengeance, ended up with a Rega 25 table and Rogue Integrated tube amp. After some years I decided to get what I thought would be n infinitely better table, Acustic Raven One, much touted in the audiophile world. After a couple of years I decided there wasn’t that great a difference in sound between the two tables. I wasn’t even sure I liked the Raven more. I ended up selling it and buying a Rega RP 6, which I’m delighted with. I may eventuLly move up the Rega line but I’m waiting for the new P8 and 10 to come out. There’s a lot more to say but I just wanted to recommend a great disc to you. I know you said you had not heard any Urania lps. Cisco came out some years ago with a remastered Urania from 1959? With the Kansas City Orchestra.The sound is phenomenal, among the best I’ve heard and I have quite a classical collection including almost all of the Speakers Corner Deccas and Mercuries, Classic Records, ORG, and now from Acoustic Sounds. Also many originals. I supplied a link to Discogs, though not sure it’ll work. You can find it easy enough on Google. Good luck with school. Best, Eric Https://www.discogs.com/Kansas-City-Philharmonic-Prokofiev-Symphonic-Suite-Of-Waltzes-Gypsy-Fantasy-From-Stone-Flower-Ballet/release/4366414

This is second video of yours that I have watched and first time commenting. I've always been leary of the term Post Hardcore but I hated the Post Punk tag. For the most part I considered it all Punk. When Punk started all the bands didn't sound the same. Now people consider the Sex Pistols and The Ramones to be the definitive Punk sound. People now say Patti Smith is not Punk. Television is not Punk but Progressive. Wire is not Punk but Post Punk. They are Punk. I enjoyed the needle drops. The only band I'm familiar with is Fugazi. I consider Fugazi Hardcore. I can hear the difference between these bands and Hardcore but I don't think I'll start using the term Post Hardcore. Enjoyed the video and subscribed. I'll check out some of your other videos as time permits.

I think your right about the term post hardcore.When I was young I would disregard it as punk and people would say "punk is dead" but now that I am older It is a very misleading term. Punk was never and isn't dead, it just evolved.

I listened to manipulator more than any other album by them, I still don't regret it. Hell, I still listen to it now. Fear Before the March of Flames is so good, especially The Always Open Mouth, and Drowning the Old Hag has to be my favorite song from them. Tbh not a huge fan of Alesana, I do think Apology is a great song, but the vast majority of their catalog just doesn't do it for me. Objectively they could be considered post hardcore, but "scene" and "pop" are also labels I would tend to apply to them. They're not really full on "mall-core", but they sort of pointed in that direction which would lead to some cringey bands down the road. This is all just my opinion, but for that specific style of post-harcore, I would rather listen to Silverstein.
@iannolan2979
@iannolan2979 6 жыл бұрын
poetryonplastic fully understandable. I love Silverstein also, and some of Alesanas stuff such as like This Conversation Is Over or The Last Three Letters could point towards the “mall-core” direction. But the way I found that album is kind of funny in retrospect because I was a kid that didn’t really have my own music taste, just listened to what my dad listened to. And I had heard people reference “screamo” so I googled the word screamo and Apology came up. Funny now looking back and finding actual screamo. Nonetheless, love the channel. Keep it up my dude.

Isn't post-hardcore and Emo practically the same thing? I've always heard that emo (emotive hardcore) was born out of post-hardcore in the mid 80's as a subgenre of post-hardcore. Even screamo bands like Saetia and Pg.99 have also been described as post-hardcore. So i'm trying to find the distinction here... I have yet to find a post-hardcore band that HASN'T been labeled as emo, or screamo. What I've learned is... screamo is a subgenre of emo, emo is a subgenre of post-hardcore, and post-hardcore is a subgenre of hardcore punk. Although it seems like all three of those genres are in the same category. Is there really even a real distinction between post-hardcore and emo? Because i literally hear both terms used to describe bands of that style.

As poetry said, there is very often overlap. the way i see it, all subsequent sub genres of hardcore punk are technically post-hardcore (post hardcore = after hardcore, what became of the sound)so even screamo/emo stuff like Spirit of Versailles is kinda PHC. also the way I see it- there are 3 main areas of post hardcore, the 90's stuff, the 00's stuff, and the new watered down stuff that people are calling PHC now. (sleeping with sirens, pierce the veil, etc.)((as much as I really don't want to count it.))

You're completely missing the point of the "Post-Hardcore" label. Refused were a hardcore band in the present tense. No one would have ever dreamed of calling their Victory Records releases "Post-Hardcore" and aside from a few samples and sound bites the style on "Shape of" is a fluid continuation of the "Everlasting" EP. This is frankly insulting! If you look at the LATER Fugazi albums you can begin to grasp how the term originated... as the music became more abstract and harder to classify as "Punk." "Repeater" while great is NOT a "Post-Hardcore" album. "Post-hardcore" was a tongue-in-cheek way to give credit to experimental and mellow indie/emo bands who came from the hardcore scene. Please stop calling modern hardcore bands from the 1990s, 2000s, or whenever "Post-Hardcore". It isn't the same thing!!!

I'm sorry, I will NEVER understand the obsession with At the Drive in...it has always just sounded like hot garbage to me.
