to the people who might be curious, the expression "Don't look a gifted horse on the mouth" comes from the fact that you can see how healthy a horse is by it's mouth, so by looking a gifted one in the mouth, you're trying to see if it's a healthy horse you're being gifted or if it's an unhealthy one, showing that you are only grateful if it's a healthy one

Ok so the gift horse mouth thing: you can usually tell how healthy a horse is by looking at its teeth. It doesnt tell you everything, but its a good litmus test. So "looking a gift horse in the mouth" is taking a gift and saying "well i dont know if this is good enpugh for me". The saying comes from ye olden days when giving horses as gifts was a thing people often did.
