I'm not in ballet but I find these to be exceptionally informative. The logic works for ANY field (clinical and artistic), where a good foundation and breaking down the process to what is needed to support (voice, movement, singing, dance, speaking ...) is so important, as is the personal 'fitting' of the support to what the individual needs. Excellent channel and very pleasant, too. :)

I don’t know a ton about pointe shoes but for tap shoes, split soles are better for people who are more advanced. Typically, people start in full soles tap shoes because they provide more support. Split soles work well for people with flexible feet but it takes a lot more ankle strength in order to not hurt yourself. Split sole ballet shoes provide more articulation to the feet and are ideal for most dancers but especially those with high arches. I’d imagine it’s somewhat similar for pointe shoes except you don’t go en pointe until you have strong ankles and feet so I’m guessing you don’t have to wait to get split soles.

I think split soles are usually for dancers who have been en pointe for a while, are more advanced , or have really strong feet. I know split soles CAN break easier if you don’t lift out of your shoes well enough because it breaks the shank easier if all your weight is on them but if the dancer lifts well enough they usually tend to last longer especially with a heavier shank. I personally use Bloch split soles with the heaviest shank possible because I break any other shoes too fast lol. I like split soles because it really makes you focus on rolling through your shoes and lifting up. But a disadvantages that they are harder to role through.

Omg watching this video I realized that just like Petra's first shoes I dont think I was able to break into my first point shoes either. I had REALLY REALLY bad tendonitis injuries in both ankles and they would be swollen for hours on end everytime I would take off the shoes. It was so painful. Now I have chronic pain so still affects me today :( but I'm taking care of it now

I love the education for other fitters as well as young dancers so they don't have to learn through trial and error and pain and frustration 💕 this has quickly become one of my favorite channels

I dug out my first pair of shoes, Capezio Contempora, and they were size 1B! I remember all my other classmates getting their shoes and I had to wait for mine (for what felt like forever) because they had to be special ordered.

I'm curious if you ever fit gymnasts? Specifically artistic or rhythmic gymnasts. I've done artistic gymnastics for 14 years and have always admired the dance word, especially ballet. I know many gymnasts, myself included, have dabbled in ballet as it helps with our leg strength, flexibility, and movements. I don't aspire to dance en pointe but would love to try it. Do you think a gymnast with very basic experience in ballet and (I think) a workable amount of leg and foot strength (we do walk in relevé all the time) would be able to be fitted en pointe?

It’s absolutely possible. You can watch Hannah Martins channel: she was a really good rhythmic gymnast and competed for GB 🇬🇧 until she was like 16, then she changed to ballet. She graduated from Ballet school only two years later and is now at Birmingham Royal Ballet. She looks SOOO good on pointe!

You need to react to tiny pretty thing on netflix!!! Its really in accurate to how real ballet academies are but very accurate to how much dancers push themselves through the pain to be the best!

This will be my daughter, I swear. She is 10 years old and is in toddler size 12 shoes. She is in prepointe and the smallest they could get her is a 1 and she uses padding.

@@larissaestor3995 Yep. To add fuel to the fire, I have REALLY wide feet. The plus side about that is that they're pretty strong. The downside is that it is hard to find street shoes and pointe shoes. 😔

i have been doing ballet for 6 years now and at my dance school you have to be at least 13 to start pointe and I am 12 but one day I hope! and as of right now I am 71 pounds and REALLY skinny like REALLY skinny.

I need to replace my basic ballet shoes, I originally got fitted in Bloch but I don't know the size. I'm not sure whether to just buy several sizes from Bloch online, or wait until the ballet shop reopens in mid April and get properly fitted. Can you fit a basic shoe yourself? Love this video and the little squeak was everything!!!

Hey, so not sure if you will see this, but for just a basic ballet shoe, you should probably just order a few sizes from an online place. The dance stores also over charge. What street size are you and which style do you wear? Maybe I can help!!!

Yeah... ummm well, in the shoes size that you were in, was it really tight? I think on Amazon you can just look up that style and then you can get the next few sizes up or that size if it just worn out. But make sure it has free shipping

Russian Pointe „First Rubin“ is really good! It’s basically like a dead pointe shoe and it’s only good for bar work, I don‘t feel safe in center. But some girls in our studio started with these

Hi Josephine! I got my first pair of point shoes in October, and I am still dancing in the same pair. The shank is very hard, and I cannot bend the shoe. This is my first pair, so I don't really know what a pointe shoe is supposed to feel like. Ever since I started pointe, my left knee has started to have issues, could this be because of not having a bendable shank, or does the hard shank only cause problems in the ankle? If anybody has anything to tell me, I would love to hear. Thank you, love your videos!

Boy dancers in ballet are common! Shouldn’t have judgement, although I don’t know many male ballet dancers who go en pointe.

I take a demi point class and the teacher is great but the fittings not so much one of my friends cant get over her shoes and my other friend she weight 50 pounds do to medical condition and thay put her in a really hard shank and that was her first pair

i lusually love your videos but this one i had a hard time watching, the white background was jarring and obscrured the whole scene and it really isnt necessary that you both wear masks in a video, its an awful look and you can sound muffled.

The masks weren't necessary? We're in the middle of a pandemic, the masks were definitely necessary. I agree with the background it was a little hard to watch, but they sounded fine with the masks.
