Both Ninetails and Onix's Pokedex entries actually reference their lifespan, so many Pokemon probably just have long lifespans. There's also Pokedex entries referring to Pokemon hunting one another, Pachirisu stores nuts, and Pikachu roast berries with it's electricity. As far as the anime goes, they routinely show them stopping to eat, including the Pokemon sharing some sort of kibble-based diet. Brock also went in-depth about that a couple times, such as their visit to Professor Ivy where a Butterfree wouldn't eat.

I believe that wild pokemon die a lot faster than other pokemon. Unless a legendary etc. I think pokemon being stored in a pokeball slows down the aging process

My theory is they just live as long as they do and its different for each species just like animals in real life. Of course they eat and drink and sleep. The reason that isn't shown in games is because it is a GAME.

But proto!! That's a lot like my theory that people are in fact pokemon in the pokemon universe. That is why ash is pertually ten years old, it does not refer to his age but rather his evolutionary stage. He's in charmeleon stage and has not yet evolved to "adult" which he never will. Humans have three evolutionary stages, child, ten year old, and adult. This theory also explains why humans can get zapped by thunder attacks and burned by fire attacks and recover so quickly. Humans also have unstable DNA patterns which occsionally allow them to evolve into other pokemon, like the boy that turned into a kadabra. Using this theory it is my belief that ashes pikachu was once a human being, and that is why it has so much more personality than your average pokemon. Pokemon theories are fun.

Nice! That's an interesting theory. So if you die in the Pokemon world as a human, you could be born.. reincarnated.. as a Pokemon? For some reason, it makes me think of the mystery dungeon games, where you turn into a Pokemon to "save the world". What if the main player is actually a dead human, who got reincarnated as a Pokemon, and believes that they are still in a human body as they remember it? But that's kind of a stretch, and it would need some theoretical work.

They showed gustily turing into an actual animal to counter arbor. A little theory I have about Pokemon dying from attacks: I know I probably sound like a broken record at this point, but the League controls and regulates everything it can when it comes to Pokemon. The League decides what techniques and strategies can be used in an official battle, where the fights end at fainting. This is why at certain times a Trainer might complain about using dirty tricks even if they are perfectly "legal" moves: perhaps those moves were recently added to the official list of legal attacks. Pokemon battles between registered Trainers are not meant to end in death, and the League may even have put up regulations on HOW legal moves are performed (OHKO moves in particular). When a Pokemon fights outside of the boundaries of official League rules - in the wild, disobeying a trainer, or obeying a Trainer who wishes it - it can result in death. Part of being a gym leader may be limiting one's strength to a level that does not risk the lives of Pokemon used in a challenge, and thus you have gym leaders who seem to have much weaker Pokemon than most average Trainers (take Brock for example). Their "true" strength is revealed in things like the Fighting Dojo or World Tournament; they really were holding back before.

+Protomario I'm sorry if you read this already, but I have a theory about Pokemon too. Anyone else, please read my theory and critique me! Helioptile is a form of Rotom. Please stay with me. This is my first theory that I thought of on my own. If you don't believe that Shuppet can be a form of Rotom with a reaper cloth, then this might be a stretch for you. Helioptile and Heliolisk are both primarily electric, like all of Rotom's other forms, but in this case is a normal type for the secondary typing. Heliolisk's Pokedex entry states that "It stimulates its muscles with electricity, boosting the strength in its legs and enabling it to run 100 yards in five seconds." This is typically shown in movies like Frankenweenie or Frankenstein, when a dead organism is brought back to life by stimulating them with electricity. The same rule applies to how Helioptile and Heliolisk both need to generate electricity to continue to stay "alive" and is given by why they use solar power, as well as use Parabolic Charge to get their health back. But Orasorb? Does that mean that Helioptile and Heliolisk are dead? Yes comments section, that was what I was leading to. Rotom, was the electric stimulation that was put into a dead Pokemon, specifically a normal type. Now whether this pokemon exists or not, I don't know, but I do have my speculations. Eevee, which is adaptable to every location, is the best fit. It's body can survive in any environment because it can change its own DNA. But if it were to die in a desert, its body would decompose or get smaller and weaker like Helioptile's tiny body. And if a Rotom were to come along and stimulate this deceased Eevee, with its wacky DNA structure, Rotom and Eevee could create a new Pokemon from the dead. Similar to Banette and Shuppet, this is just the electric and normal version. Eevee usually needs a stone to evolve, which makes sense as to why Helioptile needs a Sun Stone to evolve. Eevee's diverse evolution chain also explains why Helioptile and Heliolisk's abilities allow them to prosper in various environments like the heat, rain, or even sandstorms. Eevee is 6.5 kg, while Helioptile is 6.0 kg, which would explain the decomposing or weakened Eevee losing weight, and then being tranformed into the agile Helioptile with the help of Rotom. Also, Helioptile, Heliolisk, and Rotom both have blue oval eyes, as well as turn red for their shiny versions. But that's just a theory, a GAME THEORY!!! Thank you for anyone that reads this. :)

Pokemon theory. Arcanine was originally meant to be a legendary Pokemon. His pokedex entry still calls him the legendary Pokemon. In one of the early episodes of the anime Ash points to an engraving of Arcanine, Articuno, Moltres and Zapdos to try to explain seeing Ho Oh to Professor Oak. Maybe when this episode was made they still envisioned Arcanine as a legendary Pokemon, but later dropped it and decided to add two related legendary psychic cats to go with the bird trio. However, they still retained the idea of a legendary beast but just saved it for the next generation and made three of them along with two more legendary birds, one for the bird trio and one for the beast trio, who was already fully envisioned since it was in the pilot episode of the anime. And then they went for another mythical psychic so Celebi came along!

Proto, I have a question. How long do you think Shiny Pokemon could've existed? Let me explain. I know that the original games were made on the Gameboy which didn't have much color. Yet in the anime, we have a pink Butterfree appear, which is clearly a Shiny Pokemon. I'm not sure if the game came first, or if the anime came first, or how much of a time gap between the games and the anime have when it comes to release dates. I do know they made games to promote the region the anime was currently in (I.e. Pokemon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum), but it makes you wonder. Was there originally coding for Shiny Pokemon in the first games, but due to the color limitations, it was excluded and replaced in Gold, Silver, and Crystal as a treat for the players? The anime almost never mentions timeframes, but there are times where they mention a year or so passing by within movies and episodes alike. Despite this, they still leave Ash at 10 years old. Why? (the first episode of the black and white series supports the ridiculousness that is time in the pokemon world) (the second generation games supports this theory if the johto/ kanto time correlation is applicable)

In episode A Shipful of Shivers EP095 Gastly and Haunter protect a trophy from a caption that lived 300 year ago. They are ghost-types, but it surely proves pokemon can live for long time. Other example would be arceus, but he is a legendary.

ohh do a theory on if pokemon can runaway from bad trainers. i think some pokemon did runaway in the anime, and of course, that can't happen in the game but it is pretty interesting to think about. since there's a happiness scale so there could possibly be a unhappy scale too. there have been pokemon that determined if their trainer was good enough to train them, dont you think there was some trainers that weren't good enough. just saying its interesting.

In the original pokedex entry for Ekans it states that Ekans swallows the eggs of Pidgey and Spearow whole. That's an early reference to Pokemon breeding and a disturbing proof of Pokemon killing and eating other Pokemon, in this case before they're born. But I'm sure Pokemon hunt and eat other living Pokemon too. I guess the Pokemon world is really similar to our animal world. Pokemon eat other Pokemon. People eat Pokemon, and some Pokemon probably eat people too. I loved the episode early in the anime where Ash and Team Rocket's Pokemon are lost together in the giant Pokemon land and they're speaking throughout the whole episode, their cries being translated underneath as if subtitled. They had lots of interesting conversations with each other but my favorite was how Ekans was shown to be a wise philosopher of sorts and Koffing was kind of retarded. For example Ekans said that no Pokemon are evil by nature, they will only do evil things if their masters are evil and command them to do so. But all Koffing could do was repeat the last two words of anything Ekans said
