2 main reasons -Stadium Colosseun XD and BR were made by Genius Sonority, a 2nd party publisher that works alongside Gamefreak for spinoffs, not main games. I would love to see a main game with GS animations but it's not possible -The animations like fainting or specific attacks like kicks and scratches were simplified to make the game move quickier, but sadly that makes the game look lifeless It's a shame because Genius Sonority really made it with all these animations, I hope they return some day to make a new 3D Pokémon spinoff ♡

I think the reason it's "harder" in modern games is because there's so many Pokémon combined with a time crunch, and their standards for "good graphics" have risen a lot too.

Well... its that or many people complaing about how the animation takes too long, especially when it is on the mainline game where the battle have to go smoothly and not have to wait 5 sec just to change mons.

@@Linkaro2 Well, that might be an issue, but casually people don't really care how long the battles are cuz there's no time limit, and competitively speaking long animations wouldn't be an issue if they were accounted on in the online timer, or the wireless timer anyway? Because, yeah, PBR animations take a bit too long, but uh, they could just speed them up too? They wouldn't even be an issue if there was no timer anyway

@Cousin Biddy the issue is they're always pressed for time with a small team for a large job that they don't try to hire more people for. this game has great animations because has no other major story or overworld to travel in. the mainline games have to do all that, which doesn't compensate for how small their team is.

@@Cousinbiddy1 Because The Pokemon Company has scheduled it so that the games release just before merchandise(plushies, figures etc etc) and the anime, thereby forcing Game Freak to work on atight schedule. The Legend of Zelda franchise doesn't have thisissue since it's not a cashcow like Pokemon, so they can afford longer development time.

@@Cousinbiddy1 Gamefreak obviously cares about the games too. They actually put some improvements into the graphics in Scarlet and Violet. It’s just a shame it took nearly two generations to even get there. The game’s advancements happen so slowly because they can’t stop pumping out a new installment every couple years. I stopped buying any mainline game since Sun and Moon.

Some of these animations are really, truly iconic. They go back to the N64 Stadium game or the Pokémon Colosseum days on GameCube. I remember seeing them way back when - nice work!

Many of the models are re-used from XD/Colosseum and even stadium. Most of the gen 3 models are ripped straight from XD, and while many of the gen 1 and 2 pokemon received enhancements to their models... Kangaskhan, Nidoking, Nidoqueen, Crobat, Suicune, and Bayleef are just the stadium models with little to no changes.

Sadly some animations are cut off too short, they are based on the pkmn stadium 1 and 2 animations and you can kinda see that the pkmn are still moving while they get called back to their pokeballs

Yeah, as much as i liked PBR the cut small bits of animations, and the fact it also doesn't have that really nice detail of the pokemon making a different thud sound depending on their weight when fainting, are one of the things i don't like, tho that's more of a Colosseum problem, cuz the animations are cut the same way there.

I used to play this game a lot and I loved it! If only there was a Battle Revolution 2 but with all the current Pokemon we have as well as more stages, a proper story mode and an extremely extensive character customisation along with actual voice acting, not just hearing the announcer all the time. I'd buy that in a heartbeat!

I miss this game, they need to reboot it...and let us copy our pokemon from pokemon home onto it. Some of the animations are so overly dramatic, that's why it's fun lol

Why can't Gamefreak defenders realize that this is the lvl of animations we want in a main Pokemon game. Fainting animations, move animations and of course that sweet sweet announcer

Pokémon main games are lazy honestly. If you really think about it, back then they were always one step behind from any game from their generation. When games were introducing 3D, Pokémon was still pixel art. And pixel art is fine, it's charming. Now they decided go full 3d, but they're still behind. It's probably gonna become the game it should be only after decades from now.

Is so annoying watching them take damage, return to their spot and then faint. The game should know that if the next attack will faint the pokémon to skip the damage animation and just faint it

While most of these are the same as Stadium/Colosseum, I did notice a few were changed. Psyduck no longer flips over onto his head, Magneton and Porygon don't fall apart anymore, and Jynx doesn't vanish into the Shadow Realm. Honestly, though, despite a chunk of these hailing from the 64 era, the animations hold up great! Why can't the newer games give their mons memorable movements like Metang's slow-mo faint, or Slowbro making sure it's okay with his shell that he collapses from exhaustion? Also props to the uploader. These must have taken a while to record!

It's quite funny that Pidgey and its evolutions fly so clumsily and then faint, falling to the ground, as if they were dripping on a banana peel.

Some losses are funny and some are sad. Having the 3D animations of the pokemon from the main games since the sixth generation, I guess that's why they no longer released pokemon battle games like Pokémon Battle Revolution, Pokémon Colosseum and Pokémon Stadium.

Thing is, it took them 8 years to animate 350 pokemon at this level. Each stadium game re-used the previous game's animations. Gamefreak has been doing 3D in-house since 2013 - 9 years, to animate 1000 pokemon. No wonder they're so simple. Of course, you have to wonder why they couldn't re-use these animations. Or hire a team 3 times the size, since they have the money for it.

The current 3D Pokédex has been outsourced and is developed continuously by "Pokémon CG Studio" from Creatures Inc. Game Freak creates the 2D concept art that they pass over to Creatures. First public glimpses of the Pokédex were in the 3D Pokédex app released for 3DS during the Black/White era in 2011, asset creation started in 2010. The team has comprised of around 22 full time CG artists, but has risen to 100 during peak periods with the help of contractors. Director Atsuko Ujiya previously stated she ideally would double the studios head count, lol. Can't imagine the scale of the work, I think the Pokémon themselves always look great but their animations can certainly lack character.

Also worth mentioning that alot of these animations are SUPER long. Each turn on battle revolution can take about 30 seconds, which adds up very quickly.

A lot of first, second gen Pokémon seem to use the animations they had for Pokémon stadium and stadium 2, which probably got reused for coliseum and XD, and then put into this game

Pokémon Battle Revolution was one of the peak moments of the series and, I'd dare say, the best moment for the first battle system as after it'll become too repetitive, besides the new third legendary powers which freshened it up vastly, but still I think the battle system deserved a change somewhere in there. Specifically, I'd like for the successor of Battle Revolution, Pokken, to be the new battle system in the main series. However only if they can portray the new third legendary power-ups efficiently enough. They already have megaevolutions and a super move that can basically become a Z-move, so it's certainly possible. The only problem I see, to be fair, is with Dynamax/Gigamax, but they can always play it up with new mechanisms.

I think its nice how most of their fainting animations is them WANTING to still fight... but just unable to. Like rather than the anime instantly fainting with X eyes
