tbh im pretty insecure about my feet bcs i have quite low arches but really all you gotta do is try a variety of pointe shoes and find the ones that suit ur feet best ! also you can improve i promise my arches used to be VERY bad and i use to sickle a lot but now i honestly feel kinda indifferent to them bcs i stretched them everyday. everyones feet are different but i reccomend u try Merlet diva pointe shoes they made my feet look v archy

I started ballet when I was 18 and made it to point. So did my classmates. It's definitely possible. Just keep working hard during class and work on your feet at home when you have some time and you'll be on pointes sooner than you think.

Josephine, you are SOOO RIGHT about following as many passions as you have because you don't know where life will take you [& what all you will do with your life.] I danced as a child until the teacher told me & my parents I was too fat to go en pointe (actually it was because I was born with club feet that weren't completely repaired & adult podiatrist said even if I had the 2nd surgery I had needed as an infant, my ankles would never been strong enough regardless of my weight) I then pursued music, actually did a few professional performances, & began auditioning to symphonies. I then realized it wasn't what I truly wanted to do with my life. BUT both dance & music are still reflected in my life. I've been told several times that I move very gracefully by college classmates & coworkers which floored me & I know comes from the years of dance as a young child. Also my legs are shockingly strong even though I'm now disabled because of a rare spine disease & 2 rare neurological disorders. This has made it possible to walk again after 3 years of being bedridden & multiple rounds of physical therapy. EVERYTHING YOU LEARN IS WORTH LEARNING & WILL IMPROVE YOUR LIFE IN SOME WAY SO DON'T GIVE UP JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN'T BECOME A PRO. ONLY SAY SEE YOU LATER TO IT SO YOU CAN CONCENTRATE ON A STRONGER PASSION IN YOUR LIFE BUT REVISIT PAST PASSIONS AS THEY ARE PART OF WHAT MADE YOU WHO YOU ARE!! [Sorry, I'm not screaming; I just wanted to emphasize this... ;) ]

That statement at the end is really powerful. I’m not a dancer I’m more of a mixed media artist but, that statement is true for passions and different mediums, elements follow you and you never truly know what your unique interests and skill sets will bring you

Waay off topic but I thought you would like to know: you helped me get my tall boots ( for riding Dressage horses) comfortable. I’ve bee watching you fit toe shoes for a year now, occasionally you have a dancer wear to toe cap ( a rubbery sleeve for their big toe). My right Dressage boot hasn’t been fitting quite right, pressing on the inside corner of my great toe. Dressage boots can cost over $ 1000.00 especially if you have odd shaped feet, ankles and calves. I ordered a toe cap and I was perfectly comfortable again. Thank you.

This was really cool bc we got to see bigger snapshot of the dancer's journey before this appointment, and her journey afterwards, that also connected to her foreseeable future. I would watch a reality show like this ! Im envisioning netflix or TLC...and it would be cool if ESPN started airing programs like this. But anyway, I think it would be a great show AND a new take on mainstream ballet media.

I graduated from High School last year, and this year I'm sitting my Diploma in Jazz Dance, and I'm still training in ballet and contemporary! Because ballet isn't the only style I train in, I have to wait until 2023 (I'll be 20 years old), to get my first pair of pointe shoes, which is a very late age to go en pointe, I'm aware. I plan on teaching dance and opening a studio as my career, and if I get en pointe, that'll be a huge accomplishment for me; but it isn't a necessity. No matter what, I'll still be getting my qualifications to teach dance in the future.

I'm going to start calling my feet faux wide. They're like boneless chicken when it comes to compression on pointe. I'm not sure if I'd ever want to wear a square box again in the future. Maybe it's cause my feet are big, so my platform is bigger in general, but I can't say I notice much of a boost with balancing. I think I balance better when my foot feels really secure and I can root into the ground without thinking about if I am sinking or if it hurts. Still very much a beginner on pointe, so maybe my feeling will change.

It's so sad that the dance world is still like this. We live healthy, long lives now. We have more insight into the science behind ballet, and can better mitigate injuries and increase performance. There is no reason to make people feel like their best years are behind them at 22 or that a 15 year old needs to drop out of school to train full time. I think experience can only add to artistry. Greater maturity and emotional development I think is also key to ending the abusive behavior that happens within companies as well...and the less generous side of me believes that is why the powers that be are so keen at getting children to commit to this path at the exclusion of their own personal development and support systems outside of the industry.
@shieldmaidenforchrist1310
@shieldmaidenforchrist1310 2 жыл бұрын
I totally agree. It's so sad that at the professional level, it's largely impossible for dancer athletes to respect their body's needs like rest when they something is over tired, and the result is accumulating so many injuries so quickly that they can't continue long. So many dancers who didn't go professional, or didn't stay professional very long are still able to enjoy dancing well late in life.

Sometimes even a lot of dancers are mocked for that when they’re just trying to pursue their faith and trying to pursue their religion in a calm and quiet way and when there is a huge clash between Catholic dancers and Muslim dancers I don’t feel that those dancers that don’t wear the same types of clothing that Muslims wear they are just nagging on them to not be Muslim anymore it’s really annoying for me because they’re trying to pursue dance as hard as they can and they’re trying to pursue Islam as hard as they can and trying to balance both things some people don’t understand that which is really sad 😓

Every school should be able to teach core academic skills while still allowing the students to have their own projects, be it dancing or environment engineering. Most countries can teach the core curriculum with only a part time schedule (in my country, we either study in the morning or in the afternoon and full time schools are just for the kids whose parents have to work and don't have anyone to take care of them). I am not against full time school, but I'm against it being packed with really heavy subject that won't really develop any skills or be important for the child's future and still demand a lot of homework apart from the 8 hour-long school day (I am an adult who works for 8 hours a day and I refuse to do any work out of my contract hours and I don't understand why this would be different to children) when instead they could shrink the curriculum and make some times for students to work on their own projects. They would probably even learn more about other subjects as well. I learned a lot more about physics in the ballet studio than in school and that's because I was using relatable knowledge to build new ones. I hope this broken system changes faster because we've been teaching and learning inefficiently for too long now.
