@@upturnedblousecollar5811 you're acting like they are on a trip in a forest with polar bears, they are protected, the child will not be harmed. instead of terrifying him at that age comforting him should be prioritized. I guarantee he will learn about his safety and how dangerous animals in the wild can be when he's more mature. kids watch bears being cute and cuddly on cartoons so it warps their perspective, but they will learn quickly that's fiction. I will not tell my child "the world is evil, animals are there to eat you, you're gonna die, life is meaningless" etc because they will learn that in the appropriate time. they should still be innocent and sheltered at that age for their development, as they grow up they will learn about the world.

People don't realize that many animals like to "play" with their food before eating it. They actually took a theory from the animal kingdom as to why they "play" with their food first and adopted it into Vampire movies where the blood and meat of a prey tastes better if the prey is in a highly frightened state. @@pooppoop2767 I think you are possibly missing a point that the comment and laugh from the apparent mother has ramifications as a matter of philosophy or personal policy of conduct out side of this specific time and location. The child could be influenced by this chain of events and attitudes to make bad decisions in other circumstanses in the future like the woman in Anchorage who many years ago went past barriers at the zoo and ended up almost being killed by the resident polar bear and wasn't because of the bravery of fellow zoo goers. She was an adult no less and a reasonable assumption is that a child would be even more susceptible to bad or unwise communications from trusted adults. There was also a lesser known incident where some younger gentlemen went completely inside the enclosure and at least one was grievously injured. A third incident was never reported to the general public that easily could have been fatal. A false sense of security could lead this child to make bad decisions with respect to endless hypothetical encounters with anything from a wild bear or elk to an aggressive domestic dog etc.. Also this arguably dismissive attitude is objectionable when it is multiplied by seemingly countless other individuals and other places and times. I imagine this mother is good to her son and thoughtful most of the time but an untruth is seldom a good choice when other options can achieve the same goal with less risk.

@@jbrown7063Ok, what would you have done if that were your 3 year old child (who's already freaked out), tell them the polar bear wanted him for lunch and he's lucky to be alive? He's a small child who's only encountering a polar bear because his mom took him to the zoo to have fun, it's not the time, place or age to be teaching him about how nature is trying to kill him ffs. What is it with everyone trying to be so edgy with these comments about the adults' survival instincts being slow, they're at a goddamn zoo, not on an Arctic expedition 😑.

I know the mother was probably trying to reassure her kid, but she would have been better off telling the kid that yes, the bear would have actually eaten them if we're it not for the protective glass. It's an important lesson in life.

The look on that poor kid's face. I'm sure there was some crying once the camera was turned off. Thank God for strong glass.

Yeah how come she doesn’t have ‘cartoon’ eyes and lashes. Maybe even a tiera.
