The Jay Martin Show

3 ай бұрын

Show host Jay Martin sits down with David Goldman, a seasoned geopolitical strategist and columnist. Together, they unpack the complex tapestry of global conflicts, delving into the nuances of each and their interconnected nature. From the enduring role of traditional warfare in today's world to the strategic maneuvers for control over global resources, the discussion cuts to the heart of current international power dynamics. They also explore the ever-evolving landscape of global hegemony, drawing on historical insights and projecting future trends. This episode is a must-watch for anyone interested in the intricate interplay of geopolitics and global markets, offering a deep dive into the pivotal forces shaping our world, in a style reminiscent of the analytical depth found in the Wall Street Journal.

There is constant talk about the US and China competing to be number one in the world. China is not competing to be number one if they are just focussed on developing their economy to improve the lives of their citizens. However, the US sees it as competing because they are trying to maintain being number one by focussing on subjugating other countries.

After watching this video, I think Goldman has good knowledge of China but I cannot belief that he refers to Peter Zaihan's propaganda. It is also untrue that China had claimed they can build 1,000 ships in a week. It is also untrue that China is bothered about America. China is an economic state and they cared only about commerce and about the livelihood of its citizen which is 1.4 billion. It is a mammoth task to take care of such a big population and they are still learning to solve their problems.

Similar to OP mis-hearing 1000 missiles to mean 1000 ships, OP also mis understood that Goldman was dismissing Zeihan’s oft-referenced cope of the “demographic timebomb”. He said that it is a problem that dictates a solution. And that the Chinese see the solution in increased productivity with increased automation.

Isn’t the portrayal of China seeing the US as a “existential threat” self-serving when it is the US that sees China as an existential threat? This whole idea that nations compete in a zero-sum way is just stupid. There is no need to look at the world this way, but doing so potentially becomes a self fulfilling perspective. Americans should get over their self-serving image of themselves as “exceptional” and let the Global South rise peacefully.

China's per capita GDP was $119 dollars in 1952, and the per capita GDP was 500 dollars in 1982. We used to suffer a lot, but now we can change our lives through our hands and improve the lives of our parents and children. In China, if you go to foreigners company, the income of companies is much higher. China doesn't care about international ranking, but we don't want to be bullied. In history, eight Western countries invaded us, causing us to cede the land and pay compensation. Originally, there was a king, but later the country was divided, and now Taiwan has not come back.

The West are still in the adolescent stage of their life span. Hence, they have to be what adolescents would do typically. Please try to see with their eyes - the world is their oyster, and they just can't resist the temptation of the folly of trying to rule the rest. The Mongols, Romans, and British, went through that stage of an Empire's lifespan. As a matter of fact, China was like that too, 2000+ years ago. But after numerous wars, they all matured into realizing that it is a fool's errand trying to rule the rest. Every empire in human history learned it the "hard" way. As historians adage says: "History taught us that humans never really learn from others' folly." Remember, one of Confucius analects says/wrote: "The young man always loses his privilege of being young when (or whilst) he was (then)."

The US and Europe just don't have the man power nor the capital resources to put in effect what they want to do. In capitalism, capital flows to where it's most efficient. The system the lives in, doesn't allow it to beat China. Let's say they can and are willing to do it. To modify mentality and education and attitude towards hard work and non cool jobs and long hours you need 30-50 years. In that time, China has to stand still and promise not to advance and the rest of the world needs to commit to staying weak and vulnerable to the west for the whole time. Add to that, the west needs to counter falling birth rates, social polarization towards immigration and possible unrest and economic down turns. NOT GONNA HAPPEN.

Talking about China, putting a big emphasize on military power comparison? Americans are obsessed with guns and violence. Grow up already!

Very informative and useful conversation. David Goldman is many levels above Peter Z who I stopped paying attention to as it seems to me he is not really a serious analyst but more of a promotional sensationalist that goes wherever the prevailing wind is blowing.

Each "China expert" is there to take care of his audience. He doesn't care about the facts, the number of viewers is what matters. Majority of them has never been to China, can't read or speak Chinese, they simply echo what they've heard or read, or they simply invent stories.

the best US can come up with was less than 50 votes at the UN, 1/4 of close to 200 countries. and don't forget, after a decade of "Pivot" US only managed to come up with is Quad, two existing allies plus India.

China can easily solve her demographic problem if she deems it necessary and the time is right, as there were many occasions in China's long history which they have done it after a severe reduction of population.

The trade war and technology war and propaganda war etc. will not result in a shooting war A shooting war is more destructive than anything. Taiwan can result in a shooting war. The only way to avoid it is for the US to stop supporting the idea of Taiwan can maintain the status of independent from Chinese sovereignty forever. As to armaments, I suggest you read the history of the beginning of the Second World War. In 1939, the US Army was rated below the army of Bulgaria. But the US was by far the biggest industrial power. That was the deciding factor. Germany had better tanks? The US Army had four times more, backup by five times more guns.
