Poland seeks extradition of Canada’s applauded Nazi veteran

Poland’s education minister has announced he has “taken steps” toward the possible extradition of Ukrainian Nazi veteran Yaroslav Hunka after the Canadian parliament accidentally honoured him.
It comes after the former Waffen SS soldier received a standing ovation in Canada’s House of Commons for fighting against Russia in World War Two.
The Polish official described Canada’s address during Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit as “scandalous”.
“I mean maybe we should be giving the Speaker of the House a medal,” Sky News host Caleb Bond said.
“He’s managed to smoke out the Nazi and now they’re going to take him back to Poland and give him his just desserts.”

Our Polish “friends” have always been bending their history. Facts: Proto-fascist Poland attacked Soviet Russia immediately after the First World War and annexed Belarusian and Ukrainian territories and slaughtered people in Ukraine in the following years. The Ukrainians took revenge on the Poles starting in 1939.

@@gavinhillick After the conclusion of the war, there were so many POW's some of which were part of units that had committed war crimes that the allies didnt know what to do with them. The POPE ended up giving his blessing to the remaining POW's and they were forgiven. At that point they were allowed to disperse around the world. Many German P:OW's were held in Canada as they couldnt escape back to Germany here. I know im missing a few bits of info but it happened something like that. So in fact there are ex Wermarcht and SS everywhere.

No one seems to be noticing or commenting that Volodymyr Zelensky was also enthusiastically applauding and pumping his fist in honor of the Waffen SS Nazi war veteran. And considering Zelensky is Jewish and so many Jews were murdered by the Nazis and Ukrainian collaborators during WWII, that leaves only two possibilities: Either Zelensky is clueless about the role of too many Ukrainians during the war and didn't know anything about this guy, OR he knows perfectly well considering he had family members murdered but can't afford politically to also apologize for cheering on the Nazi and risk losing a good portion of the Ukrainian population who still see this guy and those like him who served the Nazi war machine as heroes. And that means Putin has a point about Russia fighting Nazis in Ukraine even though that's Putin's own self-serving excuse for attacking Ukraine.

I hope they have al the information they need to have him extradited to Poland. I will bet the current Canada Government would do everything in their power to prevent him from being extradited. Mr. Hunka joined a German army and fought for the Germans in World War II. It's so ridiculous that Canadian parliament recognized him for that. And the Polish minister is ridiculous too, he wants to extradite a 98-year-old. His doctor is going to prohibit any long-distance travel on health grounds. My guess is, Mr. Hunka doesn't even remember all that well what he was doing almost 80 years ago.
