I think it's important to listen to the ideologies he comes out with - the fact that people need to obsess less about technique and plugins and workflows and focus more on just getting tracks out - It doesn't matter if you use the basic EQ with slightly tweaked settings or if you used a £200 plugin. At the end of the day, it's about the result, not the process, and you should get there how YOU want to - not how someone online says you should! :)

+Point Blank Music School haha, you're very right, but I remember seeing far too many of your Masterclass videos where a producer is asked 10 questions about DAWs and plugins and only a few questions about actually making music! I find its very similar in the DJ scene too - people think they need the best gear and tech before they can even start to learn, but its the other way round in most cases. :)

Ben Pearce and Point Blank, thank you. I really appreciate Pearce's honesty and his modesty. It's inspiring to continue to make choons. I like the way he said he doesn't consider himself a really good producer.. He obviously has talent but he knows he has a lot to learn and that's great for him. I wish him all the success. I don't really like House too much, it's great in a club, I'm more Boards Of Canada/Aphex Twin/Kraftwerk but I want to produce House to a fine quality then progress on to more complex stuff. So, this is inspiring. Thanks! :D

To all the people ripping on the guy cause the track is simple, lets see you try better (also, ever heard of minimalism?). Anyone can learn the intricacies of a daw with enough effort, but it's a complete other game diluting that knowledge into producing something that is simple and resonates with people. Pearce obviously has the knack for taking something simple and not making it sound boilerplate, which is very difficult. Anyone can write a simple pop song, not everyone can write a good simple pop song. Same applies to dance music. Lad seems pretty humble as well, and he's right about his point about anyone can do it from his bedroom. This should inspire people, but it seems like a lot of comments have a bit of jealousy about them, obviously confused that their track full of poly rhythms and quarter tones isn't taking the charts . Music isn't something we create it's something that exists in the ether waiting to be plucked out and made concrete by a keen ear. We're the captain of the ship but at the mercy of the seas.

I think he's very honest and very inspiring too.. Knew damn all re mixdown etc..., Noobs like me can learn a lot about MAKING a track as opposed to the tech stuff.. I admire him.. Lots of us could learn from his comments ..'Enjoy yourself' being key.. We all do it for the love of making music as oppressed to being caught up in engineer hell.. Those guys spend years learning their craft, so we can send them stuff to make our tracks sound fire!

I think this video shows that it's very important to have the right people around you, and to have that opening in to the industry. Cause that tracak looks like it was slapped together in 2 hours. It's nice don't get me wrong but it's almost to simple to have the succes it has been getting. No hate, just makes me a little envious cause I can't even get 100 peeps to listen to my stuff.

Great song, been listening to it for a while. It's strange that it sounds so groovy and textured while it's a quite basic project really. Maybe that's why it's such a genius song, the simplicity.

dmfan dmfan Mate, it totally is one of the biggest dance tracks, but I would say from the last decade. Don't get me wrong, I dont even like the track. But this was in the Beatport top 10 for about a year, probably longer. It went platinum in Italy. 4 and a half million plays on KZfaq. It basically gave Ben a career. You can't deny it was one of the biggest tracks over the last 5 years.

I just don't get it. If you open soundcloud, you'll find more than 1000000 tracks like this and more than 1000000 way WAY better. But this one is like "one of the biggest tracks in dance music over the past 5 years" whaaatt? I mean just look at this, there are 10 tracks inside the project, just really basic drums and bass, no melodies, no drive, no groove, no nothing. HOW? There are so many talented artists today, but none of them will ever have a chance to bring their music to a wider audience. I think the way how works the music industry today is totally wrong. Just find some right connections and you gonna be on top. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate this guy, he's lucky. But overall it's kind of a sad story.

Di. M. With Ben he was grafting around the Manchester seen and I remember this came out a good while before it was actually released! it has a catchy vocal hook and delivers on a dancefloor same with DZ-House every weekend. Sometimes it is just a simple idea which is implemented in a way which gets an audiences response.

Di. M. Yeah I always disliked this tune for the same reason, it's basically all vocal. And the vocal isn't even original, the track must have been thrown together in an hour. I was gobsmacked at how big the tune got considering the overall quality of the production. But it's a great example of the fact you dont need much going on to create a 'hit'. But I've always felt that using a massive cheesy vocal is a cop out. Still, gotta respect the lad, he made a career from this, crazy.
@TjMoon91

Di. M. I think it just goes to show how effective simplicity can be. Obviously you have to have the right people behind you to have this kind of success, but that isn't the reason this track is so popular. There's something about it that connects with people. If I ever put it on around a group of mates, someone (who hadn't heard it before) would always ask what the track was, or comment on it. Sure, it's simple. But it works.

loads of people slating but it moves the dancefloor. who gives a fuck about how many tracks or what eq etc etc. just concentrate on your own thing and if its good you'll be sure to get some success even if its one of your local djs digging it and playing it out.

make sure you pose in front of a lot of equipment that you wont use , all the latest , make sure your laptop has a lot of stickers , that shows that you were at clubs and parties , but i highly doubt , any laptop would survive that many good parties as there are stickers there ...Make sure you are tattooed , not too much , but a few of them , here and there . I started , natural progression , transition, full time , licensing , joint venture ... my god , makes you wanna buy all these and start making music , but guess what , you will fail. At least he said its not an original laptop , confirming what i've said . And im not saying this with a smile on my face , its sad . Since im in that garbage too.

Ableton is a great software to mess around with in your underwear, or while jamming with other "musicians" live. But at the same time has created a number of cut & paste dj's calling themselves talented musicians. fuck that shit. You don't make the sounds, you just manipulate them.
