I know this is an old video but I’m confused. At around the 25:00 mark his Gyarados takes 20 damage and he says “okay if it crits I take 60”. I thought crits were 2x, thus doubling the 20 to 40. Where is the other 20 damage coming from or am I wrong about the 2x multiplier from critting?

you only have 4 pokemon double battling in vgc and the level of offense is pretty top tier playing around crit (swapping almost costs tempo not good unless you have to) unfortunately not applicable as for rolls wolfey and all the other players make build sheets listing all the various builds their opponents can take with IV's and memorize them so they know the rolls pretty well because it helps them guess the nature and IV spread. unfortunately almost none of this content, while enjoyable, is applicable to VGC. even the mons themselves are very different from the base versions and their movesets are also different. what is applicable for team building in VGC is wolfey is learning to never underestimate a pokemon, which wolfey knows already because of all his I got x team or pokemon to no. 1.

I keep getting directed to showdown for calcs, but how do you know opponents stats? I haven't found that anywhere. Do you assume certain IVs?

Imagine implying he isn't a terrifying force of nature and no longer human after the 3 years of training he did on Mount Silver. Imagine implying Pokémon Master Red could canonically lose without holding back or throwing the match on purpose out of pity or kindness.

The more Nuzloke’s of watch, the more I respect Dustox. It can take a surprising amount of stuff, has really good resists, decent recovery and is a good abuser of Poison.
