God I miss those days. I could live perpetually forever as a poker player from 2004 to around 2008-10 or so. Damn I miss those years.

Actually played poker with Ray Romano at Mirage in 2009. Great guy and got a nice 4 way chop.

It took me 6 years to save up enough money to get a seat at the WSOP. Never had so much money in all my life. $10,000 is a lot to me. In those 6 years of saving I read so many poker books, watched countless videos on KZfaq. Joined a bunch of theory boards. I took a week off work just in case I did good in the tournament. Show up, give my 10K. Take my seat. I didn't have any famous professionals at my table or anyone I knew from all the videos and books I read.. First hand of the WSOP its folded to me and I get pockets 10s on the button and raise, only the BB calls. Flop comes 7 10 3. I continuation bet, the BB calls. Turn comes off suit 5. I make a 55% pot bet, BB raises me, I call. River comes another 5. I check and the BB goes all in.. I take my time and try to figure out what he could have just calling my raise preflop and raising me on the turn. Pocket 7s? 3/5 suited? Missed flush draw? I couldn't see how I could fold top full house.. I call. He had pocket 5s.. First hand of the WSOP and I was out.. I think there's a video of it somewhere. But I haven't played poker since.

The TV shows always made Scotty Nguyen out to be a lovable character and a great guy. I always saw him as an awful person with a drink problem. When he won the HORSE title he showed his true colours.
