This is generally true, but low pocket pairs are handle with care hands. Heads up, low pocket pairs are a draw against high suited connectors. If you are playing pocket 2s on the button, you still have a 12.5% chance of flopping a set (and as long as you win a little over 8x the bb with the set, and immediately fold without a set), you are profitable. You should not play low pocket pairs out of position though, and you should fold post flop if you miss the set on the flop and there is a lot of players in the hand or if there are a lot of overs on the flop.

Thank you for the video. Do you mind explaining why the chart shown at 15m isn't symmetrical? I.e. a 2-3 stands at either 35% or 39%, or a K-Q at 62% or 64%. Both differences strike me as big, as one plays thousands and thousands of hands over time.

This was great, thank you. I had a pair of 3’s o/s and went basically all in. It saved my life in late position. I ended up taking 2nd out of 9 people over a course of 4 hours I only played blinds for a few to get a feel for who was around me and also due to ugly cards. After sometime. I would flop suited connectors, sets, and straights. Within the evening It’s all about whole cards an positions, as well as players. More players, less chance and less players more chance.

Another thing to note, playing small pocket pairs like 22-66 give you implied odds meaning that you can hit trips and have a very disguised hand. Definately worth playing if the price is cheap enough. You will often get called often by high pocket pairs, or any two pair making you the favourite. Suited rag aces (A9s-) can hit top flush. They can also become bluffs/semi bluffs you can use so people call your bets when you do have good hands. Do not overvalue the dummy end of the straight. If you bet big and get raised often they'll have a better straight. Example, you have 98 and flop comes T J Q. They can easily have AK or K9 having you beat. Do not overvalue strong starting hands after a bad flop. For example, if you start with aces and the turn gives 4 of a suit with connected cards you do not have, you should check fold

Hey Dominic, thank you for the great video. I've a question about how to read it. I've noticed that if you go down then across the percentages are different for the same cards in a different order. As an example a down to Jack then across to 9 gets 57% however if you go across to Jack then down to 9 I get 55%. How should I be reading this chart?
@X23Natalie

If the % is above the pair line it's presumed that the cards are "suited" if they are below the pair line then it's the chance of winning when they're "off suit"

Great, fun introduction to poker hands, but at 15:06 what is that graph? Why does A-2 bottom left differ from A-2 top right and other same hands but swapped? I think it's also important to specify the amount of players this graph was based on, since a hand 2-3 being the best hand 35% of the time seems far-fetched, so I think the table was based on two players playing, which should have been mentioned. Interesting video, good quality, but needs references to graphs.

The main reason why I prefer playing 6 tables than 9 is because there is a high chance my cards hold up for a flush, straight and even sometimes full house. Most fish would get caught easily by this because they think their 2 pair will hold up most of the time, and then get raised by a full house/flush/straight.

player 2 is the winner with two pair 10s and Js with a K kicker, while player 1 has two pair 10s and Js with a 9 kicker. Beginners might think player 1 has 3 pairs (10s, 9s and Js) but 5 cards is the maximum for any poker hand so the strongest pairs take priority. Still, player 2 wins thanks to the king kicker.

I never understood how a hand like pocket 6s is considered to be so much better with less players I mean yeah it makes since that there's less people with hands to beat it but it's still 6s do the chances of 6s holding the river really get much higher just because there are 2 less people playing? Which leads me to ask how often to trips come up?
@stevenobrien3763
@stevenobrien3763 Жыл бұрын
The less people involved in a hand means it’s a less chance they will have something better. Also depends on what position they are as first to act (under the gun) should only really be raising first in with about 12%-15% of hands due to the fact that there are all the other players left to act the late positions are able to raise a lot more hands if everyone else before them have folded or just limped in (match the big blind) you only tend to flop trips is 1.5% but if you hold a pocket pair your chance of hitting a set on the flop is just over 11%.
@patrickgambill9326
@patrickgambill9326 Жыл бұрын
You expect to flop a set about 12.5% of the time. The pocket sixes are better with only one other person, since it is far more likely the other person will not have a pair. With more players, there are usually more possible card values to hit a pair. Any pair above a 6 will beat you unless you hit three of a kind or better
@malachi4838
@malachi4838 10 ай бұрын
with 2 less people playing thats potentially 4 more cards that cant come out in the community hand or you will almost certainly lose. its also possible one or both of them hold another 6 meaning its half as likely or impossible that you will see another 6 come out in the community hand. with 8 other cards being above a pair of 6's and only 4 being below it that makes additional players lower your chances of winning by a lot

how is a connected suited ace king a top tier starting hand, but a suited ace queen is only mid, when all the benefits apply, only they arent connected, but for them to work they still need the same 3 cards? is it only because a king is better than a queen? From how many people do you get these stats? Forget about %80. I highly doubt 2 aces will have a +%35 chance of winning on a table of 8

ONLINE IT IS VERY DIFFICULT WITH SHORT STACK WITH PEOPLE GOING ALL IN RIGHT FROM GET GO. YOU WAIT 10 ROUNDS YOU WILL RUN OUT OF STACK! MAY BE IN CASH GAMES YOU CAN WAIT FOREVER. BUT TOURNAMENTS YOU CANT WAIT FOR BEST HANDS. SURVIVAL OF REGISTRATION TIME ITSELF IS A NIGHTMARE!!! AND BOTH FORMATS ARE TOTALLY DIFFERENT ALONG WITH HEAD-ON!

A skilled player dosent only play “good hands” they play the player and play good spots. Your position at the table in regards to how close you are to the dealer button is as if not more important than the cards you hold, and you are absolutely gambling even if you’re only playing pocket pairs of face cards
