Besides the original Pokémon Movie, this movie is actually my favorite. No real villains; just a little girl trying to cope with grief and loneliness and helped by the code of the Pokémon Multiverse to do so. Even today, this movie still gets to me.

And even though it disappeared from the world forever, do you know what that little meteor did? It lived happily ever after, In the joy it brought, and the hearts it touched, and the smiles it inspired in its final moments as a shooting star. So even with its last little itty bitty bit of life, It never, ever regretted what it had done, even once. So, make sure to smile for me too, okay? Even when mommy's gone... You understand why mommy has to go, right? I'm sure... You'll understand, my little meteorite... Please forgive me...

Whimsy combined with melancholy. This theme is very suitable for Molly: an imaginative little girl that suffers from chronic loneliness due to abandonment and is looking for escape. I think many of us who hurt have longed for drastic escapism like Molly did. I still have a fondness over this movie. It captured the "dreamscape" style in a very special way while wrapping it around very hard-hitting, real concepts.
@TheOneTrueD7 жыл бұрын
Even as an adult man, I have always found Molly Hale to be one of the most relatable fictional characters of all. Walking around in a massive glass prison, knowing that the people you love are out there somewhere, but never knowing exactly where, or how they feel, or even if they would recognize your face when they see you. Knowing that there are so many people in your vicinity who are surrounded by love's embrace every day, and feeling the powerlessness of not having it yourself. This character is a lot deeper and darker than one would immediately realize from a first impression.
@selenopheria4 жыл бұрын
Hi, 5 years late, I don't care. What on earth made you think she was abandoned? Her mom went missing, and Spencer spent his work looking for clues to her disappearance. Then he was gone and all Molly wanted wasn't to escape, but to have her family back. The world the Unown made wasn't so she could get away, it was a little girl's fanciful dreamland, the only place the parents she imagined could exist.

Now, so many years after actually understanding the theme in the movie, makes me realize that I saw myself in Molly.

This is still my favorite pokemon movie because the story was so emotionally charged, everyone had something to lose if the other gained, but ultimately, Molly made the biggest sacrifice by allowing Entei to go away and she was essentially saying good bye to the father she thought she lost, sure in the credits the father is back and she eventually gets her own tediursa pokemon and possibly a new stepmom, because we wanted her to have a happy ending she deserved it, if she didn't she would have been the most tragic character in pokemon to date...

Although I liked the Pokémon movies up until the Zoroark movie (13th movie), this one in particular was the heaviest themed. People unfairly label Molly ('Me' in Japanese) as entitled or bratty. But when you look at the premise of the film, it resembles how humans, no matter what age, can collapse into escapism or fantasy when life trauma accumulates and overwhelms the mind and emotions. Her world basically stopped knowing her parents were gone and that's represented with the crystal formations, which could've ended everyone's world had nobody done anything to help her. This is the one Pokémon movie that actually touches on depression, trauma, and mental escapism in a real way, so to speak.

I loved and I will always love this movie a lot 😍. I think this movie could as well be a define of art. The animation is beautiful, the soundrack is amazing, the voice actors are really getting into character (I have only watched this in Finnish) and you can really feel the emotions the characters are feeling. As someone who lost their mother at the young age, I can relate to the idea of keeping them forever. As a child I always wanted Pikachu and Vulpix as my pets and Charizard and Entei as my guardians.

An antagonist is someone who opposes the protagonist. They’re not always evil. Molly wanted a mom so she took the closest mother figure she could find, and that would be Ash’s mom. Ash didn’t want his mom taken away, and Molly didn’t want her only mother figure to be taken away either. They basically opposed each other.

I just want to say, though Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction is a personal favourite of mine, for my own reasons, Spell of the Unown in my opinion is without a doubt the best pokémon film to date. Where for once the featured legendary was not something totally overpowered like Mewtwo or Lugia, but rather a pokémon that Molly simply looked up to, while her emotional dysfunction shaped the rest of the story, instead of some poorly written 'bad guy'. Truly a masterpiece.

Solar Motion Studios They don't hold the emotional attachment anymore, look at this song for example, it is serene, beautiful, there is a hint of child like wonder. yet all this is foreshadowed by sadness and loss. Pokemon in the day told real life stories but hid them in a colourful wrapper. After all loss of family though many of us would hate to think about it happening at such a young age like Molly's it does happen. The lost of friendship in Pokemon the movie and the threat of the world as we know it, in Pokemon 2000. All the way up to Pokemon Genesect, possibly earlier I don't know have lost that magical, beautiful and most importantly emotional power that old movies had. Probably due to crappy new views. The music has a sort of Spirited Away-like feeling to it, which is what the Pokemon movies really should be. Pokemon is a magical world with elemental creatures that can be friendly, cute, dangerous, emotional, affectionate, destructive . . . all those things, not simply a series of powerful monsters thought up as the next coolest thing, then another. While the franchise may be that, the stories need to have a sense of otherwordly experience that delves into human connection and emotions. I think that, though the first and second movies could have done that better, they were at least good and had amazing music tied to the plot. The third movie was Pokemon at its height, a time I wish could come back. It was much too brief.
