I’m a 1350+ Masters Talonflame player and here’s a very strong combo I’d like to share. This combo is very strong in team fights especially when trying to take down an enemy goal. First you use Fly or Brave Bird to land behind the entire enemy team or behind their goal base, then Unite Move shove them all into your team. This combo works especially well with someone like Wigglytuff on your team so she can immediately Sing everybody afterward, usually end up wiping out the whole team. There’s also something that is not mentioned about the Fly+Flame Charge combo in this video. Fly’s move speed is influenced by Talonflame’s own movement speed, and since Flame Charge boosts Talonflame’s movement speed, using Fly afterwards will give you a longer travel distance. This is extremely good for stealing objectives especially when paired with a Fluffy Tail (you can use Fluffy Tail in the air when using Fly). The combo would be: hide in a bush nearby Zapdos/Dreadnaw but not too near to be easily scouted out, when they are at like 30% HP, Flame Charge out the bush then Fly above the objective, Fluffy Tail then easy steal. It’s a very cheesy playstyle but it works, I stole my way up through the Ultra Rank for free.

I personally like Flame Charge/Fly more for that extra mobility to move around the battlefield with relative ease. Aerial Ace is good though if you want to do more damage, but you have to lock on to a target to use it.

Flame Charge is *so* underrated. It’s literally an eject button on a 6.5 second cool down. It keeps you mobile. If you’re using Aerial Ace and running Fly, you’re asking to die when you commit unless you finish off the 1v1/team fight. You’re also chased down unless you can stall out until you have Fly ready. Talonflame is really objective based (Dred/Rotom/Zapdos) so you better be on them. You want to try to get to level 7 as soon as possible for the first Drednaw and be really conservative with your Fly/Brave Bird to seal and steal the objective for your team. No objective is secured with a Talonflame still alive even with the whole team down. Fly/Fluffy Tail is amazing at stealing objective as is Brave Bird’s burst range. Although Fluffy Tail/Brave Bird takes practice and timing is dependent on spacing. So you better get into training mode and learn the damage range to snipe the objectives. You’d also be surprised of the value of other items instead of Eject Button. X-Attack increases your burst damage KO range with either Flame Charge or Aerial Ace. X-Speed helps you stay mobile under many speed modifiers that would otherwise get you KO’d like Blastoise/Wiggs. Goal-Getter Talonflame isn’t bad either but more effective in solo queue. This bird has many things going for it. You just can’t really unga bunga without risking getting KO’d. You really have to stay mobile, stealthy and pick-n-choose your battles wisely.

I like that Brave Bird has recoil damage in Pokémin Unite. It's similar to Brave Bird in the mainline Pokémon games.

Just started playing pokemon unite. I really liked ranged attackers but i started playing talonflame and the speed+scorability changed the game for me. Thanks for the tips! I hadnt thought of using fly to escape yet. Genius

I'm a beginner Talonflame main and recently tried Fly + AA on my Talonflame, with score shield and float stone (I did not realize how useless it is, also I'm on trainer level 8 so only got 2 held item slots for now) in a ranked match and it worked nicely! I made a Machamp retreat often and ALSO took it down before it could. I managed to get that crown thing the player from each side with highest points for... I dunno what... get in the end of the match. And I could do that due to the tips and insight provided in many other useful guides, especially this video, so thanks!

Great tips with talonflame, as flash you can fluffy tail while being in fly so it's make it super easy to stole objective ^^

I love using talonflame, but as you said it is really easy to take down which kinda sucks when you get teamed up on and you can't escape. Either than that I really love everything else about talonflame.

I only started pokemon unite 2 days ago and honestly loving it so far, gave it a shot since i love mobas like smite paragon etc and seemed a little different taloflame seemed very much me unless there’s anyone better for Adc quick attacking champ

Talo was my starter and I still love playing him. Don't do it as much rn since I usually find myself as the default Attacker of my group, but I'm always down to play the fiery bird boi. :) Edit: I would also like to add that Talo makes a good scorer with its escape options. I like to run goal-getter and Score Shield on it for these reasons (though now I might be considering Buddy Shield).

i think x attack and fluffy tail should also be mentioned, both can be activated while flying. X attack allowes fly to hit absurdly hard, like we're talking koing squishy pokes from half like pikachu and gard. Fluffy tail makes it possibly the best objective stealer in the game.

I like flame charge/fly set to outsized opponents and close gaps or create gaps as necessary. Fly is also great for sneaking up on opponents without being noticed and flame charge/eject button work as great escape tools if shit hits the fan.

Talonflame was my starting choice and right away I could tell that he was designed as a hit and run character. Quickly swooping into battle like a hawk for a short 1v1 or picking off a weakened opponent before falling back.

Great guide! Just to add something, you can use Fluffy Tail when you're using Fly. I've taken so many Dreadnaws and Zapdos that way 😄

I feel like I am the only one using the Brave bird, Flame charge combo. I in my opinion with the Arial ace combo you run out of moves and become a sitting duck when you use everything and don’t kill. From my experience you need to take your time with Flame charge during a fight and weave in and out, always sticking close with your increased move speed. You don’t even need to engage with Brave bird, you can go in with Flame charge and use the increased damage for BB. And since you have two kinds of dashes Eject button isn’t really needed so you can go with full heal and block any hinderance for a short time. Timing this is key but if you pull it of, it catches pretty much everyone of guard.

What is the best held item combination for Talonflame? I'm using The barbell thing, then float stone and score shield.

I think Talonflame Flame charge + Fly is the easiest one to use. It's mobile, travel around the map fast and can't be touched while use Fly. Among the pokemons, I have trouble using Snorlax, Mamoswine and Crustle is good for me but Snorlax is so hard to use

Putting this at the top- TLDR: Muscle band & focus band bad; Attack Weight+Score Shield+Buddy Barrier as a trio is better. Bravebird is not a singular reset and has other mechanics. While I don't want to rip into everything, as a talonflame player a lot of this guide has good points but also has some errors. I appreciate what Teeds's is doing otherwise and do encourage you to keep it up Something that is missing from this guide is the mechanics of bravebird and aerial ace. It's not a singular reset. When you hit targets with bravebird, anything hit will have a set of eyes above them as a debuff. When you hit those target(s) with a boosted attack, you will consume one of the eyes debuffs and reset your aerial ace. Therefore, bravebird is very much in flavour with it's name. You need to be a brave bird and dive into multiple enemies at once or hit multiple things so you can aerial ace on landing, boosted auto, aerial ace, boosted auto, for as many available targets as you managed to hit with bravebird. I agree with flame charge being a deeply medium skill but it's best use is actually with fly. Since you gain a movement speed boost, and upgraded ignores defenses, your real use for it is to flame charge early, wait a moment, fly, drop down, boosted auto, flame charge back out. Item wise, Muscle band is actually not good on talonflame. You won't spend most of your time auto attacking because of how squishy you are and because you're choosing your engagements (and presumably hitting with your skills proper) your damage scaling from the muscle band's attack damage is not fantastic. Instead, opting for Score Shield and Attack Weight gives your damaging moves greater scaling and score shield has inherent early game strengths in hp and hp recovery by fast scores for fast attack weight stack ups. To put it in perspective, Aerial Ace is 95% (103% for AA+) scaling with your attack damage; bravebird is 230% and fly is 255% (both of which are always that scaling) meaning the more attack stat you stack up, the greater these skills, which are the bread and butter of your kit, are that much more powerful. Muscle Band's value comes from *auto attacking* high hp targets but as talonflame, you won't be attacking high hp targets in the first place. You're flying or bravebirding in on the back line or lower hp and following up with another move or a boosted auto attack. Hence, you gain very little from Muscle Band's passive effect since by the time you're actually autoing, your target (assuming you've hit your skills) should be very low where the muscle band's damage is outshone by just having flat damage. As a result, what you want is Attack Weight and Score Shield, where score shield + buddy barrier have inherent synergy with one another both in early game for having higher hp pool to *get* your scores, and in late where you can flame sweep to cover distance, get a score uninterrupted, and fly/bravebird out if an enemy were to try to contest after.
