The question is, can I beat a Pokemon Hardcore Nuzlocke challenge in Crystal version using only trash Pokemon? Well, it's a short question, but with a long answer, get some popcorn and a beverage and hope you enjoy!

Rules of the challenge:
Normal Nuzlocke Ruleset:
1. Fainting = Death
2. Can only catch the Type Pokémon on each Route (Species Clause)
3. Nickname Pokémon
Hardcore Nuzlocke Ruleset:
4. No items in battle (held items okay)
5. No leveling past the next gym leader/E4 (at the START of the battle)
6. Play on "Set" battle mode

Seeing a Kadabra grouped in with trash Pokémon kinda hurts my soul. To be truly trash, there should also be a limit on individual stats, too. 400 total with no individual stat over 100 would seem appropriate for a trashmon.

Small issue though, this bans pokémon like Onyx, for example, and you cannot argue that Onyx isn't trash. The 400 base stat total seems pretty good

The limit on individual stats should be primarily focused on attack and special attack being 100 or lower. The defenses on each specific pokemon in this bst range are usually never even that big of a deal, as the only defensive pokemon that can hit fairly well in gens 1-2 is geodude. If you then cut it to 399 and lower, I think it will make for at least some kind of challenge. Game lacks balance altogether though, you can tell this was an early installment. Around the time you get Abra, you get type coverage that holds up even through to gen 8, and it learns everything you'd ever need. Fire and Psychic alone handles 90% of obstacles, then you can run Thunder Punch and boom, everything until a damn microwave oven in gen 4 has been covered. I guess my point is, you really have to scrape the bottom of the barrel if you ever want gen 2 to be tough. Lance's Dnite army missing on Abra is his worst nightmare just because of a TM you found before you beat Whitney.

@@bigpoggers6507 * Onix, and even though it's Def is godly, all of it's other stats are absolute garbage. 35 HP, 45 Attack (Sunkern has more in fact), 30 SpA, and 45 SpD. In this Gen I'm pretty sure that it's Special stat is simply 30. It's only middling stat is Speed, which is only a 70. So yes, this pokemon is still absolute garbage even with the 400 BST.

You know what, I was wondering why still use halved power surf on Charizard when you definitely could use a super effective full power spark on it? I know spark is weaker than surf, but at least you would be able to two shot Charizard with it.

More than likely forgot spark was special in this Gen, since it was burned physical moves would have done even less and spark is physical in later gens.

It still saddens my soul that they did so little with the female Team Rocket executive. Look at Ariana's haircut. It's IDENTICAL to the rival's. That can't be a coincidence, right? She HAS to be his mom. And Giovanni is his dad. Why on EARTH did they not notice the chance for a super personal, heartbreaking motivation for this female character, involving a desperate mother trying to reunite a FAMILY? Her husband is lord knows where and her son is running amok, trying to become the strongest there is. So the Rival wants to prove himself to his dad, while Ariana is looking for her husband. They could have paralleled these stories together..! God... The amount of wasted potential in Gold/Silver/Crystal... GG on the run btw XD

Maybe she just turned around to Archer the moment Giovanni was gone. It's never implied that their marriage was a happy one anyways. She might just have been after power and money and that's why she has that strained and almost none existent relationship with Silver, too. I actually love it that the first two generations are giving you that much room to speculate on. A lot of the later once are far too tidy with too less space for your own speculations regarding the main story and it's characters.

@@RocketJo86 I never even got that Ariana and Archer were married o.o Also, if she had moved on from Giovanni, why is Team Rocket trying so hard to bring him back?? It just adds to Team Rocket's desperation for the past, instead of moving on to the future. As if Archer and Ariana KNEW they weren't as good as Giovanni and the only thing they could hope to be remembered for was bringing their former leader back. And even THAT failed in the end. It makes Team Rocket look pathetic in G/S/C. I do like your idea of that the story should be left open to interpretation... But at the same time, I personally do prefer a concise and clear storyline. And a story CAN be coherent, while at the same time, open to interpretation. And I feel that G/S/C's story is lacking in the coherency department.

@@potitishogun2961997 No, they aren't married. But given how Ariana comes along in the games it would not be surprising to me IF there was something going on. But then, yeah, it would not make much sense for Archer to bring Giovanni back. Point for you, I guess. Still I love the uncertainty surrounding the stories of Gen 1 and 2.

@@heinzdoofenshmirtz8643 The hack made by Jan. I'd argue it's harder thanks to the Game Corner being off-limits, locking a ton of great TMs out of the way. Not to mention the way encounters are placed, you have to get creative with Gym Leaders.

16:18 With Orpis' Pose and the Magnemites round form I couldn't help to imagine a Baseball-like Battle. The Magnemite charging onto our Cubone and the bone-wielding youth hitting them away. I would like to see more Trashlockes. How about doing it in the Gen4 Remakes due to the general fanbase opinion of these games?

I enjoy doing a non-nuzlock version of this in RSE, as there are lots of good pokemon with base stat total below 300 there. Pokemon like zigzagoon, ralts, lotad, and even Shedinja are pretty fun to play with.

Great video. That Format is fun to watch. Was hoping for pidgey to play a greater role in this video, then going down to a crit. I really like the Pokemon and its Evolution. Their sprite in that gen are still looking great.

Nuzlocks don't start until you get pokeballs. Don't restart if you lose to the rival. Also you can find a level 4 pigeoto just outside of palet town

That completely depends on how someone chooses to do the challenge. Some start it with the start of the game and some do it with getting Pokeballs.

Just a 400 base stat limit doesn't feel like enough to truly limit yourself to only trash pokemon. I think things like a good move pool can be just as if not more important.

He actually made the game with a few other creators. Called Pokemon garbage green. It's a rom hack with only Pokemon under a certain BST and modified map, trainers, gauntlets, no healing items, diff wild encounters. More than just a trash locke. You should do a few challenges with the game!!

So to all you people who think you can't win a Pokemon game without Golem or Alakazam, well, here you go, Gen 2 is busted enough so that you can win with an unevolved Graveler and Kadabra. ^_^ Shows that they can't be trash Pokemon if they do well. Even Aipom is good and when he evolves into Ambipom, he gets even more busted. Might try a crazy team like Ambipom and Probopass in Brilliant Diamond. :)

There's more to a Pokemon than just base stats. If they have stats in the right places and the movepool to back it up, then they can still be quite broken. The inverse can also be true to a point. If a Pokemon looks broken as sh!t on paper when looking at its stats but its movepool is ass then it can probably be called trash. I'd ban Kadabra from a run like this considering it's still better than many fully evolved Pokemon.

Vietnamese crystal nuzlocke run would be hilarious, but only for me, because Rest (Snorlax, Dewgong, Seel, Teddiursa, etc.), Spike Cannon (Omastar), Protect (various), Detect (various), and Disable (various) can all crash the game, forcing a reset. :)

i mean as a kid johto was so cool for the amount of content it has. but as an adult i see so many flaws in it. even in the remakes. Kanto got no love at all, and every change made it worse. the levelcurve is just bad. mostly because the open world after gym 4. linear is definitely the way to go there, unless the enemies scale (which would make gen 9 and onwards so replayable). johto definitely brought the worst new pokemon as a new gen. there is a reason why important trainers have more kanto than johto pokemon. and many more that are minor rather than major flaws.

I 100% agree with kanto and the level curve. I think the content added to heart gold and soul silver like battle frontier and rematch gym leaders helped but that they needed to make kanto harder or build on it a bit more. Maybe if they did a remake they could incorporate more of what happened in those three years like how they did with the Giovanni time quest or black and white 2

What is the base stat total cap for a gen 1 trashlocke?

Either a BST of 333 or you double the Special stat and make it still 400. If you do 333, you end up with some oddities like second stage starters being legal, but not Graveler.
