I lost track of how many times I rewatched this movie back in the day. Its an amazing story that made Lucario one of my favorite Pokemon. What a blast from the past!

I feel bad for Mew, it literally had no bad intention in taking pikachu and meowth. It just wanted friends to play with.

Just internally screamed so loudly out of pure joy. This is legit one of my most favorite Pokémon movies

I'm almost positive that Mew isn't the only one of it's kind. In this movie they said "there's A Mew in this castle" not "Mew is in this castle" implying there is more than 1. Mew is the ancestor of all pokemon, like the amoeba that all other pokemon evolved from. That doesn't mean there is only one Mew. It is pretty much implied actually that there was most likely an abundance of Mew at one point before it slowly started going extinct, which is why it is considered so rare now.

Sometimes, I forget that Lucario is voiced by Sean Schemmel, who also voices Goku in Dragon Ball. Being a skilled fighting type and uses the Pokémon version of a Kamehameha (Aura Sphere), seems like a fitting role for Sean.

Fun Fact: if you reverse the syllables in Lucario's name, you get "oricalu" which is a reference to Orichalcum, a special metal in lots of fantasy stories.

Canonically the space inside of a Pokeball is considered to be comfortable for any Pokemon caught by it so it's either designed the procedurally generate a habitat for whatever Pokemon is in it or just a general terrarium any Pokemon would be okay with existing in when it doesn't have to eat It's also cannon that Pokemon can choose to enter and exit their Pokeballs pretty easily after the initial catching process So a good analogy would probably be a really comfortable apartment but the catch is that you always have to leave for food and your landlord "your trainer" can tell you when you should go outside and go back inside

James saving Chimecho is still the best moment of this movie.

IIRC, this movie is the first one that was confirmed to be canon, and it was through indirect means. Because in the Diamond and Pearl series, the fact that Ash can control Aura was not only mentioned, but shown on-screen during a two-part episode, and Ash being able to use Aura also became quite important in Journeys, too.

The funny thing is that because of Aura, Lucario knew that Team Rocket were in the Boot of the jeep the entire time.

I believe there is a theory that the Dittos were supposed to be failed Mew clones, which is why they can shapeshift and are a pinkish purple color

Finally. The Peak of all pokemon movies. I stand by it even now. It's so amazing. And it includes my favourite legendaries as a kid. Well, legendaries not named Rayquaza.

So aura in Pokémon is essentially a form of life energy. Ash just so happens to be really good at sensing and controlling aura. This fact is brought up a few times on the series but especially during the series pokemon journeys

Just as a heads up you guys (or maybe not, I don’t know if you’ve watched the next movie yet on Patreon), this is the last movie for the original cast of the Pokémon dub. Not too long after this movie, they had to switch over to an entirely new cast. I don’t want to start any sort of argument or debate over if they’re better or worse, but let’s just say it’s gonna be a serious adjustment for the next movie or two. Eventually, you get used to them. But trust me when I say that despite the changes, the movies won’t disappoint, especially when you get to Gens. 4 and 6.

Looking back, Sir Aaron is voiced by Jason Griffith, I never noticed. My boi Jason, I don't remember when this movie released but I'm sure he was still voicing Sonic and Shadow.

The fact that Lucario is voiced by Goku and Sir Arion is voiced by Sonic (4kids) baffles me to this day

I believe the next movie is the Pokemon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea. And out of all the Hoenn movies that one is my favorite

I was worried we wouldn't get this movie for a moment, it holds a special place in my heart really. Lucario was badass on its own, but the incorporation of Aura as a plot element is something that they also brought into the anime for the DP series, this movie also made the regular 'next gen pokémon cameo' trope into one where the new Pokémon entered the forefront. And Lucario is an awesome character, not just because of his willingness to throw hands with Ash at the drop of a hat but because it has a clear and reasonable arc leading up to a heroic sacrifice. Think I also like it given how Pokémon writers definitely watched Princess Mononoke before this XD Sir Aaron didn't invent Poké Balls just to be clear, he's just a cool dude, and his descendant shows up in the DP games and gives you an egg that hatches into the pre-evolution of Lucario. The fact that Mew is the only other Pokémon other than Ditto that knows Transform led to a big fan theory that Ditto were failed attempts to clone Mew. Some Pokémon do have accessories, I think some do have collars but usually it's the domestic pet kinda Pokémon. There was a Meowth dressed like a Musketeer in the AG series, and Ash's Squirtle had Kamina Sunglasses The anime and manga shows that the Pokémon are miniature and sit inside the Poké Ball until let out, not the most ideal scenario but it's not just a destroy and reprint.

This was always one of if not my absolute favorite pokemon movies especially bc I love the regi trio the noises they make I love. Lucario’s backstory was very sad. The tree of life was a very interesting setting and the involvement of mew was nice. The fact that pretty much everyone died with the white blood cells of the tree consuming everyone was pretty sad especially with Jessie she didn’t have a chance to let out seviper, dustox, and wobuffet. This movie made me and other ppl think that luxario was gonna be a mythical Pokémon since legendaries or mythicals are the focus of these movies. This movie was also introducing weavile, bonsly, and mime jr for the first time which is a gen 4 Pokémon same as lucario which also was a gen 4 Pokémon. I fuckin love the music for this movie too.

I was so excited to see this movie, just for the reaction to the Regi's. The Regirock scene is so cool just for the way that regirock enters and how absolutely terrifying its sound effects are.

New Pokémon movie when?

My head canon is ash's lucario is this one reborn.

While this movie wasn’t my introduction to Lucario, I can tell how many felt when they first revealed it. I first saw Lucario in Smash Brawl and wondered, “Is he a legendary Pokemon?” Second most popular Pokemon ever would be an understatement. This movie was awesome and around the end with the Regis in the cave, kinda scary, at least to me as a kid. (Also, I really liked Kidd Summers, even if she was just in this movie and had just Weavile)

If they think Mew is a troll, wait until they see the pokemon that trolled so much that god had to say "enough".

Lucario. One of the most popular Pokémon ever since their debut in this movie. Which is still a Gen 3 movie and Lucario is a Gen 4 Pokémon. Which a pattern you start to notice with movies is that when a new generation is coming up, they use one of their new Pokémon to hint at a new Generation. But I am so excited for when you get to the next movie, which houses the MOST LEGENDARY Pokémon, I would argue. Edit: my mistake. We’re 2 movies away from what I’m thinking of.

After this movie, Ash tends to have a few short moments throughout the anime's lifetime regarding his aura ability, specifically around more than one encounter with different Lucario (and it's pre-evolution) where they are able to sense each other and even have had shared dream like connections, I always thought it was a cool decision that they let him keep this power outside of the movie.

Definitely one of my favorite pokemon movies, I loved the whole medieval setting and Lucarios backstory. This movie definitely made him became one of my favorite pokemons of all time. And it was sad but also heartwarming to see even team rocket making sure their pokemons won't die with them.

Lucario and the Myster of Mew may not have the spectacle of previous movies, but it more than makes up for it in the story. It's no wonder Lucario became a fan favorite Pokemon. Since you guys covered the Mewtwo Returns special, will you be doing the Mastermind of Mirage Pokemon special next?

Awesome! Another great Pokemon movie. Just rewatched a bunch of them recently and fell in love with each of them even more. The Mew from this movie isn't the same as the one from the 1st movie btw. There are more than one of most legendary Pokemon.

This Pokémon movie is second favorite of the Gen 3 films. I enjoy the premise of Lucario (another Pokémon to be shown outside of its region), who feels betrayed by his longtime friend due to a misunderstanding, finds out the truth of why he was sealed away later on and makes the ultimate sacrifice the same way his friend did to save a tree and a kingdom. That is a very compelling story and what makes this movie a great one.

rewatching these movies made me realise how often Ash actually wants to physically fight. Him running into danger is kinda the norm, especially the more we watch. And I do largely remember him being a little shit at times. But I totally forgot that he was ready to dish out punches and kicks and full body shoves like it was nothing. This kid is an agent of chaos and i'm here for it.

Fun Fact (that nobody remembers): is that the Sir Aaron VA is the same one that voices Sonic the Hedgehog, Shadow the hedgehog and Cilan from Pokemon Black and White

Apparently the inside of Poke Balls, at least the modern ones, recreate a Pokemon's natural habitat. It's explained a bit in the more recent games that Pokemon possess the ability to change their sizes to become very small in order to fit inside of the Balls, and apparently can do so after fainting in the wild as a form of self-preservation (which we can see as Pokemon shrink as part of their fainting animations). It's also part of a theory I've seen about the Dynamax/Gigantamax phenomenon in Galar being a corruption of this ability, making the Pokemon massive instead.

Ash was extremely savage in the first few seasons of the anime, which shines through in some of the films. It's pretty great. The Regis are funny, I adore their cries in the film. As for the mew transformation comment, there's a widely accepted theory that Dittos were the failed clones of Mew before Mewtwo's success. Ditto and Mew are the only two 'mons that learn Transform, their shiny colors are the same, and in the original games Ditto are only found in and near the mansion where Mewtwo was made.

Canonically Mew should be the only one of its kind as it's the origin of all pokemon, containing all pokemon DNA. For other mythical and Legendary pokemon however, there can be many of them. They're just rare, that's why they are called Mythical and Legendary. So that's why many don't recognize Ash in future episodes / movies cause they're not the same one.

One of the best things about Pokemon is that even if you aren't a fan, you can find at least one Pokemon that you really like. Boom proved that with Munchlax and Metagross.

Before you set some things, lucario is not a legendary pokémon, is a common one. Lucario has the natural ability of see and manipulate aura, which is the inner energy any creature has in the pokémon world, including humans. There are some humans with strong auras, able to control them like lucario, in this movie two of those people are Sir Aaron and Ash.

8:00 the reason of that is because human are pokemon. It sound crazy but considering that in rl we are animal it makes sense they are pokemon. Its supported even by the fact that they used to marry eachother and have children plus the fact that some pokemon were human that turned into pokemon. Human are just pokemon that didnt find an affinity with a type yet. Even arceus didnt have a type but after defeating the titan he got their one through the plates.

With this, we have now only One Movie left for the Hoenn Region and then we’ll be onto Sinnoh. Also, by the way, no, that is a different Mew.

By far one of the best Pokemon movies since the classic First Movie in my opinion, I remember being legitimately sad when Ash was rushing out his goodbyes to his team and Lucatio sacrificing himself.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus actually only takes place about 150 years ago. It looks older because the place the region is based on is the large island of Northern Japan called Hokkaido, which was left alone until the Japanese colonized it (which involved fucking over the native Ainu people) during the 1800's in a manner similar to what happened with native Americans.

This movie and the Temple of the sea are tied for my favorites! Sooo happy to see more Pokemon!

My favorite Pokémon movie and not just because of Lucario. Also, does anyone have an idea on what kind of organism the Tree is? It has something like blood vessels, an immune system, crystal nerve synapses that reach out all over the kingdom, but it’s situated mostly within a rocky mountain structure.

There can't be only one Mew because the first movie had Mewtwo being clones off a Mew fossil. They're a species XD Also Legends Arceus is likely set during the 1800s as it's HEAVILY based on Meiji era Japan judging from the mix of western and japanese style clothes, buildings and the fact they're 'settling' Sinnoh (aka Hokaido, with the Diamond and Pearl clans representing the native Ainu people). Meaning officially in setting Pokeballs have only likely been used on mass around 200 years or so (that said there's clearly evidence of non standard pokeballs like the staff in this movie, several dozen 'ancient pokeballs' in the anime and the pokeball symbol itself is in ancient ruins and stuff so... IDK what to make of that beyond thinking 'well the Pokemon world DOES have multiple time travelling Celebi so anything is possible when it comes to 'when' they were first 'invented'). This movie really is: 'Normal day turned into life/death sequence by girl of the day and no one noticed' huh? XD I love it but Lucario's story still gets to me every time...
